The Watchlist rankings, offering our top 10 player recommendations for the coming weeks, have today been updated to reflect recent form and forthcoming fixtures. You can soak them up now in the right-hand sidebar.

With both Manchester clubs still shredding through defences and budget back fours keeping sheets clean with regularity, we’re seeing template Fantasy squads created across the board. That trend might yet be disturbed by improved fixtures for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool however, and their Fantasy assets remain key factors in our Watchlist rankings.

Newcastle’s fine defensive form is hard to ignore and is reflected in the Watchlist immediately; Tim Krul making a small climb to the top of our keeper rankings. Available for 4.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game, the Dutch stopper rotates well with the prosperous Michel Vorm for the next few Gameweeks, offering a strong solution between the sticks.

West Brom’s Ben Foster and Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer are another partnership that appears to gel nicely, they also boast strong fixtures over the next month. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi also remains a viable budget option, with City’s Joe Hart the obvious route should you wish to invest heavily in a keeper. Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczęsny is arguably the most sensible selection for those taking a gamble on the Arsenal back four over their spell of favourable fixtures.

City’s Vincent Kompany and Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa remain our top selections amongst the defenders – fixtures fall in their favour and both seem to remain immune to the rotation going on around them. Newcastle’s back four is represented by Steven Taylor in our Watchlist, although Ryan Taylor arguably offers stronger short-term potential while Davide Santon remains troubled by injury. Danny Simpson is your cheap alternative, although he tends to offer little goal threat.

Fulham’s John Arne Riise and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique complete our Watchlist back five – both can be found in the mid-price bracket and have yet to deliver on their promise. Fixtures do fall more favourably for the pair however, and both possess attacking instincts from left-back which should see profits soon enough.

David Silva continues to look bomb-proof at the top of the midfielder rankings – seemingly untouchable within Roberto Mancini’s squad, the Spanish trickster has maintained returns and is just about to embark on a run of matches which should increase his output further.

Chelsea’s Juan Mata is perhaps Silva’s biggest pretender – like City, Andre Villa-Boas’ side have a favourable run of opponents to come and Mata, as the midfield creator, is lined up for some decent numbers. Right now, that earns him a higher ranking than Nani – our current preferred option in the Nani vs Ashley Young debate within the United ranks.

Shaun Wright-Phillips – the subject of today’s ICT Analysis article for Members – soars into our top five, with Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye also well-fancied over the coming weeks, having so far been denied Fantasy returns, despite some impressive displays. We’ve more on him and Juan Mata, to come in future articles.

The Forward rankings remain largely untouched. It’s impossible to topple Wayne Rooney from top spot right now – despite a run of opponents that will surely test his form and United’s goal-getting talents.

Sergio Aguero is sticking close to the United man, with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie in third with the fixture list offering him a platform that will surely see him begin to up his Fantasy returns. Luis Suarez holds in our top five, despite three consecutive blanks. We’re keeping the faith with Uruguayan ahead of a run of favourable Anfield clashes to come in the next six gameweeks.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Daniel Sturridge
and Leon Best are the big climbers and present worthy differentials going into the coming weeks. Adebayor has been a hugely popular transfer target of late and, of the three, has the proven pedigree. Daniel Sturridge, at just 6.5 in the FPL and with a strong schedule in front of him, is perhaps the most intriguing. We should see heightened interest in him if he can draw blood when Swansea visit the Bridge this weekend, although tonight’s start in the Carling Cup against Fulham will immediately put a question mark over his starting role for the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

John O'Shea - anyone got insights could share pls?
i.e worth 0.5 more than Brown?
    will play regularly?

There is no point in wasting 0.5 for John O'Shea over Brown. Brown will play just as much (probably every game), and do just as well.

Well he did a little but not enough to spend another 0.5 on him when it can be spent better elsewhere. And with Sunderland he is gonna have to be much more defensive.

Almost settled on my wildcard team, two midfield spots up for grabs, to sit alongside Silva, Mata and Dyer... would appreciate any opinions, especially if you've seen any of these options play recently.

I have 12.5m for any two of the following... (prices I can buy them at in brackets)

    Larsson (6.4), Barton (5.9), SWP (6.5), Murphy (6.0), Cabaye (6.0), Henderson (6.6), Petrov (5.7), Brunt (6.0).

I knew everyone would say SWP! Why am I not convinced by him? I guess because he's played in better teams before and never been that prolific. He seems a very wasteful player.

I'll have to try find some highlights of the last couple of QPR games to watch I guess, haven't seen much of him I have to admit.

I'm needing to choose one of that lot for this week (6.0 or less), unless I can be convinced that Sessegnon is better than all of them. Saw Cabaye on the weekend and he impressed me. Could've easily had a goal or two and took a lot of corners. Looking at chalkboards and stats, that seems to be a breakout game for him. Just don't like Joey Barton as a bloke so I can't bring myself to include him in my reckonings. He's just yellow/red cards waiting to happen. Would probably grab SWP if I had the funds for him.

      Silva Mata Cabaye SWP (Dyer)

Lovely team Jonny. Three Swansea players stands out as a worry, but I reckon that's pretty much how I'd line my team up if I was on a wildcard this week. Maybe Gabbidon over N.Taylor to give you a better spread of teams defensively.

Cheers mate. Gabbidon isn't a bad shout, I might go for that for diversifaction's sake. Was also thinking about Boyata, or even Lopez from Wigan but I don't know how secure either of their starting spots are. Plus they play for Bolton and Wigan.

I'm quite tempted by Larsson and also Brunt has some good fixtures coming up.... whichever I end up going with will probably end up injured/sent off the way things have been going so far! Cheers for the input.

Brunt scored a pen today for West Brom with both dorrans and odemwingine on the pitch. he's had a slight injury over the last 2 weeks but should be a mainstay (i think he is captain) and hog set pieces...

i like him for the next 5-6 weeks to chip in with 1-3 goals and 1-3 assists, a superb return for a 6M midfielder

ok, I have no trades to make this week

Currently have Nasri but could upgrade to Silva just for the sake of it

    Reasons For)
    - Everyone has Silva in my league and I'm top of the league, getting him in allows me to always stay ahead of them if he does well

    Reasons Against)
    - Waste of a trade potentially
    - Nasri could still outscore Silva
    - Everyone in my league is to worried about Rooney so they never captain Silva meaning I'm never really in that much trouble if he scores big

      Mata is a safer bet,
the thing is this week they play @ Home agasint Swansea, which could be the best fixture this year (However i do think Swansea will avoid ROCK BOTTOM due to their @ Home work) but, you might miss out on a big week for Chelsea

Mate i would totally trust doing the torres switch. I have firmly positioned him in my squad the same day i got back from old trafford last sunday, i could just see it in torres close up that his form has changed for the better, that miss wont dampen him in anyway, he scored, and he'll want another goal to eradicate the memory of that miss.

i have meireles, torres, and mata, and i have complete faith, torres is even getting the armband from me this weekend. If you have to do one or the other, i would do mata, but torres is too good at this moment to pass up the chance of him scoring big vs swansea, which he will do 🙂

      Thanks for all the advice.

Much as I yearn to bring in Torres (for his inevitable hatrick) I'll go with the majority view and do Moses > Mata, this week. Then next week I will have 7.5m for a decent third striker which is a better option than 6.5m looking for a decent midfielder if I did Long > Torres.

Also for me, Moses will drop in value before Long will and my midfield is weak at the moment - Nani, Silva, Moses, Dyer and Taarabt.

RMT. Have already done the transfer for this week. Wildcards not used as such!

    Given Al-Habsi
    Enrique Evans Brown Bosingwa (Simpson)
    Wright-Phillips Modric Silva Nani (Moses)
    Suarez Rooney (K.Davies)

    Have 0.00 in bank!!!!

    1. aguero scoring is troubling for me.
    2. K.Davies is a reg starter but not scorer. Also losing value.
    3. I believed a strong midfield to be the key for points.

As of now though I have been on target in selections. This week has me a bit messed with suarez getting only 1 pt and K.davies playing only 45 mins. Modric was my latest in for Yaya Toure!

Suggestions pls for next week. Should I use my wild card or not. Or shud i go in for single optimum transfers every week. In tht case too, i dont know how useful the wildcard will be.

The fact that Shane Ferguson is about to rise shows you that there are problems with the player valuations this year.
Too many people want to park 4.0 on someone who will never play because there are no other budget-mid range options that can be fit in to a squad.
Blanket statement: All the 6.5's should be 6.0, all the 6.0's should be 5.5 etc etc.....

It wouldn't make a difference if those players dropped by .5. If there's one mid that's .5m cheaper than everyone else, people will still buy him to cram as much money as possible in the other mids & forwards.
The more the merrier, let them buy him and waste part of their squads. Once injuries and postponements kick in they'll wish they had a real 15th squad member.

That article doesn't settle which one is #1 and which is #2 since Brunt was an injury doubt going into the Swansea match.
The fact that Brunt took them last season when Odemwingie was missing would suggest it is Brunt.

I reckon Blackburn have a lame goal in them. Probably a frustrating consolation from Rochina or Hoilett. Hence while I've got R Taylor and Simpson, I'm only playing one to minimize my risk and actually playing Jarvis away because I reckon he'll get me more than one point. Pool defence isn't ironclad, and Jarvis is Wolves' hub.

          Is Jarvis on pens?
Simpson full game, CS - 6 pts.
Jarvis full game, assist - 4 pts.

Whether he scores will swing it really, and I don't see him getting many goals from open play.

Liverpool's defence is suspect. I suppose if Wolves therefore have a chance of scoring, I can't imagine who else might score it. Doyle? Hunt? Jarvis does look as likely as any, if not the most.

I was tentatively picking Jarvis... and I think I'll stick with him, skeptically.

    Kenny
    RTaylor, Bosingwa, Enrique

Ditto to all the Arsenal stuff, let's not speak about the start to the season, you have to think surely the quality will shine through over 38 games. And I think we still have real quality there, possibly 3rd best first XI in Prem. Although its depressing to be reduced to saying that.

I think RVP is the standout player in a first XI which is finding their foot. Deadly, he just needs better service

ha yeah, FPL really gets in the way of enjoying football sometimes. I realized this when I was willing Roon to score against Chelsea last weekend and wincing when he missed the penalty.

It's going to be hilarious when Arsenal turn the corner and FPL cottons on. Arsenal players currently make up like half of the falling prices list.

I made a difficult decision to stay with Suarez/Dzeko when I could have 'downgraded' one to Ade and upgraded the other, because I want to give both one last chance. I would ditch Gary Cahill. Highly rated but in an awful defence so it's literally point-less unless he's scoring mad at the other end. 'Downgrade' to a cheaper CB in a better defence - Brown/Upson/even N Taylor. Then you'll have, what, 2.7 in bank which you can spend on upgrading a mid.

Is nobody else worried by the fact that SWP only made 15 passes in the whole Wolves game. 11 succesful. Only two succesful passes into the area, one of which was converted. Surely this isn't great cause for optimism.

Yeah, ruled out getting SWP just because I can't escape from my estimation of him over the I don't know how many years he's been playing - more pace than he can use, not sure about the passing. I don't think it's a coincidence that he gets squeezed out of any team going somewhere. I think the only team that will work for him is where he can play as a bog-standard winger, slam the crosses in. Maybe QPR is that team.

That's my exact position isacki. I can't find a decent extended highlights of any QPR games to make a decent assesment of him, but from the little I've seen even the one assist he has got was pretty damn flukey- smashed it into the ground, it bounced to Barton and he finished it.

Think I might get Seb Larsson a go... I actually rate him as a player, which seems to be a good starting point!

😯 Absolutely not. Everton have a very good record against City in recent years and will probably concede but may also score. If you have Baines you should play him, I think.
Liverpool were abject from the kick off against Spurs but should play better at home to an equally poor Wolves. Maybe Enrique is a better shout for a clean sheet but Baines could score more overall.
There are many better options than Murphy for the same price.

I have no doubts he is a good pick.
However i also have no doubts he wouldn't have scored (or maybe 1?) if Liverpool didn't get 2 sent off and most wouldn't have transferred him in this week.
If he doesnt score this week, and Dzeko goes crazy, Adebayor > Dzeko will be next weeks "number 1 transfer"
That's why I'm waiting on all strikers and sticking with Rooney, Suarez and Odemwingie until things become clearer

Mancini likes Dzeko, he perservered with him las season when the lad looked fairly ineffective and now he's actually playing well. It'll almost certainly be Aguero and Dzeko starting saturday but City have Bayern Munich midweek so I assume 1 or both will get subbed if things are comfortable.

It's difficult to really compare the two. Tevez isn't the fastest but he's strong as an ox and probably the more intelligent player and has more to his game. Aguero is much faster and although he probably doesn't have as much as an all-round game, he may fit the current City side better when he's surrounded by world class players - not like how Tevez had to do a lot of it himself last season since he was often played with Barry, Milner, De jong and Yaya in the same team.
They both brilliant finishers and brilliant forwards in general to say one is a class above the other just because one is in form and the other is out of favour is ludicrous.

They should have scored at least 4 goals vs United, but you know what happened lol...Idk though cause after that embarrassing performance, they're probably gonna come out on the pitch with a vengeance. Should be an interesting game. I'm going with Aguero though cause I'm about 15 points away from taking the lead in my league and I think Aguero could get some good points. He's great at home

Aguero simply because the position he plays seems to be getting him well over a goal a game, that's 4 extra points. Silva needs two assists for each of those goals. Tricky to do that.

Silva is very consistent and he's the hub of the midfield and will bring in some points week in and week out. I'm sure there will be times where Aguero doesn't find the net, but there is always a chance that Silva will provide an assist or even score himself. However, as a City fan I hope Aguero does score every game and Silva provides the assists 😀 He's my favorite player and I have both in my team. But like Scratch said, there are plenty of options for strikers. But, I'd say, if you don't have Silva in your team at this point, go Aguero. I've had Silva all season long and it's paid off

Yeah, there is the assumption that Aguero can average over a goal a game as he is now, which is madness. Over the long run Silva might prevail through assists, the odd goal, and bonus points (which will get better for him when Aguero isn't competing for them!).

I have Silva in my team already, just answered the question as if forced to choose. While I don't support Citeh I virtually worship the guy. Possibly my favourite player in the PL. Little genius.

right? I think he's so underrated. The national team is so croweded too. I didn't know anything about him really until he came to City and he's done so much for them. Made an impact his first season, and only going to get better.
