The main talking points in today’s round of games from a Fantasy perspective centre on Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres.

Rooney’s stunning start to the season has meant he’s been a captaincy favourite for many and even a testing trip to Stoke this evening would have undeterred many Fantasy managers from handing the United man the armband.

His exclusion from the Britannia clash due to a slight hamstring strain will, therefore, bring the vice captaincy rule into play for many and with a home match against Norwich next weekend, plenty will be sweating over his fitness.

Rooney is the top-owned player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game- he’s included in 50.2% of teams- but has already brought words of reassurance via his twitter stream, suggesting he should be fit for the midweek Champions League game against Basle:

Gutted I’m missing game today. Hopefully ok for Tuesday. Tough game v Stoke. Hopefully 3 points. Berba 1st goal I think.

To add to Sir Alex Ferguson’s worries, Javier Hernandez has limped out of the Stoke game within the first five minutes, meaning the champions are currently taking on Stoke with their Carling Cup strike pairing of and Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.

Over at Stamford Bridge, it was something of a case of déjà vu for Fernando Torres this afternoon at Stamford Bridge. Similar to last weekend in the 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford, the Spaniard grabbed a goal but it was what followed that will, once again, overshadow his contribution to the Chelsea cause.

Against Man United last Sunday, Torres’ brilliant clipped finish past compatriot David De Gea suggested a return to the El Nino of old but his subsequent open goal miss was the one abiding memory.

Today saw Torres grab the Blues opener and set about Swansea with an impressive relish until his enthusiasm got the better of him. A rash two-footed challenge on Swansea’s Mark Gower means Torres will miss Chelsea’s next three games, just as he was beginning to silence the doubters.

With the fourth round of the Carling Cup commencing in the week beginning 24th October, Torres’ ban will be restricted to league fixtures, leaving him sidelined for (bol, EVE, qpr).

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Ditching Mata for Nani too kneejerky? Mata has done well bit worried he was sacrificed early today though - is he going to be rotated now? If not I think I'll keep the faith in him against the pourus (sp?) Bolton defence.

      am pondering the same question I dont think he will be prone to rotation. My plan was to work my way to the funds for Nani over next couple of weeks but now......

      Nani still has Valencia to contend with then he's not needed at RB.

      However... interesting that Nani and Young switched. Maybe Fergie thinking of rotating Young and Valencia instead?

        Hmm this is true. Matas direct set pieces could be given to Drogba though which worries me. Alternatively he could benefit from assists via aiming at big Drog.

          I need to see more of Mata before bringing him in.

          I was going to do Walcott > Mata but Walcott at least assisted today.

      Both good players that will score well this season. I am viewing Mata in the long-term. He may have come off today, as the game was won and saving him for CL mid-week? not sure

      I think it's porous. Maybe just use a different word if you dont know how it's spelt. Leaky maybe

    I'm doing my transfers now spending 20 points

    Best->Ba
    NZog->Ramires
    Rooney->Balotelli
    Arteta->Bale
    Moses->VDV
    Petrov->Milner
    Young->Nani

    I know you're all going to say it's a knee jerk, but I was going to do these transfers anyway. Honest. 😯

      Same situation I will probably wait as I can't afford a straight transfer anyway.

      I am going to have to do a 4 pointer to do it. Looking to upgrade Walcott too but can't work out how to raise the required 0.5. Any thoughts?

    Evening everyone. Just back from Wycombe, haven't even checked my points tally, but seeing Hoilett and Ba do well when they were in my team for just GW1 is painful. I'd been thinking about him this week with the return of Barfa and how he lacked sharpness. Totally unexpected.

    Oh, the quicker I can get Barfa in and Moses out, the better. The MF prices are a joke, hence the Ferguson buys. Having said that, if Pardew stays with Best and Ba, Moses may remain the best option.

    It's going to be a long season.
