On the back of today’s draw at Stoke, reports suggest Wayne Rooney may be sidelined “for a few weeks“ according to quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Rooney’s is not a serious injury, but it was enough to keep him out today, and I think maybe for a few weeks.”

While we await further confirmation on the prognosis, the news will come as a bitter blow to the 50.1% of Fantasy managers that currently own the Man United striker. Rooney has been subject to nearly 350K transfers-in over the last four Gameweeks as he racks up the points with ridiculous ease and has rocketed in price to 12.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

With Norwich rolling up to Old Trafford, Rooney would be a nailed-on cert for captaincy in the showdown with Paul Lambert’s side and with Javier Hernandez also limping out of today’s Britannia clash, the likes of Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen will be vying for starting positions as Fergie’s side looking to get back to winning ways.

If the news is confirmed, many may turn to the likes of Robin Van Persie- the Arsenal skipper finally began to offer Fantasy returns this afternoon with a brace against Bolton and the 3 bonus points surely set to follow. With just 5.4% of owners, the Dutchman would be a viable “differential” and has a favourable run of fixtures ahead. As does 11.3 Sergio Aguero, though the Man City forward is already owned by 39.7% of Fantasy managers in comparison.

We will follow up on this as soon as we hear any more; hopefully the next twenty-four hours will offer further clarification.

My intention over the next couple of game weeks was to free up cash and add Nani to my midfield. After today am wondering if I should exchange Mata for Nani now and work my way back to Mata. Input appreciated.

I've got Nani in tonight. He's going to be useful at home to Norwich, Rooney or not.

No, for Walcott. He came off injured today and Nani's going up in price.

My thinking is that Nani, as last year, will give quality returns all year. I think Mata will yield good returns also once that team settles a little. My strategic thinking is that it will be easier to work back up to Mata's price. Am just doubting my thinking a little for some reason.

Bear on mind that Chelsea play Bolton next week. A team that conceded 5 against Utd and could of easily conceded more than 3 against Liverpool, City and Arsenal.

Had an ok Gameweek-50 points with Taarabt still to play.
Made a good choice doing Dzeko->Adebayor but captaining Ade instead of RVP was my only mistake.
Was surprised when Rooney didn't play, need to hear more on him first before i do anything...but with a CL game coming up, who do people think Fergie will play against Norwich?
I'm thinking Valencia will get gametime?
Fletcher will be nailed on imo
Though if Rooney is out aswell as Hernandez then it'll surely be Wellbeck, Berbatov/Owen...

I think Giggs, Valencia, Park, Carrick etc will all play home to Basel in the CL then back to Anderson, Nani, Young, Rooney, Hernandez for Norwich - unless Rooney IS injured then its as you said from Wellbeck, Berbatov/Owen

Van Persie is club capatain and they're best player, he will play for sure barring any injury.
The Man.City forward line is anyone's guess, but given Aguero's form i think he will play some part.
You'll be fine, good transfers and given Rooney is injured and Torres will be banned, they're the best replacements you could find 🙂

Cheers man, needed that reassurance, i agree, two of the best replacements to fill the void really, and the playing time for each player is also good to hear back.

i have a short term plan to be able to get rooney back anyway, its all good. Cheers 🙂

I hope he does cos I got him in my team!!
But it wouldn't surprise me if Mancini went with Tevez or Balotelli
On the other hand I'm certain Aguero will start in Germany but I also wouldn't be surprised if Mancini went with Tevez (if that makes any sense!!)

As starscreen said, Aguuero and RVP are the best strikers to have if you don't have Rooney.
Cross your fingers like the rest of us and home that Mancini doesnt start messing around with things too much 🙂

I really like Ba - I was waiting for Ba to start to see how he'd do cos he played really well for WH last season. Aguero, Ba and even Nani are slightly higher risk for rotation....

Option A has all definite starters and slightly better fixtures over the next 4.

I prefer Petrov to Brunt otherwise I'd go option A, but its close

The nightmare here is that if Rooney is out for several weeks, then most will have to sell him, then it's the worry of losing money on him/or not being able to buy him back again!

If people start selling then his price will fall, really fast cos he's in over 50% of teams
Looking at it this way, if you got him for 12.0 or 12.1 then you'll sell him for 12.2 or 12.3.
Price will fall from 12.5 to 12.3 (with a big offload) so only 0.1 to get him back...
Its worth it to have RVP/Aguero or whoever for the weeks that Rooneya out - its all about points at the end of the day. Anyway, if you bring in the right player for 2/3 weeks youll make 0.1 on him too so don't worry about it

not all contact is a foul. if i put my hand on your back you don't fall over. if i push you hard enough you do. or, if you wait for me to touch you then throw yourself to the floor then that works too.
i understand your views, i however disagree. he's a smart cookie hernandez but this time he didn't get the penalty and red card he was looking for

I can't see why he was 'looking for' a penalty when he was through on goal with the goalie and CB beaten.

But, even if you're right, even if he was looking for it, if a player goes through his back - it's a penalty.

But I'm just talking. Not trying to piss in any cornflakes or whine.

that's the one doubt i have over it all, woodgate ends up going to ground and makes no more than a tiny skim of contact on the ball. him going to ground makes it look like something imo.

the replay i really want to see is the young one. as they didn't make anything of it there was no replay. was just watching MOTD scrathcing my eyes wondering if i'd imagined what seemed like an obvious penalty

Well seen as RVP has a bad fixture away to spurs next week anyone that has Rooney and Aguero already is a bit stuck, I would keep rooney unless i was sure he was out for at least 2 gameweeks and even then the risk of selling him for 12.2 and then having buy him back for 12.5 is a bad move. I think barring some really long term injury rooney should be kept and is not worth selling him and then buying him back a few eeks later.

    Evening all.

So yet another relatively mediocre gameweek scratching around for a few paltry points here and there, desperately now left hoping for some bonus to top up my score which sadly I don't think there will be many of! I know it's still early days but this season is proving to be a real grind so far. I feel like a junkie in dire need of a fix, desperately craving the rush of a high scoring gameweek. Oh how I miss that feeling............

Anyhow, congrats to those who kept the faith with RVP, he has repaid you in style. Sold him this very week myself, which I always knew was a big risk but hey ho, gotta roll with the punches!

I'm waiting for more news on Rooney before i do anything but i'm thinking Rooney->Drogba
    Brunt->Valencia

Torres is banned, Sturridge returning from injury. Chelsea need a target man, which Anelka isn't.
    Valencia needs gametime....

I have something of a man crush on him I'm not going to lie...

Besides that, he was on my watchlist the minute he moved to Stoke, he will get goals for them and he will suit their style of play so well. A good run of fixtures to come for Stoke and Crouch looked very lively today. Going with the safe options hasn't done much for me so far this season, so I'm really tempted to give Crouchy a shot.

Reckon with a player like Crouch they will score more goals this year. Crouch quite clearly can score goals, his international record confirms that. Last season his game was a lot more about feeding VDV, but he's going to be the main man at Stoke, can see him getting more goals. Nearly had 2 tonight and looked very promising.

People who are taking out Rooney. I would do it but leave yourself a way of getting him back for the start of GW11 as their run of fixtures look fantastic.
This is probably what I will do and take a punt on someone else for the next 4 GW’s.

You have to factor in the transfer cost ie in the next four gameweeks two of your trnsfers will involve Rooney , all because he might miss one game, which he might well of been rested for anyway.
Besides . He has peformed well in the tough fixtures this season

Instead why not improve another area of your team and just bench him for a week?

I can't see him excelling in gameweeks 8-10 with liv, MANC and eve. I can see his price dropping to 12.2m this week which is the same price which I can sell him at.

+1. I don't really want to be wasting transfers shipping Rooney out and in again when we don't really know what the deal with his hamstring is yet.

The way I see it is most of us have gone for a pretty strong front 3 and I could probably get by with benching him for a week if necessary. It's far from ideal obviously as he would have been nailed on for the armband next week but unless we hear he's out for a substantial period of time (and bear in mind the 2 week international break) I'm just not sure it's worth it.

Also if you had him from the start and paid £12m for him, with his price now at £12.5m you can afford to wait until just before he drops in value to £12.3m before you'll lose money if you do choose to sell.

Your correct about the price drops. It is my plan to do it later in the week. I also have the wildcard set up for GW11 so I am thinking of getting a striker who is a differential within relation to the masses such as Drogba or RVP. Also if I bench Rooney I'll have to play Brunt/Moses so I think getting Nani will justify taking a hit.

Transfers are Nani and RVP for Walcott and Rooney.

Yeah Man U cover will still be essential you would think, I do have Nani also so I'm not too concerned. If I didn't I would be looking to get him or Young in and if I do sell Rooney I would probably go for RVP myself, despite having just sold him during my wildcard (hangs head in shame!)

Something just came to me and i dont know if people have thought about it before cause it's not been mentioned on this site and none of my pals have talked about it in the pub before.

Do people consider a Wildcard as a...
    a) one week charge including mainly home playing players plus subs considered for following week (as i have always tended ) or
    b) double gameweek must (another main reason) or
    c) ..n evenly considered selection of home and away players based on a 6-8 week plan of constantly decent scores (which ive never done).

A Tends to lead itself towards needing to make more transfers the following weeks which unless youve struck gold with the wildcard then ultimately appears to be a fruitless waste of a wildcard...

B Also tends to leave an unbalanced squad if youve doubled up alot

C Therefore seems to be the option in Feb when they offer the second 'wildcard' gameweek.

My thought process is still in its infancy...

True, but that's a lot of money to have on the bench. I've offloaded him for Adebayor. Rooney's 2 fixtures after Norwich aren't great (I know he could rip it up, but it's not like he'd be nailed on as captain if I had him).

I'll probably bring him back in a month.
