On the back of today’s draw at Stoke, reports suggest Wayne Rooney may be sidelined “for a few weeks“ according to quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Rooney’s is not a serious injury, but it was enough to keep him out today, and I think maybe for a few weeks.”

While we await further confirmation on the prognosis, the news will come as a bitter blow to the 50.1% of Fantasy managers that currently own the Man United striker. Rooney has been subject to nearly 350K transfers-in over the last four Gameweeks as he racks up the points with ridiculous ease and has rocketed in price to 12.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

With Norwich rolling up to Old Trafford, Rooney would be a nailed-on cert for captaincy in the showdown with Paul Lambert’s side and with Javier Hernandez also limping out of today’s Britannia clash, the likes of Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen will be vying for starting positions as Fergie’s side looking to get back to winning ways.

If the news is confirmed, many may turn to the likes of Robin Van Persie- the Arsenal skipper finally began to offer Fantasy returns this afternoon with a brace against Bolton and the 3 bonus points surely set to follow. With just 5.4% of owners, the Dutchman would be a viable “differential” and has a favourable run of fixtures ahead. As does 11.3 Sergio Aguero, though the Man City forward is already owned by 39.7% of Fantasy managers in comparison.

We will follow up on this as soon as we hear any more; hopefully the next twenty-four hours will offer further clarification.

    without Rooney and putting him on my bench...my team will look like this!

    Krul (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Enrique Kompany (Simpson, Briggs)
    Taarabt Brunt N.Dyer Arteta Silva
    Adebayor RVP (Rooney)

    Now that doesn't look quite so good!
    No Man.Utd coverage against Norwich...
    Maybe Rooney->Drogba
    Brunt->Valencia
    and not worry about losing .2 trading Rooney out?

      Rooney will probably drop 0.2 in price whilst injured.

      Worth downgrading Rooney to a cheaper striker so you can afford Brunt > Nani?

        Goo thinking mate.
        I'm worried by Nani's gametime so was thinking Valencia as he's not played all that much so far?
        Can just see Fergie resting a few players.
        Guess i could do Rooney->Welbeck
        then Brunt to Nani or Young...

          Rotation is perfectly possible, but with Rooney out against Norwich you'd have to assume SAF wouldn't rest Nani (!?)

          I'd be tempted to do what you suggest as a short term solution-Norwich at home-even without Rooney-is very juicy.

            Yeah i just think it's too good a fixture to not take advantage of, even if it means losing a bit of money on Rooney.
            I fancied Drogba as a good differential against Bolton aswell now that Torres is out and Sturridge is only just recovering form injury...can feel it in me bones!

        Thats a double gamble, that Rooney wont play and Valencia will....

        Too risky for me, Valencia will get his gametime V Basel I think.

        Wait and see who plays V Basel, if its Nani then you cud be on a winner

        If its Valencia then I'd reassess....

      Ahh, Mannioni, it was all going so well for a bit, yeah?

      Then a sub and some red mist ... and it all turned to poo.

      Still: It could have been a great move by you. Defo got the big balls. And +1 on the attitude.

          Yeah, it is a *game* after all. And it's not like my kids go hungry if I make the bad choices.

          It's nice to crunch stats and have 'your guys' come through - but nothing beats making a choice based on gut feeling/devil-may-care chutzpah and having it come good.

        Yes I want to wait until after the champions league games but Nani will be gone up .2 by then which seems like an awful waste.

    Am I the only one who considers suarez playing United as an easy fixture as they are not very solid defensively and Suarez did a number on their top defenders last year.

      No, I'm with you on that
      Suarez will relish the MS derby AND the United game
      After that he'll have Gerrard supplying passes and his fixtures are also better

      He seemed to favor his leg, went gently to ground, sat there a minute, then limped off with the trainers. I'd say he's out for two weeks or three years. Hope this helps. lol

    I can see why so many do points hits, exhiliarting feeling to be taking a 4pt hit on a Saturday night. Did 3 transfers (2 free) to get this team for next week:

    Given
    P.Jones Bosingwa S.Taylor (Brown J.Olsson)
    Nani(c) Mata Jarvis Sinclair (Moses)
    Adebayor RVP Suarez

    Now just gotta pray no injuries in the midweek games 😯

        To annoy you. 😛

        Catching price rises. Had exactly enough to do the following:

        Baines > Jones
        Brunt > Nani
        Dzeko > Adebayor

        It had to be done tonight or not at all. I'm gambling in my last week before WC.

            Nope he isn't due one in the short term, it's the fact that Jones and Nani are going up in price that is forcing me to move. The Dzeko > Ade transfer was purely to free up some funds to get in the United men.

    Well, sayonara gents, yet another stressful and eventful weekend for fpl, well, for me anyhow, but the season is still young, so dont worry people who are struggling for points, its a marathon, not a sprint. Night all, and good luck for teams who still got players to play tomorrow, hoping for a de laet hat trick myself! haha!

      Tell me about it Churchill. Just locked in this 4 pointer:

      Dzeko > Adebayor

      It had to be done tonight or not at all.

      It's a right pain.

      Move early & secure the players. Then hope they don't fall foul of injury.

      Move late & risk not being able to bring the player/s that you want.

      Decisions decisions.

    I've got 3 players, Young, Rooney and Dzeko, who I want to take out, but only one free trade. Any suggestions? My team is:
    Vorm, Krul
    Simpson, Bosingwa, Kompany, Ward, De Laet
    Young, Silva, Mata, Dyer, Moses
    Rooney, Dzeko, Adebayor

    I just realised I can make my team look rather good with all the trades I need to do. I think I'll prioritise it like this:
    1. Walcott->Nani
    2. Dzeko->Suarez
    3. Rooney->Aguero
    4. Baines->Boswingwa

    Or is that all a bunch of knee jerks?

        Bet no goalscorer if you fancy a 0-0. Same odds but covers in case of own goal which doesn't count in the no goalscorer bet.
