Not surprisingly, there are more reports on the Wayne Rooney injury surfacing this morning, following on from last night’s claims that the United striker would face several weeks on the sidelines.

United have themselves reported a direct quote from Alex Ferguson on the matter, stressing that Rooney’s setback is only a minor hamstring complaint…

“It’s difficult to say [how long Rooney will be out for]. It’s not a serious hamstring injury but I don’t think he’ll be available for next week. I think he’ll be out for more than a week.”

Ferguson’s comment suggests that Rooney will miss the Champions League tie with Basle on Tuesday, in addition to the home league clash with Norwich next weekend. That would be a major concern for Fantasy managers.

Rooney himself meanwhile, is more optimistic on his chances of making a quick recovery. He delivered his own prognosis via his official Twitter channel…

“Gutted I’m missing game today. Hopefully ok for Tuesday…”

Presumably more details on Rooney’s hamstring will surface on Monday, in preparation for the European tie. For now, there will be many Fantasy managers reserving their judgement and transfers, until more details are known.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Rooney played against Stoke, they would have targeted their tackles on him and he would have been injured. Ferguson was saving him and is now making out that he 'might, possibly, maybe' be injured. The words he's using are uncertain and indirect, which means he is lying and over-hyping it. He's not injured.

Wrong. He was not saving him for Stoke. If Rooney was fit, he would've started yesterday and we would've won

Rooney will miss the two easy games Basle and Norwich, then fergie can pull him out of the internationals too, so expect him back after wk 8

I am the worst captain picker in the world. Every season, 10 mins before deadline yesterday I swapped Suarez' captaincy to Mata. Idiot lol. Suarez will get 3 bp's too so that's plenty of points lost.

Fergie is clever; They dont need Roon next week vs Norwich (presumably the easiest game of their season) - and he will do everything to avoid letting Roon go and play for eng.

+1 Exactly. Rooney is key for the season. They don't need him for CL or Norwich. There was no way he was letting him get bashed around by Stoke. Either way, it looks like he won't play(Doesn't sound like Rooney's been told yet though!)

      This is exactly what i was thinking tbf. However... For rooney to miss the england games the player himself would have to agree to be part of th ruse no? Get feeling rooney would find it hard;

      A) to sit on the sidelines/not travel when perfectly fit
      B) keep his mouth shut aboutvit on twitter

Also talk of him actually being fit to play against stoke but being left out to make missing england duty more believeable is a bit far fetched. To be fair to fergie hevwould rarely take that bigbof a gamble with premiership pointsvat stake, in a tough game.

This one will run and run.

I don't believe he left him out of Stoke to make it more believable, that is ridiculous. But AVB and fergie were discussing Stoke a while ago. They are a tough team physically, and they would have caused Rooney an injury. Ferguson would not have risked this. I s'pose Rooney picked up a knock in training and it was over-hyped to Rooney. He was probably told to spend some time with his family(watching beyonce)

Thing is about VDV is he always seems to have an injury doubt surrounding him. There's also the possibility of playing on the wing instead of his usual 'in the hole' role. Pretty hard to call since there are quite a few good options in his price range but I'd say he could easily score big over the next few weeks and from GW9 onwards

Agreed about the injury cloud, but he played and scored FPL points regularly last year even with same cloud hovering over his head...

I see him as one of the most consistent players in the competition, if you look at his time on field vs points this season it shows to me that he's still got it.

Apart from the obvious being Hilario has to go and Lopez is shite which I will sort out shortly, what do you think?

    Given, Hilario
    Ward,Simpson,Bosingwa,Baines,,Lopez
    Silva.Nani,Faurlin,Gutierrez,Walters,
    Van Persie Agbonlahor Suarez

I just took a 4 point hit taking out Rooney to Agbon and finally getting rid of Ferguson to Nani.. I promised I wouldn't take a hit this season but pulled the trigger as I didn't want to wait around as price changes would have messed me up.

I still have my WC, was going to use it on the international break to make some money but now I think I'll keep it for double GW.. What do you think?

There is unlikely to be so much money made in the second international break unless there are some seriously big scores/injuries in GW7. The first break is always the cash cow, 2nd one usually disappointing.

You now have my 3 strikers, so I'm a little biased, but the kneejerk to Agbonlahor seems hasty - he may be the main striker today (no Heskey or Bent), but he's been thriving off the left, so i'm not sure he'll be as effective down the middle - we'll see.

I'm not a fan of Gutierrez, and though I can see the merit of Faurlin and Walters, I think there are better for their price.

Hilario and Lopez need to go as you say.

If Rooney is injured/missing this GW I'm going to take a 4pt hit and use the remaining funds to upgrade Jarvis.

    Jarvis > VDV?

I already have Adebayor but think those two will combine well throughout the season.

    Young, Silva, Barton, Jarvis, Dyer

could be well founded as long as the red flags are next to Defoe and Kranjar´s name. I may just go Nani for one week and make the easy transition to VDV, need to let them cement that link in Harry´s brain as well. He´s been known to dabble away my dreams...

Defoe was just ill, expect him back soon though perhaps not for the arsenal game unless Arry makes anothEr tactical blunder and attempts two upfront like he did against city.

they said dead leg...at best a bruised hip/thigh, he´s turning into a real rope-a-dope guy as well. I´m pretty sure SAF will not be in a hurry to put that same triumvirate out there again. He´s gotta hand Danny the keys after last night.

Do you think Dzeko will start the next League game? From what I seen he had a nightmare, and you have Aguero so why so adamant to keep Dzeko?

Spurs Arsenal games have produced some cracking games in the past, neither side can defend and have very attacking players. I think it will be a goal fest so would not advise getting rid of RVP.

I've kept the faith with Saurez and RVP the past three weeks and they finally gave me some points.

I'd keep Saurez in your team... It's up to you on Rooney, SAF could be talking BS, if not switch to Aguero / RVP.

I went Nani over Young but really was a toss of the coin

I think in all fairness SAF would be silly to risk him or Chico given that he has other forwards to use who are more than capable of turning over Norwich at O.T. An extra week for both of them to recover would be the sensible option imo.

Tempted to take Suarez out for either Berba or the Drog this week. Obviously it's a transfer that can wait until Saturday morning and is dependent on there being confirmation/strong indications that they will start.
