As you may have seen from our latest tweet, Sir Alex Ferguson has been speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League game with Basel.

In a report direct from the Man United website, Fergie has confirmed both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will both miss out in the home clash against the Swiss side, offering a chance for the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen in the starting XI tomorrow evening.

When asked for an update on Rooney’s hamstring injury, the United boss was fairly non-committal:

He’s not playing tomorrow. It can be difficult to assess a hamstring injury. Obviously we hope we have him back quickly. He did a bit of jogging this morning but that’s all. It’s difficult to say.

On Hernandez, there was more cause for optimism:

[Hernandez’s injury] is straightforward, it’s a dead leg he got on Saturday. He should be ready for next Saturday.

The quotes leave Fantasy managers still hedging their bets on Rooney’s availability for the Old Trafford showdown with Norwich on Saturday afternoon, then. Any further indication nearer the time will play a significant part in Fantasy transfers ahead of the weekend- given his recent barnstorming form, Rooney would undoubtedly be a nailed-on pick for captaincy but with an international break to follow, it’s impossible to second-guess the United boss right now.

With an away trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 7 followed by a derby with Man City the following weekend, Fergie will surely not take any risks with his star forward but right now, it’s clear he’s keeping his cards firmly to his chest.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I can see Rooney being on the bench for the Norwich game, and if Fergie thinks Berba is doing terrible(which is more than likely)then Rooney could play 20 minutes from of the bench and grab a goal if he's lucky. But he could suprise ua all and start, grab a hatrick a few assists,3 bonus points and get subbed off,so it's no points or loads of points.

Have got stuck with the falling Moses, Brunt and Hilario in my team for the simple reason I refuse to take 4 points hits. But in saying that I also hate losing any money!

    Hilario Vorm
P.Jones Bosingwa Warnock Simpson De Laet
    Silva Brunt Mata Moses Ndyer
    Rooney Suarez Ageuro

Have one free transfer and might take the 4 point hit to stop the others further falling! Any suggestions on who will fall next as the websites seem to by pretty crap for rises and falls.

Also any suggestions on what to do with rooney? I was thinking Drogbra/Welbeck/Chic/Ade?

      I'm keeping Moses.
If you look at the next gameweek ticker, Wigan have the best run of any team. Bench him next week and then play him every game until he returns.
      Definitely ditch Hilario - quickly.

The fixtures came relatively good for probably the first time this season. Patience paid off.

A touch of luck for those of us non-Rooney owners though. As a fan I wasn't happy watching the Stoke game as I felt United were lost without him. He really is a talisman and an excellent playmaker.

I did last night. He was my only ManU player. I had budgetary issues so I had to use my two free transfers before there were any price rises.

I swithced Rooney to Adebayor AND Sinclair to Nani

What are people thinking about Adebayor this weekend against Arsenal? Are there goals in this game or will it be tight and low scoring?

I think it would be strange to see Arsenal's defense grow a pair.

There are traditionally goals in this game:
      07/08 = 1-3
      08/09 = 0-0
      09/10 = 2-1
      10/11 = 3-3

Don't like those type of stats though, very little baring on recent events. The fact is that Spurs and Arsenal's frontlines have started to fire and Arsenal's defence in particular is shaky.

Sod's law would say Adebayor should score. I think in light of all of this he's a very decent prospect this weekend, not captaincy material but a good choice.

Depends on who your other forwards are really. If you have Dzeko and Rooney then you might need to ship one out to avoid ending up with a possible 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 if Dzeko doesn't start at B'Burn.

If I had Rooney already, I would definitely hold on to him for this weekend. This is one of the fixtures you really want him for, if he is involved in that game you'd rather have him than not.

Surely his points haul thus far should make more people think twice. Repay the lad with some patience.

What about for someone who's wildcarding after this GW, and we get pretty strong indications that he won't start vs Norwich.

Is it too bad to take a 1 week punt on Welbeck/Hernandez in the hope that Rooney drops in value enough to make the transfer worth it when buying him back

I got Rooney in at 12...he's up to 12.5 and I can sell him for 12.2 I reckon if he is indeed out for the norwich game that he will drop somewhere to around 12.3 by the end of the internaitonal break...when I may or may not get him back in.

What I can't afford is 12.5 of cash sitting on my bench...which is already crowded with genine bench fillers like Moses - simpson - Brunt etc .

they are way to fickle this year the rises and falls are ridiculous..If aguero doesn't score or assist for a game or two...he'll drop probably...then come back with a hattrick.. makes no sense this season.

If I wasn't wildcarding gw7-8 I'd probably hold onto Rooney ...but that international break gives me a nice safety net in taking a risk or two.

I believe there's no right or wrong move. He was falling pretty fast last night, but it's slowed down today.

I bought him at 12m and it is conceivable that he could drop to 12.2 by the end of the international break, if he doesn't play vs Norwich.

I think both you and Jonty have convinced me.

If you're wildcarding after GW7 it would probably make sense to get rid but even then it would be best to leave it until the last minute.

The problem is that the people who only got Rooney in at say 12.4 or 12.5 have less to lose and can logically get rid. It is those who have had him prior to all of his rises that have the most to lose by transferring him out and if both of you are seriously considering taking him out his price could plummet.

This may be an occassion when the transfers out and possible price drop will dictate your decision. Good luck, I don't envy this conundrum.

I've got him, but just don't think he'll play. Ferguson is a tricky trickster, but it sounds like Rooney is a bit crocked and he's looking to get him out of the international. I can't believe he's playing mindgames with Lambert and I also can't believe he will risk Rooney for Norwich. SAF is looking at Norwich as exactly the kind of game that he can afford not to play Rooney and let Nani, Young, and a choise of Berb/Hernan/Welbeck and Owen pick up the goals.

I'm holding fire at the moment, but due to my pants midfield and being a match away from wildcard I'm tempted by a Brunt-Rooney out for Nani - Ade/Suarez move.

this is a tough choice this week.

+1, as mentioned earlier you can't see SAF using mindgames for a Norwich game.

Really not sure what I will do, if I transfer him out I want someone who will be solid for 3 weeks... No one is standing out.

I just don't know if I buy the Fergie making this up to get him out of the international spin. There's obviously a niggly injury of sorts as you say but is Fergie exagerrating?

If Rooney is fit and he knows this himself I doubt he will allow Fergie to keep him out of those internationals which are kind of important 😛 . In fact I reckon Rooney is the type of player to demand to play against Norwich.

I remember Rooney had this kind of thing before...hamstring injury out of nowehere ...but that time it turned out he was angling for a new contract....This time it would appear he's genuinely crocked. Not training today would indicate that he will remain iffy.
My worse case scenario is transferring him out ...only for him to play against a puny Norwich side.

best case scenario is he is def out and nani - my inevitable replacement for him - runs riot.

    Just a mini-poll on Rooney (I know we have had alot of chat on him) but;
    A. Holding
    B. Selling
    C. Unsure
I am B, but am WC'ing soon enough so it doesn't worry me, especially as his replacement is Aguero...go!

      Sturridge - potential.

Wouldn't judge Bendtner until after tonight game - may play pants, may score a hat-trick.

Well I've traded out Rooney for Drogba.
Risky yes, but potential to pay off over the next 3 GW's - pretty high! Drogba loves Rebok stadium and Bolton are just giving goals away.

Spurs in form with 3 straight wins and 2 clean sheets in 3. Walcott potential hamstring injury though considered minor. Also did not start last away game (Arshavin was preferred) and between him, Arshavin and Gervinho there are only 2 starting spots.

Good old Venkys, October break - do they give the players a rest ahead of a long hard winter? No, they take the team on a pointless long haul to tour India in a vain attempt to convert the Man Utd and liverpool faithful!! 🙄
