Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez miss training this morning as Fergie hints at rotation for the Champions League match with Basel. Arsenal reportedly receive a boost over The Walcott’s fitness, while Harry Redknapp hints at his best starting XI. Roy Hodgson admits to weekend tactical blunders, while the injury worries mount up for Steve Kean before this weekend’s showdown with Man City. Here’s some Monday morning Scribbles folks:

Harry Redknapp’s post-match comments after Spurs 2-1 win were perhaps a little intriguing. Jermain Defoe missed out with a stomach bug, allowing a fit-again Rafael Van der Vaart to come back in the starting XI just behind Emmanuel Adebayor. With Luka Modric and Gareth Bale on the flanks and Sandro alongside Scott Parker in central midfield, Redknapp admitted:

We’ve got the makings of a really good side this season. The team I put out against Wigan is not far from my best. We’re very, very strong.

QPR extended their unbeaten run to three games after a late, late Richard Dunne own goal rescued a point for Neil Warnock’s team at Loftus Road. The home side dominated possession and fired off the most shots but were somewhat wasteful in front of goal- Warnock again kept faith in Jay Bothroyd but the misfiring frontman has still yet to break his scoring duck this season. Two yellow cards for Armand Traore means the left-back will miss next week’s game at Fulham and Warnock was nothing less than candid over the player’s actions:

I thought it was a disgrace. Not the referee, the player. I am going to fine him as much as I can. Total amateur Sunday league sending off. What Traore did, that’s not clever at all.

Alex McLeish had to make do without Darren Bent after a groin strain kept the striker sidelined. Barry Bannan started his third match in a row and grabbed the Villa opener from the penalty spot- the young Scot has now overtaken Charles N’Zogbia’s Fantasy haul for the season, though may struggle to hold down his place in the first tem when Emile Heskey returns from a hamstring problem. It’s a case of glass half-full or glass half-empty for Villa- yes, they still remain unbeaten after six games but on the other hand, just one win leaves them four points off the drop zone.

Steve Kean doesn’t have his injury worries to seek right now. With a rampant Man City due to visit Ewood Park next weekend, the Blackburn boss admitted he has worries over defensive trio Scott Dann, Gael Givet and Michel Salgado after the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle.

Roy Hodgson admits his tactics were at fault in the first half of the West Brom-Fulham game on Saturday. The Baggies played a 4-3-3 system Hodgson had trialed in the midweek Carling Cup clash with Everton before moving back to 4-4-2 but their managers was less than impressed with the performance:

It didn’t work particularly well and I didn’t even recognise some of the players in terms of the number of times we gave the ball away.

Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, has vowed to maintain his preferred passing game, regardless of the outcome. Swansea were seen off by ten-man Chelsea at the weekend and found the net in an away game for the first time this season in the 4-1 defeat but their manager stated:

We always try and keep the mentality of the players. They’re a fantastic group. They play a really brave way. We don’t thump the ball up the pitch, we try to create goals and score goals. In our first season we won’t be coming to Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal and defining how we end up. Our home games will be critical.

Ahead of Man United’s Champions League home game with Basel, Sir Alex Ferguson has been talking of giving some fringe players a run out. A draw in Benfica was, arguably, the most difficult tie of their group and with Fergie targeting ten points to see his side through to the knockout stages, he said:

Maybe I’ll use some of them against Basel. I do need to get all the squad moving. I think there will be changes on Tuesday.

Reports suggest Theo Walcott’s knee problem is nothing to concern Arsene Wenger. The winger limped out of the proceedings in the game with Bolton on Saturday but early indications suggest he may well be fit to start the midweek Champions League clash with Olympiakos.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

When will price protection kick in for Rooney? I've had him since the start of the season so can afford a 0.1 drop without any loss in reall value to him, but will have to sell if he goes down any further. Really want to keep him in because I think he's a keeper for the season but hate losing value in my team. Also, a 12M+ player on your bench for a few GWs is a big miss. What's everyone else doing? Twist or stick?

Here's my Rooneyless team for next GW:

    Given (Ruddy)
Enrique Richards Bosingwa (R Taylor De Laet)
Silva Nani Jarvis M Petrov (Dyer)
    Aguerro Adebayor (Rooney)

    Good enough team without Rooney?
Drogba and RVP look tempting replacements, with Torres out of the next 3.

I am going to hold tight and wait for news, even if there are slight fluctuations in price. I don't want to do anything rash that may make me lose out on my Rooney vs Norwich 20pointer.

Can also take a .1m fall without affecting value so hanging on for now. I he drops early or we get a worse prognosis I'll sell for RVP...... or Aguero.

I'm gonna twist. I've bought in Aguerro and Suarez. Fixtures aren't the best for Suarez but he's a world class striker. I can't justify keeping Rooney if he's out for a 'few weeks' as it'll weaken my bench.

Here's my team for GW7 all being well.
      Vorm (Ruddy)
Enrique, Richards, Bosingwa, (De Laet, Simpson)
Dyer, Mata, Young, Silva (V), (Moses)
      Aguero (C), Adebayor, Suarez

Just watched Arsenal - Bolton highlights. Pass to Song leading to goal definately re-directs slightly off Ramsays shin. What does the rule book say about this, is it indecisive?

      The rule book says:
"Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored"
So, I guess, the question is whether Ramsey made the touch or the ball touched Ramsey 😉

because he had co-ordinated well with torres and was majorly responsible for his form and now when torres is out for 3 games, he does not look a good option. Take him in maybe when torres is back.

Also, rooney is going to stay out for a week or two, so that will guarantee better returns from nani imo.

Can someone explain to me why loads of people seem to obsess over 'squad value' rather than total points??

Its ALL about points and making the BEST decisions with the money you HAVE.
How can you make the best decisions if you transfer people in on a Sunday and run the risk of injuries etc because of CL games but still make that change anyway in case they might rise by 0.1?

I mean, look at the overall leaders.
They hardly made any transfers all season, they couldnt care less about their squad values.
This is the case EVERY year....

The most expensive team does not get the most points every week. This is a fact.

I know there are those who love to gamble and thats a lot of the fun in this game.
But, as a philosophy, am I crazy or is anyone else in agreement?

But then youre playing to have more money rather than more points.
Doesnt make ANY sense to have the focus there.

If you focus totally on points and manage to pick the righ players isnt your squad value going to go up anyway???

Yeah, if you pick the wrong players your squad value goes down, thats obvious but surely the biggest consequence of picking the wrong players is that you have less POINTS

          Randomly PLACED capitals WITHIN post.

This game is about stacking the odds in your favour. More funds help provide a wider spectrum of available players and will generally mean that less hits are taken.

Ah, unfamiliarity with EMPHASIS within text, glad I could introduce you to it 🙂

So you think that the one transfer you make every week makes or breaks your team?

            I couldnt agree less.
A well timed transfer is brilliant when you do it, yes, but its the other ten players you've had all along who contribute more to your weekly points total. (95% of the time).

If the game was so simples as you keep saying, we'd all have 400+ points wouldnt we

Are you having a bad day?

I appreciate emphasis where it is used correctly.

You have come to a conclusion there about 'one transfer' each week which I had not mentioned as a be all and end all.

I am sorry if you are failing in this game, but there is nothing i can do about this. I have answered your question acurately.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I don't obsess over squad value but I will sometimes make an early transfer if a player I want is going to rise and the one I have is going to fall, or else I wouldn't be able to afford to do it.

The general consensus is that the first half of the season you build team value by taking a few early transfers here and there... maybe even taking a hit so you can get a riser and dump a dropper.

Second half you stop thinking about value and try to rise in the rankings with the help of the money advantage you've built first half.

Or at least this is how I played last year and ended up in top 200.

There's certainly something to be said for getting a decent team value early on, hence I usually wildcard early and will probably make my first pre-Friday transfer this week. Obviously money isn't the be all and end all but it is worth taking into consideration.

Cool to read the different opinions. It shows the different strategies and thinking that people have..
Maybe mine is flawed, the highest I've managed is top 2100 but thats a million miles from top 200 and top 45!!

I do consider team value important at the beginning of the season too but it just seems I value it to a much lesser extent than most.
If i think I have the right player for 5-8 weeks I just leave him in there, transgfers and value dont even come into the equation.
If I'm right he goes up in value and my points go up.
But as I said, maybe its not that simples....
I'll have to reasses my strategies over the coming weeks maybe

I will admit I am guilty of this myself but have been trying to get a better balance this season. Last season was my first season playing FPL and I transferred like crazy and ended losing 120+ points from hits. I did however have a tasty team value of 114M+ last season, but agree with you that it wasn't worth losing the points for. This season I am only going to take hits if absolutely necessary (ie because of injuries and/or suspensions), and never for a keeper or defender 🙂

Have to agree with JSL here. It drives me NUTS that people make early transfers and push all the prices up early but that's part of the game. If everyone else is being stupid then you have to take risks to make money. Everyone has to keep an eye on prices as a team worth 98m is going to struggle against the teams who got lucky in the earlier weeks and have a team that is worth 7m more and can afford players like aguero, rooney and suarez upfront and still have money to spend on the rest of the team. Oh, and I don't for a second think that if you ask the people at the top, they would say that they didn't care about their team value. And as far as "the most expensive players team does not get the most points every week" goes, you've got the wrong end of the stick, it tends to be the players who have the most upwards price change that get the most points, because it's directly linked to their FORM.

Bench Rooney for a week and base your transfers on a medium term plan, what's the weak link in your team? Where is the financial balance not quire right? Work out what needs to be done and plan so you aren't taking hits to do it. IMO.

I just managed to contact the people at FPL and they say they're sorry but the man who usually presses the Bonus Points button at random times on a Monday morning is ill today. Since no one else has had health and safety training to press the said button, they can only hope Alfred turns up to work tomorrow.

    In CL Fantasy:

Who by would you replace injured Rooney in coming round 2 ?

    I am thinking about:

    Gomis (vs Dinamo Z.)
    Cavani (vs Villarreal)
    RVP (vs Olympiacos)
    Villa (@ BATE)
    Ibra/Cassano (vs Plzen)

I believe these are players who have the biggest chances for scoring. Do you have some favourite ? Or maybe another suggestion ?

Besides Rooney, I have also C.Ronaldo and Hulk.

    Thanks for your voices.

the most I think about Gomis. He's in good form and Dinamo seems to be danger only at home matches.

Second thought was RVP as well..

Gomis plays Real twice in a row after the Dinamo game though. The way I'm playing is focusing on the fixtures up until week 4, after which I'll probably use my wildcard. Next three for each player:

          Gomis: DINAMO real REAL
          Cavani: VILLAREAL BAYERN bayern
          RVP: OLYMPIACOS marseille MARSEILLE
          Villa: bate PLZEN plzen
          Ibra/Cassano: PLZEN BATE bate

Not sure about the fitness of Ibrahimovic atm, and Villa is quite expensive. Only worry about RVP is that he could be subbed early in preparation for the NL derby on Sunday, if Arsenal are winning comfortably against Olympiacos.

actually, for now I am looking a forward just for this round. When Rooney will be fit again, I will get him back, and I believe it will happen before round 3 🙂

But your way of thinking might be good, in case of Rooney out for a longer time or Ferguson's rotation.

The early deadline for the CL fantasy this week is a little bit annoying. Bloody Russia and their funky time zones!

Longshot, but does anyone know anything about the fitness of Aurelien Chedjou? Is he going to be available for Lille's game in Trabzonspor? He hasn't played in any of their recent league games, including at the weekend, so I'm assuming not.

He's an excellent forward, a top goalscorer in the Russian League this season with 15 goals in 23 games. The only concern is that CSKA don't look so on form as they were in summer, just two wins in the last 8 games in the Russian League. And Inter just got a new coach, and their defense is quite solid.
I wouldn't expect much from him tonight, but a goal from him is possible in any game. I mean if CSKA score tonight, it's quite likely that Dumbia will be involved

chelsea had zero width or pace that game, 2 things man utd don't struggle for. in a way i wouldn't mind a dzeko injury v bayern munich as selling him before blackburn feels mental

"No Rooney, Chicharito, Smalling or Evans for #mufc v Basel. Chich should be back on Saturday. Vidic hopefully back after intl break."

That suggests Rooney WONT be fit for Sat. (but he probably will).

You'll probably have to get rid of him in three weeks time, though. And the fixtures aren't that good over the next three weeks. Two away games and Everton at home.

aguero is in top form but there'll be rotation risks...rvp is touch and miss...just because he scored a hat trick doesnt mean he's gonna do it every week..and hes way to overpriced...ur wish mate,

just change Mata for Nani or Young.

Bugger it. Rooney is gone. Not only may he not play this week leading to significant price drops but he also has tricky fixtures againsts mickey mouse and blue arabs...then a tricky away fixture at everton. Could be minimum returns...Surely there are better options?

Those 3 fixtures are a bit different to playing a depleated spurs and a ravaged arsenal team. Liverpool always play better vs. man utd and city will have them this time i reckon.

Casual players will bin Roopig for Aguero, or some for RVP.

Either way, i'll pick up Roonpig at 11.9 for GW11.

how long is Rooney out for? if its a hamstring are we talking 3-4 weeks at least?

I am sure that Price rise and falls have been pretty erratic. My team would have been Given,Enrique,Bosingwa,Kompany,Tiote,Ben Arfa,Silva,Young,Adebayor,Aguero,Rooney. Now will play Simpson(def) instead of Rooney.

Should I be thinking about replacing young with Nani? Nani has found form. What are peoples opinions on this?

I see no point of switching, besides cashing in. I think it would be a waste of a transfer unless you really need the cash.
