Sunday’s performance at old club Bolton bullets Daniel Sturridge up the new Watchlist rankings. We already had a keen eye on the winger’s weekend progress- Sturridge was on the bench for our Gameweek Seven Scout Selection Committee picks and returned our faith in his abilities with two goals, an assist and a couple of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in the 5-1 Reebok rout.

Suspended for the first three Gameweeks due to a straight red card picked up in his loan period under Owen Coyle last season, Sturridge grabbed a goal in his first appearance of the new campaign; an impudent back-heel helped Chelsea to a 2-1 win at Sunderland before he made way on the hour mark.

The following week at Old Trafford harvested just a couple of FPL points and when a knee injury, picked up in the Carling cup win over Fulham, sidelined him for the 4-1 home win over Swansea, Sturridge had fallen slightly off the Fantasy radar. When available, though, Andre Villas-Boas has started the forward in every league game and a return to full fitness allowed him a place back on the right of the Blues front three last Sunday afternoon.

Only last week, the Chelsea boss was talking up the player, confirming he sees Sturridge as a strong contender for the wide right spot, rather than a central role:

I am not sure how Daniel’s career will evolve but I think he has natural ability to play on the right flank. He offers me a little bit of the characteristics that I had with Hulk playing in that position last season when I was at Porto. We count him at the moment as a winger and he competes for that position with the others. He might play there but for this season we don’t plan to use Daniel in the striker position.

It’s 25 FPL points from three games, then, an average of 8.3 per game; the fourth-highest ratio so far this season, behind Wayne Rooney, Bobby Zamora and Sergio Aguero. With Villas-Boas clearly full of faith in the youngster’s abilities, his game time seems promising and priced at a mere 6.5, playing in a top-three team, his Fantasy prospects clearly look enticing.

Four home games and two favourable away trips in the next six Gameweeks (EVE, qpr, ARS, bla, LIV, WOL) looks a kind run of fixtures for Villas-Boas’ side and if Sturridge can maintain the displays that have seen him pick up more Fantasy points than any other Blues forward already, he could well prove to be integral to their Premier League fortunes, as Chelsea tuck in nicely behind both Manchester clubs at the top of the table.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

VdV really did get slammed by Harry...you boys were right, boss didn't take too keenly to his comments. Think he'll get the bench vs Newcastle? If so, start modric in his stead?? I was really counting on VdV for spurs cover in the midfield with new bandwagon prodigy Sturridge....Modric instead then?

It is slightly worrying, I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave alone the midfield of Spurs even though it was my intention of getting in VdV. I'm still not convinced that Modric can deliver consistent points like VdV could if he was on the pitch.

Yeah I don't want to put him in....maybe I'll wait to add Rafa until after the next gameweek...looks a tough fixture for Tottenham anyways.

If Newcastle can maintain their form (and there isn't any real reason why they shouldn't) then it could be a fairly low scoring match, it makes sense to hold off for a week. If VdV does get played on the right again then you can be fairly confident he will be played there week in week out and I'll be getting him in for Blackburn.

...on second thought, screw it. Who else would I put in the midfield anyway?? Ramsey maybe? Petrov? All the same gamble with VdV imo

It all depends on who you have in your midfield at the moment but - Mata/Nani/Young/Ramsey/Nasri/Silva or if you have faith he'll play frequently enough someone like Lampard. All seem equally reasonable options.

Also a gamble on Ramsey or Pretrov isn't quite the same gamble because you're backing them with much less money, money which could be spent elsewhere in your team.

I agree, and yes, I could very well save money and spend it someplace if i chose ramsey or petrov...but I'm so doubting of gunners and bolton that I'm not sure they'll do as well as we think they will, even in their favorable fixtures? I have Nani and Silva in the midfield already, dropped young a couple gameweeks ago because Nani and Young together was a bit too much...and I would get mata but I have sturridge up top, at least for another couple gameweeks. I would love to get Nasri, as he is 95 percent likely to star this week, but I'd have to drop Kompany or Aguero, and I'm pretty sure Aguero will be fine and Kompany is just too good of an invest to sell of now. Decisions, decisions...

VdV should learn to keep his trap shut. If he ends up on the bench then that is down to him. The Toon will be a touch fixture. Sturridge is being over-hyped - Bolton were utter sh1te the other day.

I was thinking about Adebayor but that really means quite a few changes.

        Would mean something like

        Given Ruddy
Bosingwa Woodgate Enrique (Simpson) (N Taylor)
        Mata Silva Walters Ramsey (Petrov)
        Suarez RVP Adebayor

Better you reckon? Was thinking maybe Cabaye instead of Ramsey...

I'm looking for the best coverage for Chelsea and Villa, please choose 1 for me.

A: Agbonlahor & Mata (currently have both already)

    or

B: Sturridge & Bannan (have neither but are alot cheaper options)

      A. I've got Sturridge in my team, but I think Agbonlahor will outscore him. Whilst I'm not too sure what the fuss is about Bannan, he may get the odd assist, and take penaltys when Bent isn't in the team.

"A" deffinitley saves me a few transfers and I do like Agbonlahor, I just hope his back doesnt keep him out of any games.

I dont know much about Bannan but the few games I've watched him play he's been amazing. I dont know if that will turn him into a fantasy gem but I think he is deffinitely the best AV midfield option at the moment and at 5.0, he is not a huge risk.

Of course but no one really gets injured players into their team if they're on here, also I wouldn't bet on 'pool breaking down United so even if Ade doesn't play it could only be the difference between 2 and 0 points.

You need some big hitters up front, man!

Get some Werthers in there and a Twix or Snickers in midfield.

Sherbert Lemons are the Boselli of Fantasy Confectionary League. Get rid and try again.

VDV should be careful what he wishes for.
No more on the wing for him , He now faces the bench instead , his fantasy appeal takes a massive hit imo, unless Defoe has a big dip in form then VDV wont be a regular starter

Dosent change the fact that he is a liability out wide, he just too slow. Only position he can play is the same one as Defoe is playing. Defoe looking back to his best , and dosent cause the manager as many headaches . Even if VDV gets the nod over Defoe he will still be rested often due to his proneness to injury

VdV is the best finisher we have though. He is a big-headed g1t and thinks he is the best player, but his ability in front of goal is without question. Defoe still doesn't look at his best to me and i think he has always been over-rated. VdV will still play a lot but yeah there is a big rotation threat now.

Yeah, those get quite annoying...when it's an issue between a couple players and couple positions, I'm more prone to answer or put in my two cents. When it's the whole "Here is my team, tell me what you think of it and if you don't like it then give me players who would be good instead." Dumb.

The site seems to be a little slower to load than earlier in the day. I've checked with our server provider and they've suggested that there is some general slowness in the London networks at the moment which may be contributing to slow performance on the site at the moment. I'll investigate further and let you know if I find out any more.

Browser issue maybe? I'm running the new Mozilla Firefox, I just reloaded all comments on the fast, appeared maybe two seconds after I hit the refresh button.

Hiya lads, just a couple of questions?

Anyone know the latest on cleverely? and do yo reckon he will play starting with liverpool after the international break?

Bannan, a very interesting player thats's emerged and seems to be nailed on with villa, a worthy investment at 5.0 over coming fixtures?

Zamora - im very tempted to bring him in over best, but is it worth it, best has tot (h) and wigan (h) and stoke (a), and zamora has stoke (a) eve (h) wigan (a), i had zamora in my team a lot last season and seemed to score no matter what happened lol.

Anyway, questions over, thoughts? help much appreciated 🙂

Should be fit after the international break, but i dont expect sir alex to throw him straight in from the start, away to Liverpool.

Bannan's a good investment yes, if he keeps his place. He's only 0.1 more than Moses and has already delivered a goal and assist.

Zamora is the better player, and has the better PPG this season. Seems to be getting into form at the right time. I think Ben arfa may eat into some of Best's game time after the break, so i'd go with Zamora.

I'm not a fan of Fulham, just hasn't done it for me. They can pull it together when they want to, but they have a dark side...maybe the run of favorable fixtures will get their act together though?

Banaan seems interesting, he is coming into form and he has been enjoying loads of playing time because of the Villa injuries, but I think he'll be a rotation risk...but for 5.0 and for Villa cover (they have several favorable fixtures coming up) he's worth a shot....I wanted him, not enough money though. Shoot.

Been wondering about cleverley myself, but don't want him till the sunderland game so i've time to see how that one goes

have been close to picking bannan, but (after the city game) will be playing agbonlahor - and for me villa aren't quite attacking enough to justify two players

Cheers lads, some valuable advice there thanks a lot :-).

I'm tied between agbonlahor and zamora and bannan all at the same time, but will see how things pan out i think after gameweek 9 as yet, however i may just throw zamora or maybe sturridge in there.

Shall have a think, not doing anything until international break is over anyway. Thanks again 🙂

Bannan - the best alternative to Moses and Dyer. I like him a lot and he'd be in my team if I didn't have Aggy but I am considering Bannan in for O Hara and Sturridge in for Aggy (depending on his back injury situation)
Zamora, I wanted him from the very start and I'm not at all surprised he's doing so well.
I only put Aggy in because of Z's injuries but I'm not complaining about the missed Zamora points cos Aggys done v well.

To answer your question I would bring Zamora in cos his fixtures stay good when Newcastles get really tough and he's twice the player Best is. I also think Ba is a better bet than Best for points. Best is the option only of your stuck for cash

    Given - Vorm

    Kompany - Jose Enrique - Brown - Ward - N Taylor

    Silva - Nani - Sinclair - Cabaye - Moses

    Aguero - RVP - Holt

    1.5 Million in bank.

I really want to get rooney in for Aguero for GW9 but Holt needs replacing. Should I get sturridge in for Holt considering I will then not have nough cash for rooney? HELP PLEEEEASE!!

whats the cheapest holt-replacement you can get, that will still allow you to get rooney

and can rooney wait until after the city game? or do you want him for that match

A 5.6 replacement. Best and A Johnson look the only real potential. Well I don't want aguero for the derby and I prefer united's fixtures proceeding that clash so I feel that would be the best time to bring Wazza in?

oops sorry misread that as preceding

well in that case how about

GW8: keep aguero for the villa game, bring in sturridge for holt
GW9: ditch kompany for the derby to a defender thats cheap enough to let you bring in rooney

Could you afford RVP---> Rooney later? I think it'd be worth it, Wazza is still pretty in form and, as you said, he does look appealing after the liv match.

Yeah Sturridge is great for a couple gameweeks until Torres gets back, and then he will be rotated methinks. But for a short term FFp yield, Sturridge looks the man...

      Why change holt?
His fixtures are good and he's on pens - he'll prob do ok I'd leave him in and just play Moses if you dont fancy Holt in your first 11. Moses has really good fixtures for weeks as well and he's defo gonna do something pointswise soon, he's been so close on a number of occasions.

If you really want holt out bring in Best. You'll be doubled up on Newcastle players but that might be ok for gameweek 9 when they have Wigan at home. You could then trade Cabaye for Ramsey or the likes at some stage in the future....

Oxaide Chamberlain already scored two goals for the U21's after 25 minutes. One of them was kind of a goal keeping error, but that lad seems to be on top form. I would definitely consider him at 5.8m if he managed to get some starts
