With seven Gameweeks gone, Tony Pulis’ Stoke hover above mid-table in the Premier League and, apart from a surprise hammering at the hands of Sunderland, have made a relatively solid start to the new season.

Campaign highlights to date include draws against Manchester United and Chelsea as well as a victory over Liverpool though significantly, all three results have come at the Britannia. There’s a stark contrast between their home and away form; faced with much trickier visitors, the Potters have managed (W1 D2 L0 F2 A1), compared with (W1 D1 L2 F2 A7) on the road.

With four of their next six Premier League fixtures at the Britannia (FUL ars NEW bol QPR BLA) and given their ability to reduce the league’s most fertile strikers to impotent flops on home soil, the Stoke backline becomes a promising option in the Gameweeks ahead. These impressive defensive displays are no one-off though; since their promotion to the top flight, Pulis has continually masterminded astute resistance at the Britannia, with (15, 21, 18) home goals conceded in the past three seasons.

Ryan Shawcross is currently top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender for the Potters- his 26 FPL points just pipping Robert Huth on 21. The German’s barnstorming 2010/11 campaign saw him start this season priced at 6.0 to Shawcross’ 5.0 but the summer acquisition of both Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson has seen a shift in Pulis’ focus.

Huth has been Stoke’s regular right-back this time round, though the last two games have seen him appear from the bench, with Shawcross firmly re-established as the number-one central defensive option at the Britannia. Subsequently, Huth has seen a slight dip in price, dropping 0.1, while Shawcross has risen by the same amount as a result of their respective roles and game time so far.

While Woodgate, who has been ever-present when available, is another option and a potential bargain at 4.5, his fitness will always be a nagging doubt and Fantasy managers will surely be tempted by the guaranteed game time offered by Shawcross in comparison. Shawcross has also shown a knack for picking up bonus points so far this season. Stoke have chalked up three clean sheets already and he’s returned bonus in two of these fixtures, grabbing 2 at home to Chelsea and the maximum away to West Brom.

Over his last two seasons in the Premier League, the former England U21 cap has also chipped in with his fair share at the other end of the pitch – contributing 5 goals and 4 assists. Given his side’s set-piece goal threat, you would expect him to add to that tally sooner rather than later and with such a strong resilience at the back, he makes a significant climb in our newly-updated Watchlist rankings.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

How much money do you have? I would start by getting rid of Surman.

Also wait to see how long Aguero is out for - may have to get rid of him.

Does anyone know if Ben Arfa can play in the same position as that piece of crap Obertan?

I know Pardew doesn't want to change a winning team, but I'm hoping he gives Barfa some bloomin' game time!

    Ashley Young to David Silva
Sergio Aguero to Robin van Persie.

Just don't want to have £11.2m sitting on my bench in the shape of Aguero, and will get him back in after the derby. What you guys reckon?

If Utd concede the same chances they did to Norwich, Fadam'll have a field day. Vidic may be back, but how fit can he possibly be?

Playing for Serbia this week, so he'll be fine. Jones and Vidic will be excellently beastly. WIll probably be Rio and Vidic as CBs though thinking about it.

Sounds a bit familiar. Vidic sees red after hauling down a clean-thru Suarez whilst sauntering Rio watches on. Tis all Rio's good for now. Hope Phil gets the nod.

I fancy Liverpool to win this game and make it 3 in a row v United at home.
United were poor v Norwich, and think they will be there for the taking.

Rooneys form seems to be dipping, and if United go 442, they will get beaten

Sinclair is exactly the right price above Dyer. Sinclair will score more points but not necessarily enough to justify the extra cost.

    96 % Ramsey, Aaron Arsenal 6.3 32087 30555 1175

The league is so open this year i dont even think united will keep that many clean sheets. Its all about the midfield and forward players for me.

If you nothing in the bank then perhaps swapping woodgate for shawX? When aguero is fit he could be swapped for RVP and get Kompany in at same time?

United do have a good run coming up, and I am thinking of getting in Jones myself (but for Bosingwa). If push came to shove for me, I would rather have Kompany in my team.

I had the same thinking that he'll rise very soon, so I transferred him in last night. Hoping Anelka and Drogba don't take away too much of his game time, but as FFS has already noted in Sturridge's article - whenever he's fit, he starts.

        Vorm (Given)
Shawcross, Kompany, Bosingwa (Ward, De Laet)
Wright-Phillips, Ashley Young, Nasri, Ramires (Arteta)
        Sturridge, Adebayor (C), Suarez (V).

At the moment I'm iffy about putting Arteta on the bench, I feel as if SWP will fire up against Blackburn and that Arteta will be out-classed by Ramsey.
