Our Watchlist rankings, listing our current player recommendations for the next three to four gameweeks, have been updated and are available for your perusal. Read on for a breakdown of this week’s moves and logic behind them…

The goalkeeper rankings are our most volatile right now, as the likes of Chelsea, United and even City, struggle to maintain a run of clean sheets, the trend of acquiring budget of mid-price stoppers remains sound. Our current rankings reflect that, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina the only “expensive” goalkeeper option listed.

Villa’s Shay Given climbs to the top having so far failed to live up to the pre-season hype as the clear and obvious goalkeeping selection in our squads. Given has thus far kept 3 clean sheets in 8 starts, earning 5 points from saves along the way. That ranks him ninth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings right now, although we feel he now has fixtures in the short-term to boost his points tally and make up ground.

Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is the top scoring keeper in the FPL and, once his trip to the Emirates is disposed of, it’s hard to argue against his appeal of three home games in four from gameweek 10 onwards. He could well topple Given next time around – although arguably the Stoke defence is best covered via the likes of Ryan Shawcross who offers additional goal threat.

Indeed, Shawcross, subject of our Watchlist article last week, is again a climber, a move that almost breaks him into our top five rankings. Strong gameweek 9 fixtures keep both Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Fulham’s John Arne Riise ensconced in fourth and fifth, while above them, the trio of City’s Vincent Kompany, Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique remain settled. The latter has fully justified his number one ranking in recent weeks and, with three very strong consecutive fixtures, looks a clear front-runner for any defensive funds.

It must be said that both Kompany and Bosingwa look less secure. Villa-Boas’ side have kept just a single clean sheet, whilst City embark on a run of opponents that will test their resolve, starting with the trip to Old Trafford this weekend. Both could be set for drops in our Watchlist rankings in the near future, with the likes of Shawcross looking certain to be promoted in our thinking.

The top two spots in our midfielder rankings remain untouched, despite both David Silva and Nani being benched in gameweek 8. Below them, Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart is pushing hard and is beginning to look a real prospect as Spurs embark on a run of opponents that will surely grant them handsome attacking returns. Certainly, with Emmanuel Adebayor competing with a host of established attacking talent in our Fantasy forward lines, Van der Vaart looks a more viable option when it comes to covering Tottenham’s potential.

Bolton’s Martin Petrov came under the Watchlist microscope last week and with good reason – he enjoys a significant climb into our top five placings on the back of decent form and a favourable run of fixtures. At 5.8 in the FPL, it’s difficult to find a better value proposition for the month ahead, unless you’re prepared to take a risk on team-mate Chris Eagles at 5.3.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another prospect enjoying a climb this week – we’ve been studying his numbers carefully and, despite Fulham’s stuttering form, Dempsey’s goal threat remains substantial and indicates that returns could be very much on the agenda in weeks to come.

Established heavy-hitters Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard hover outside out top five – blasts from the pasts, both are enjoying a Fantasy renaissance having regained starting roles. Hugely expensive, the obstacle to investment in clear, although both could provide very strong differentials for those brave enough to invest. Juan Mata and Dirk Kuyt offer more budget friendly coverage of the Chelsea and Liverpool midfield – although both are arguably less explosive. Certainly Mata has yet to deliver the kind of returns we’ve seen from Lampard, while Kuyt’s potential is dented by the loss of spot-kick duties to Gerrard and the Dutchman always under threat of rotation with Andy Carroll kept on the leash.

Amongst the forwards, there really is little movement. Our endorsement of Robin Van Persie over both Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero paid off in gameweek eight, and we’re confident enough in the Arsenal’s skipper’s form and fixtures to leave him in the number one spot. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is also promoted above the Manchester pairing with fixtures over the next three gameweeks that should afford him the potential for significant returns.

Lower down, Gabby Agbonlahor enjoys a slight jump above Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge with stronger fixtures in his favour. They both trail Tottenham’s Adebayor however – he could be a real threat to the established top four if he can stay fit and begin to deliver over his run of favourable opponents.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So guys my team looks like the following at the moment

    Ruddy Vorm

Jones Taylor R Bosingwa Simpson Taylor

    Silva Nasri Nani Petrov Ferguson

    Van Persie Sturridge Aguero

I am toying with a few transfer possibilities and would appreciate your input

Nasri and Aguero > Gerrard and Ade

Nasri and Aguero > VDV and Suarez

Bosingwa/Jones and Nasri > Enrique and Gerrard

Bosingwa/Jones and Nasri > Enrique and VDV

? Which would you go for?

p.s they are all at the cost of a 4 point hit

I wouldn't change your front three really, I would think more about losing Simpson as it looks like Santon might take his place, and downgrade Nasri/Silva and upgrade Ferguson. Bannan and Walters would leave you money to upgrade Simpson to someone like Warnock or Shawcross.

Sorry that wasn't anyhting like you were actually suggesting.

Madness Rooney is fixture proof as many people seem to forget. He also plays deeper yet still gets the points. The same people who missed his boat at the start of the season would be voting for Suarez

It's not madness, plenty would but I wouldn't. Suarez has developed a habit of always nearly scoring but usually not actually scoring, and often looking like a card magnet - and although his disciplinary record is actually ok this season he's definitely got a couple of red cards in him.

For 2 weeks is fine, until they get Everton out the way. I;m in the same boat it's out of Rooney or Aguero to bring in Suarez. Leaning towards Rooney, as Aguero has good fixtures starting from next week.

Me and KoL were debating this. It's tricky as Rooney is seemingly fixture proof, but Suarez has amazing fixtures....price sealed it for me. I think if you have any United midfielders then it's not madness at all. Captain Suarez looks like a good idea this week.

Personally I would feel much more comfortable having Rooney over Suarez regardless of fixtures. Rooney will score more fantasy points. However if you havn't used your wildcard yet then it could be easy to try it for a few weeks then buy rooney back during the international break when you use the wildcard

obviously having Rooney is safer than Suarez, but it is also 2.9 more expensive, which can get you man upgrades elsewhere, I'd expect Suarez to score more than Rooney for the next 3..but I still have my WC so Im not worried.

That said L'pool don't have Europe to consider this season so maybe a week is enough rest...

Enrique | Bosingwa | Kompany | Da Laet | Simpson

    Mata | Nani | Silva | Ward | Moses

    Rooney | Dzeko | Best

I know terrible! Got 2 free transfers and .8 in the bank was considering:
    Mata > VDV/Gerrard Dzeko > Sturridge
    Mata > Petrov - Dzeko > Adeybayor - Best > Suarez 4point hit.

Or anything else, I know Da Laet and Ward ideally need to go, i have a WC left which i was saving for next INT break but maybe time to use it now?

Well DeLaet does need to go but you have a nice 3 plus Simpson so assuming he's third sub you can probably get away with holding him a little longer. Mata could do well against QPR so I don't see that as a priority either, Best could get something this week too. I'd probably do Dzeko to Adebayor and Henry to Petrov.

These next few weeks are going to be like brain freeze up front.

Suarez and Sturridge have this next 3 GWs where they could score a load, but then things turn.

Rooney has a great run from GW11 but so does Aguero and RVP.

Then there's Adebayor with also a very nice run.

Aguero Rooney Adebayor RVP I can see as being the top 4 in 3-4 weeks with it being so difficult to choose between them.

If fit, I'm happy to keep Ageuro...even as a sub he has the ability to score huge. rotation is not so much of a problem is they do not play at all and the bench is good. The main problem is them coming on for 20 mins. Ageuro is prob the only player I'm happy to have even for 20 mins.

Here's my plan ...currenlty have Sturridge- suarez - Rooney

      gwk 9 - Sturridge - suarez - RVP
      gwk10 - sturridge- suarez - Ageuro

Then who knows...depending on form and injuries may keep that or swap Suarez for rooney in gwk 11. Sturridge is such unbelievable value and I've had him since the 6.5 days that I'd be reluctant to ditch...frees up so much cash for the midfield.

Yeah I'll have Suarez Sturridge RVP this week too.

RVP > Aguero is a sound move, but then thinking of bringing in Ramsey in an attempt to cover the potential 'no RVP' for a few GWs.

Think Citeh's game at home to Wolves is a must for Aguero. My strategy for the next few gameweeks is keeping plenty of contingency budget in place to maximise the coverage of big hitters for the key games. The main variable for me is whether AVB sticks with Sturridge when Torres is back.

He will stick with Sturridge. Torres plays in the centre, Sturridge is being used as a winger. they are in different roles. Drogba is the one who will miss out when Torres is back.

been said many times on here

Top choice Mata- torres - Sturridge
        back up Malouda-Drogba-Anelka

Kalou is back up to the back up, likely on the right.

Yep, and with Anelka looking better as a sub (plus out of favour and seemingly on the outter) I can't see Sturridge missing too many games.
I seriously think he is a no-brainer, him and Adebayor are ridiculously underpriced Obviously with Aguero/RVP/Rooney it isn't ideal having them in the same position, but both should be alot more money IMO

I swapped Ade out for Suarez when I played my wc last week with a view towards getting him back in after the pool/Swansea game. In hindsight I wished I'd kept Ade now, bought him when he was 8.0 (8.5 now.....foolish move!).

I still have the same worry about Liverpool attackers that I did at the start of the season, there are too damn many of them! So many players could get in the points and unless they're scoring 3 every game then a few expensive players are going to miss out.

I started the season with Nani but bottled it and went with Young a few GW's in and have stubbornly refused to go back since. My reasoning was that Young will score more over the season because:-

    A) He's on set-pieces
    B) Fergie sees him more as a Prem player rather than Champs League with his limited European experience
    C) There is little competition for that left flank other thank Park (Giggs plays more central these days) whereas Nani has to contend with Valencia.

I hate having big hitters benched which is why in previous seasons i've avoided Man U and City players. Seems like YOung and Nani are being randomly rotated now thoough so i'm tempted to get rid and pick the more reliable Gerrard who doesn't have Europe to contend with or risk of rotation.

    Thoughts?

      A) Rooney is on most set pieces (corners really dont matter that much)
      B) He didnt even play against Norwich or Stoke or whoever the hell he was rested for.
      C) Nani has never been benched for Valencia (who is barely being used)
I just think Young is a one-hit wonder (in which he was gifted 2 assists for being tripped over)

I'm not sure you're right on the set-piece front. Apart from direct free-kicks near the box Rooney doesn't take them and even direct one's I've seen Young have a go with Rooney on the pitch.

I agree Nani wouldn't be 'benched' on form but I'd say Young is more versatile and therefore more likely to play. Young has played on right or left and in behind on a regular basis whereas Nani only really seems comfortable on the right.

It's a real tricky one. You seem a lot clearer in your mind on Nani than I am which is probably the kind of decisive thinking I need. That said I'm a stubborn MF so if I took out Young I'd probably go Gerrard rather than Nani.

Haha, yeah I just personally prefer Nani, Young is still a decent pick, but I think Nani is the obvious choice for some reason.
Young is on some set-pieces, but although so far he hasn't delivered from them..Vidic back could change that..

Yeh I couldn't help noticing Vidic was back. Would be great to get him or Baines (when his fixtures pick up) in but going with a top heavy strategy this season with the likes of Enrique, Komp and Bos providing good value in defence.

Outside of VDV (too expensive for me), what are your thoughts on Spurs midfield? Im tempted to bring Bale into my team, but has he actually looked much of a goal threat this season? Is Modric a better bet, or should i avoid them both.

In the Spurs midfield it's difficult to look past VdV, all the others feel overpriced to me. Best mid under 8m is going to be a bit of a hmmmmm all season. Lots of options around the 6.5 mark or just under - short term maybe Petrov or Ramsey, long term it's very difficult to say.

I've been sold on Young--> Stevie Me all week....now thinking this is the week I need to fix my defence and get Enrigue. I mean, if not vs NOR then it will never happen.

        So, Gabbidon-->Enrigue(free) and hang onto Young...which I unfort don't feel like doing...so young-->DVD for a 4pt hit.

Or just Young-->SG and pray for my simpson/tierney/taylor/brown defence.

If everyone stays fit then I intend saving a tranny in gw10 to have 2 come gw 11.

I would actually much rather have Enrique than Gerrard. The great thing about him is that he isn't reliant on cleanies and at 5.2 that makes him pretty amazing value particularly when the fixtures are this good. I am 0.1 short of Warnock to Enrique 🙂

Thinking of removing Nani and Gibbs and bringing in Lampard and Monk from swansea.

I have RVP Ade and Agbon up front so I'm willing to take a few risks in my midfield. Not convinced with VDV so far, and chelsea are a better team than liverpool so choosing lampard over gerrard seems wiser to me.

My midfield would be nasri silva cabaye and Lampard if this is done.
