Our Watchlist rankings, listing our current player recommendations for the next three to four gameweeks, have been updated and are available for your perusal. Read on for a breakdown of this week’s moves and logic behind them…

The goalkeeper rankings are our most volatile right now, as the likes of Chelsea, United and even City, struggle to maintain a run of clean sheets, the trend of acquiring budget of mid-price stoppers remains sound. Our current rankings reflect that, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina the only β€œexpensive” goalkeeper option listed.

Villa’s Shay Given climbs to the top having so far failed to live up to the pre-season hype as the clear and obvious goalkeeping selection in our squads. Given has thus far kept 3 clean sheets in 8 starts, earning 5 points from saves along the way. That ranks him ninth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings right now, although we feel he now has fixtures in the short-term to boost his points tally and make up ground.

Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is the top scoring keeper in the FPL and, once his trip to the Emirates is disposed of, it’s hard to argue against his appeal of three home games in four from gameweek 10 onwards. He could well topple Given next time around – although arguably the Stoke defence is best covered via the likes of Ryan Shawcross who offers additional goal threat.

Indeed, Shawcross, subject of our Watchlist article last week, is again a climber, a move that almost breaks him into our top five rankings. Strong gameweek 9 fixtures keep both Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Fulham’s John Arne Riise ensconced in fourth and fifth, while above them, the trio of City’s Vincent Kompany, Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique remain settled. The latter has fully justified his number one ranking in recent weeks and, with three very strong consecutive fixtures, looks a clear front-runner for any defensive funds.

It must be said that both Kompany and Bosingwa look less secure. Villa-Boas’ side have kept just a single clean sheet, whilst City embark on a run of opponents that will test their resolve, starting with the trip to Old Trafford this weekend. Both could be set for drops in our Watchlist rankings in the near future, with the likes of Shawcross looking certain to be promoted in our thinking.

The top two spots in our midfielder rankings remain untouched, despite both David Silva and Nani being benched in gameweek 8. Below them, Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart is pushing hard and is beginning to look a real prospect as Spurs embark on a run of opponents that will surely grant them handsome attacking returns. Certainly, with Emmanuel Adebayor competing with a host of established attacking talent in our Fantasy forward lines, Van der Vaart looks a more viable option when it comes to covering Tottenham’s potential.

Bolton’s Martin Petrov came under the Watchlist microscope last week and with good reason – he enjoys a significant climb into our top five placings on the back of decent form and a favourable run of fixtures. At 5.8 in the FPL, it’s difficult to find a better value proposition for the month ahead, unless you’re prepared to take a risk on team-mate Chris Eagles at 5.3.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another prospect enjoying a climb this week – we’ve been studying his numbers carefully and, despite Fulham’s stuttering form, Dempsey’s goal threat remains substantial and indicates that returns could be very much on the agenda in weeks to come.

Established heavy-hitters Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard hover outside out top five – blasts from the pasts, both are enjoying a Fantasy renaissance having regained starting roles. Hugely expensive, the obstacle to investment in clear, although both could provide very strong differentials for those brave enough to invest. Juan Mata and Dirk Kuyt offer more budget friendly coverage of the Chelsea and Liverpool midfield – although both are arguably less explosive. Certainly Mata has yet to deliver the kind of returns we’ve seen from Lampard, while Kuyt’s potential is dented by the loss of spot-kick duties to Gerrard and the Dutchman always under threat of rotation with Andy Carroll kept on the leash.

Amongst the forwards, there really is little movement. Our endorsement of Robin Van Persie over both Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero paid off in gameweek eight, and we’re confident enough in the Arsenal’s skipper’s form and fixtures to leave him in the number one spot. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is also promoted above the Manchester pairing with fixtures over the next three gameweeks that should afford him the potential for significant returns.

Lower down, Gabby Agbonlahor enjoys a slight jump above Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge with stronger fixtures in his favour. They both trail Tottenham’s Adebayor however – he could be a real threat to the established top four if he can stay fit and begin to deliver over his run of favourable opponents.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Bale for the win.

Among midfielders, Bale is tied for 4th most attempts on goal and 3rd most "Key Passes" -- besting Modric in both categories (quite significantly so in the "Goal attempts" category as well... though their "on target attempts" are similar).

Bale's my differential over the next few weeks. I'm giving him 3-4 run outs to hopefully produce.

What I would do over the next few weeks is look to lose 2 of your expensive back 5 and use the funds to upgrade Tiote to VDV. Something like:

Tiote, Jones & Richards -> VDV, Woodgate & Taylor (Swansea)

Your squad at the moment is decent, but too much spent on defence. My 2c worth anyway.

My "yes or no" answer would be yes -- its a pretty good move.

But my annoying answer and actual opinion is that I think you can make a better move than choosing Warnock. You have a good DF already, you can go Richards to someone quite cheap and then that gives you some offensive cash to splash.

Why? Enrique is a much better long-term option for only marginally more. Wolves DF doesn't give me any confidence.

I think point hits are worth it when its for the mid-to-long term.

Wolves at home to Swansea this w/e - mad to ship him out for that imo. Agree that Enrique is great value - I would probably get him in GW15 though after their tough run of fixtures.

I think NOR at home for enrique is equally appealing, and they actually both play Citeh and Chelsea between now and GW15 (the tough fixtures you had mentioned for liverpool).

Enrique is a defender you can stick in your team and forget about. He's usually a confident 2nd or 3rd spot in your back line, and he'd likely be chosen over Ward most weeks if one had both in their team.

      a) Enrique will have just 3 easy games, then che, MCY, ful. If you don't have plan to use money saved from the trade. I would still keep Bosingwa. Chelsea have just two tough games coming and both will be at home.

      b) Probably not this week as Arsenal v Stoke. Good trade for next week, anyway.

      c) Umm.. If you expect Arteta to do nothing and Walters to score/assist and Enrique to keep CS, it might be worth. But I think it's unlikely.

I think you are tempted to get Enrique for Liverpool good run. But, for this week, I would rather play Bosingwa - Simpson - Boyata this week.

Why are you obsessed with Stevie Me? He's only played one game and was hardly raking the FPL pts in before his injury?

Enrique and Suarez would be the only two I'd consider from LIV.

There is also Tierney as well who has played every game for NOR.

Any idea who is the regular starter for STK in defence: Higginbotham, Huth, Wilkinson and Wilson?

Dont normally ask for opinions but I will on this occasion - need to offload Best uptop and have only 2.7 in the bank - dont want ANOTHER 4 point hit - I guess my options are Ba or Sturidge with Klasnic an outside shout.

    Any thoughts??

I've got Enrique and will probably give the Spuds a miss.

I take the view that Rooney and RVP will always play which is something you don't get with RVP and Aguero.

True, ManU were lucky not to concede. That's my problem though....hoping for a Enrigue CS and a possible assist is not as exciting as having Suarez(c).

Plus I'm not sold on Rvp(c) this gw.

Can't see the Canaries keeping a CS at Spionkop. But they might nick a goal.

Hello guys, looking for some opinions here..

    1. Brunt (difficult fix) to Moses/Bannan/Petrov/Cleverley?
    2. De Laet to Boyata/Tierney/A. Hughes (is he nailed on?)/McAuley?
    3. or Mata to Gerrard (itchy fingers)?

Which one is more urgent and which player should I choose? Would you have other suggestions?

I have 2.9 in the Bank but short 0.1 to bring in Rooney back after Everton.

My consideration for doing 2 is I believe doing 1 or 3 will prolly get me more points while De Leat will just be sitting in the 3rd bench anyway. However I also wanna do 2 cause it feels assuring to have a playing 3rd sub.

        Im confused :s

Gerrard will get more points than mata for the next three weeks,
if you looking for a short term transfer that is probably the best option.
but for a long hual i believe mata will score more point by the end of the season

Yep I am reluctant to do that transfer because I will want to bring in Mata again for the long term. Feels like I will be "wasting" 2 transfer to chase and hope for Gerrard's haul.

                mata > Gerrard
                sturr > ade

that's what i'm doing for this week, after i'm sure that suarez is safe for his racial remarks.

i'm getting rid of Gerrard by week12 tho, plan to bring in VDV or mata
if Gerrard has his explosive run then you don't have to worry about money. But then i still have 1M to spare so i don't really worry much about $$

Seems like a good move mate, you'd be laughing if Gerrard take Norwich to the cleaners.. Do you still have any Chelsea cover tho?

                    i'll do
                    mata > gerd
                    ade > sturridge

so my front 8 will be
                    fox cabaye ramsey gerd silva
                    stur suarez roon

double on liv and none on tot
                    tot, liv and che
i spend a lot of time thinking who to leave out, eventually i choose to disarm my tot cover - i think their fixture is the toughest one out of the three

      - Gerrard will get more points than Mata but how much more is the question?
      - De Laet might be the best transfer but is it really that urgent?
      - Brunt has found a wee bit of form and might be worth holding onto for another week. At least till Cleverley/Bannan is back in their teams

      Maybe save a transfer?

While Mata has been consistent with his assists, I just feel that Gerrard is able to get big hauls in the next 2-3 weeks. Getting rid of De Laet will give me assurance to have a playing 3rd sub.

Agree on Brunt, might keep him afterall.

No more urgent transfer needs for this week, so I just thought to use the transfer to sort the De Laet issue.

People normally captain their big hitters (the Rooneys, Agueros, RVPs). Cleansheets are hard to come by and unpredictable so far and bonus points are awarded mainly to goal scorers this season.

Jafa, you've been big on Tierney, what makes you choose him over the other 4m-ers like Boyata/McAuley? Has he been getting forward and putting the ball in the box alot? I presume he is nailed on and no rotation risks?

He's played every game for NOR and the reports suggest that they relie on him to put balls in the box. He got an assist 2-3 weeks ago. The opta data also suggests he's been putting crosses in as well.

I've actually been q impressed with NOR. I think Lambert is a bit like MON - gets the best out of his players.

McAuley now has poor fix even though it looks like he has cemented his place in the team. Don't know much abt Boyata sorry.

Could do with knowing if Wilkinson at STK is a regular starter πŸ˜•

Yeah true. Something has to give.

No seriously, I caught everyone in my mini league off guard with Rvp(c) last week, which makes me think they probably have a life and don't spend hours on FFS! Which is a good thing. For them. And me.

Anyway, what makes it worst for them is that most took out Kun for Djeko(!) or they made other transfers so for them to get in RVP it would mean hits and reshuffling their team.

Srangely enough non of the teams above me have any livpool attacking cover either. Everyone has Roonpig + Nani/Young. I'm kind of happy I have Young. Easy to cut him loose.

A few have got on to the Sturridge train.

My aim is to get Pool & Spuds attacking cover. (why did I sell the Whore?)

Soooo, i'm left with Adbwhore + pool(mid) or Suarez + DVD. Would then get Nani in for Mata in gw 11.

        Thoughts?

There are seven fwds at the top of the Watchlist and any combo could serve you well.

RVP has the fixtures so he can be justified.

Roonpig has the form if not the fixtures. Playing the fixtures this year hasn't necessarily been the best option.

If you have AY, you might as well go to VDV. Can you get Suarez?

Only way to get Suarez is dumping Roonpig.(I'm keeping Sturridge and will then trade Mata for Nani)

I should have stuck to my notes on my ticker....

Scary thing is my gut says SG this week...no one in my league will have him. I'm sure.
