In a new series of Members articles entitled “Talent”, we turn our attentions to players whose Fantasy fortunes have taking an upturn over their previous four Gameweeks. Digging deep into the Opta stats and our very own ICT Index, we analyse the data to ascertain just why this has come about. First up, then, is none other than Sunderland’s on-loan forward, Nicklas Bendtner.

A mere bench-warmer at Arsenal, the big Dane’s last-minute move to Wearside has kick-started his chances as a viable Fantasy prospect this term. With Asamoah Gyan moving to the United Arab Emirates to star for Al-Ain on a season-long loan, Bendtner has grabbed the role as Steve Bruce’s number-one forward and, so far, has justified his manager’s faith.

Although he missed last weekend’s game at Arsenal due to the loan arrangement with his parent club, Bendtner’s four games for Sunderland have seen him return one goal, three assists and three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points; that’s twenty-four Fantasy points from the 6.4 forward, an average of 6 points per game. He also took that form into last week’s international matches, scoring in Denmark’s crucial 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifier over Portugal- with a run of games under his belt, he’s starting to show a consistency that none, other than Bendtner himself, had expected. Here’s how he’s been faring up on Wearside:

    Jafalad! As you're on and I'm awake what do you think to my team?

    Was thinking just Balotelli>Suarez to give me:

    Hennessey
    Simpson Warnock Naylor
    Bannan Nani VDV Silva
    Suarez RVP(c) sturridge

    Begovic Hoolahan Tierney ShawX

    All opinions obviously welcome!

      Morning/Afternoon/Evening F'boy 😉

      Yes I like the balance of your team particulalry weighted to score in midfield and upfront. For me, Ballotelli represents a bit of a risk in FPL.

      You might want to consider Enrique for ShawX too as you have doubled up on STK in defence although you might as well wait now with STK's better fix coming up.

      Best of luck! 😛

        Why Hennessy?

        Stoke keep cleanies so I understand Bego, but Hennessy?

        Not kept a cleanie in the last 5. I'd swap him for Vorm who is world class, especially at home.

          he justs rotates sooooo well with Begovic, I know they've not kept a cleanie in forever, but it's more a hope/risk than a sensible choice to be honest haha

            Rotation should be judged on how many clean sheets you will get, not just who's playing at home.

            Swansea at home are (so far) invincible, and Stoke at home are (so far) too.

            So although they don't rotate perfectly until the end of time, I've gone for Vorm and Bego for the foreseeable. It's worked out so far and is better than Vorm/Given looking at the fixtures.

        Do you think? From my limited knowledge of Chelsea i thought Sturridge had been playing wide right of a front 3 with him and Mata flanking a central striker, either Drogba or Torres thus far. I thought it was Anelka who was the main threat to Sturridge

      The first two seasons of the American version just has the same script almost word for word, but after that it picks up a bit and is pretty funny.

      So download (legally of course) the third series onwards and you'll be able to identify all the characters and it's amusing. Although not as funny unless you understand the references to the equivalents of Swindon and Slough in American terminology/bias/reputation.

      p.s. I used to work in Swindon and also in the US so got most of the jokes.

    My Learned Friends; Here is my Team:
    Given Vorm
    Gabbidon Bosingwa Kompany RTaylor Enrique
    Mata Nasri Moses Banan Brunt
    Suarez RVP Dzeko.

    Im in two minds whether I need to WC or not in GW 11/12. Im happy with GK/DEF but MID/FOR could do with a bit of a shuffle.

    What do you guys think? WC or else these changes over the next few weeks
    GW9: Nasri -> Petrov (BOL)
    GW10: Dzeko -> Aguero
    GW11: Mata -> Nani
    GW12: Suarez -> Ade

    Do I need another big hitter in MF? I only have a team value of 100.5 atm due to a disastrous start.
    Many thanks!

    Piggybacking upon the conversation on the last page about the RVP-Rooney-Sturridge frontline, I agree that if I had to pick three strikers, it would be those three, but what happens after this weekend when Aguero is back in the picture. I had assumed RVP out for him just on principle, but now I'm not so sure.

      Strikers will be very difficult to pick this year. I think it is best to go for 3 big hitters up front. I think they will be more consistent and deliver more points than midfielders

        RVP - Suarez - Sturridge is my front 3 atm.
        Having the ability to get Rooney or Aguero in when fixtures ease it important but going with RVP - Rooney/Aguero - Suarez means fairly limited funds for the rest of your team.
        The rotation threat for all ManU and ManC players makes RVP and Suarez that little bit more attractive for mine.
        Furthermore, I see a lot of people suggesting Sturridge will be threatened by Torres when he returns from suspension - don't think this is the case actually, in fact having Torres in the team will benfit Sturridge's output.

          I'm one of those with a super cheap defense, so I'm fine with going with pricier forwards. Sturridge-Rooney-RVPorAguero plus 3 midfielders costing over 9 mil is good business for me.

      It's going to be a lottery, as usual.

      Rotation/injuries and form will dictate which of them, if any, to transfer out.

      And after stating the bleedin' obvious, then it depends whether you have the patience not to fiddle about with them.

      Not personally, but in a knee jerk kind of way. 🙂

    I just read a story where Harry Redknapp is quoted as saying, in defense of using yoga at practice, "Ryan Giggs is into it, big time."

    That is so perfect. I'm going to start using that for everything.

    "Have you heard the new M83 album? Ryan Giggs is into it, big time."
    "I just bought a juicer. Ryan Giggs is into it, big time."

        +1, I'd leave Ramsey for at least this week and Kompany just rised yesterday so might as well wait until after the derby. With the money I think you should work around on Ferguson, to have a playing 3rd sub will be crucial over the season imo.

    So I took a look at Arteta's average positioning vs Ramsey's average positioning, and it was absolutely no help in deciding whether I want to do Arteta OUT Ramsey IN to save some cash, or keep the faith with Arteta.

    Having watched Arteta play more this season than ever I think, I am mesmerized by his pinpoint passing and his sixth sense to pick out a pass, no Cesc, but who is. Watching Ramsey bang in the points in the last few weeks has really made me question my decision of having Arteta when Ramsey is cheaper and in form.

    Looking at chalkboars and heat maps, Ramsey has played slightly more forward than Arteta in the last 3 games, he has had more shots on target in these games. Prior to this, Arteta was either playing further forward than Ramsey or about the same level on the pitch, and both players averaged about the same shots on target.

    It is clear that Ramsey is in form, but Arteta is still a weapon, so this week, do I do Taarabt OUT Ramsey IN and play Arteta/Ramsey/RVP - taking Arteta OUT next week, or do I do Arteta OUT Ramsey IN? I have no idea.

      From what I've seen, Ramsey seems to make a lot of late runs into the box while Arteta mainly stays outside to string-pull. So in that regards, Ramsey is a better prospect for me while also being cheaper.

      Taarabt is hopeless so I'd deal with that first before doing Arteta to Ramsey.

    Bit out of it lads so summarise for me, Arteta is bad all of a sudden? He playing DM or something? Got him in my team but also want to downgrade Dzeko as presumably no chance of him playing this weekend, so not sure what combo to swap them for if Arteta is a no go.

      my bad I meant to reply here. I say VDV or Sturridge. I personally Wouldn't want to risk the armband with a defender in any week. Both of those fixtures could bring in massive points for spurs or chelsea.

      definitely not enrique captain.

      Any of the other 4 you mention are better candidates. I guess vdv is a reasonable choice since this season blackburn are terrible at home, and he seems to pick up points even when he plays badly, but there is no stand out option there.

      Depends on how you see these games going. If you see CTY conceding 2 or more goals, then you go with Moses.

      If you think it will be a tight game, low scoring, then you go with Bad K. 😕

      I have always been tempted to bring moses in but his returns are very poor so have avoided. I'm sure he must be due a big score soon but more likely he will only get 2 points. Based on that I would go Kompany as he seems more likely to score than moses at present and if no CS worse case is the same 2 points

      I feel it's going to be a tight game. I know it may seem biased, but Moses hasn't done anything all season. Kompany is expensive and shouldn't rot on the bench. It could be a scoreless draw, but I think any side will score more than 2. Maybe Kompany will continue to bring goals haha. I'm keeping him in my squad for sure

    Hi folks

    A little help with my GW11 wildcard if you please. Nani or Silva?

    Nani pros - better fixtures, more of a goalscoring threat (so more bonus)
    cons - looks like more of a rotation risk, my main rival has him (and i'm chasing a 100+ point deficit)

    Silva pros - best player in the league on form, consistent points, less of a rotation risk
    cons - some tough fixtures, doesn't get as many bonus as he should

    Any help would be much appreciated.
