Another week, another new formation for the Scout Picks Selection Committee. After trialling a 3-5-2 last week, we roll out a 3-4-3 with a trio of left-backs in defence ahead of Gameweek Nine. Here’s who we have for you this Friday evening…

Shay Given gets the nod between the posts with a home derby against West Brom on the horizon. Villa will be determined to bounce back after losing their unbeaten record at Man City last weekend and, with two clean sheets from four home games, the Irishman’s selection looks a strong one.

Liverpool’s home clash with Norwich affords Jose Enrique a place in the Scout Picks. The left-back’s marauding runs have played a pivotal role in his side’s attacking ploys of late, picking up 2 assists in his last three appearances. Norwich have returned just 1 goal in their games at Chelsea and Man United, suggesting a strong chance of points at the back as well as going forward.

John Arne Riise is selected courtesy of Fulham’s solid home form. Despite some poor away results, Martin Jol’s side remain undefeated at the Cottage, picking up two clean sheets from four to date. Everton arrive on the back of three straight defeats and with Riise rested for yesterday’s Europa League match away to Wisla Krakow, he should be fit and raring to wreak havoc on David Moyes’ out-of-sorts side.

Ryan Taylor is the third left-back in the picks. The second-top scoring FPL defender after eight Gameweeks, Taylor squares up to old club Wigan at St James Park this weekend. With Newcastle undoubtedly buoyed after twice coming from behind to earn a draw with Spurs last Sunday, Taylor –with set-piece duties thrown into the mix- is a nailed-on shout.

Rafael Van der Vaart travels to bottom club Blackburn in the back of some impressive recent form. The Dutchman has netted in each of his last three games, despite Harry Redknapp’s tendency to sub him off midway through the second half. His spot-kick duties merely add to Van der Vaart’s appeal and, up against a side that have conceded 7 goals in their last two home matches, he’ll fancy his chances.

A goal and an assist in his last home game perhaps went unnoticed due to a hat-trick from Andy Johnson, but Clint Dempsey has still turned in some solid displays at the Cottage this season. Similar to Riise, he was rested from Europa League duties yesterday, with Martin Jol aiming to propel Fulham back up the league this Sunday at Everton’s expense.

If Bolton are to continue their climb up the table, it’s likely Martin Petrov will play a significant part. The Bulgarian has picked up 3 of his 4 assists this season at home, returning hauls against both Man City and Chelsea- the visit of Sunderland should hold little fear, then.

We needed some Chelsea coverage for the trip to QPR and, after much deliberation, we plumped for an old Fantasy favourite. Frank Lampard gets the nod over Juan Mata in midfield, with his hat-trick at the Reebok still fresh in our minds. Lampard also bagged an assist and bonus last week- the perfect combination of form and fixture ahead of his game at Loftus Road.

After his heroics last week, there’s no way we could turn our backs on Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman has now scored a brace in each of his last two games at the Emirates and although Tony Pulis’ Stoke will prove an obstinate opponent, Van Persie –after a slow start to the season- is starting to look like the guaranteed goal-getter he was in the latter half of last season.

A home game with Norwich is a Fantasy manager’s dream. As Liverpool prepare for tomorrow evening’s Anfield showdown, Paul Lambert has a task on his hands, with the Canaries failing to record a single clean sheet thus far. Luis Suarez comes into the game with 2 goals in his last 3 games and there’s almost an inevitability about him stealing the headlines for all the right reasons this time.

Our final slot was a toss-up between two forwards in a hot streak of form and eventually, Gabby Agbonlahor won a place in our starting lineup at Demba Ba’s expense. There’s nothing like a Midlands derby to stoke up Agonlahor’s fire and with three goals in his four home games, we gets the nod by the narrowest of margins, with the Newcastle man taking his seat on the bench.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Blackburn have conceded 3 more goals at home than Norwich have away so it's a very difficult one.

I need a defender for 4.0. Who would people go for? I was gonna go for Monk but it sounds like he might have competition for his place

Why is there Wigan in the picture to the post? Is that a hint that Newcastle may lose their unbeaten status this weekend? 😉

Considering what Nani has done to city in recent games, theres no way I would get rid of Nani for this match. He took them apart this fixture last year and in the charity shield. LB is still city's weakness imo.

Okay, this is the last time i’m going to ask for advice this week (didn't realise there was a new post), been the most difficult to decide on what to do ever i reckon.

    Given, Ruddy
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Simpson, Brown, Wilkinson
    Mata, Silva, Arteta, Moses, Dyer
    Rooney, Dzeko, Sturridge

2 free transfers with 2.4 in the bank.

    Any suggestions?

Really want Spurs cover but then Suarez seems an obvious player to get in for Dzeko.

Wanted to do that, Arteta for Ramsey and Moses to Bale but 0.1 short, so annoyed at it.

Agree massively. But United have been very attack-minded this year, and can't see them not scoring. Even if Mankini does his best with 3 DCMs.

Wolves host Swansea who've hardly got a stellar track record away from home, so it's a good chance for them to end their run of defeats.

It's a tight call though. I'll be sweating on it too...

Too much money in def: Merte, Bos, Bad K.

I'd take Bad K out for Tierney 4.0

      Then Odem out for Suarez.

The other two will have to wait but you have enough defendery coverage for this week so don't worry about Enrique.

You are not really thinking this through or even answering the question set by the poster.

There is no point playing 3 exp defs with so few cs and the balance of the points weighted upfront this season.

If he wants to bring in Suarez - probably the best scoring option of the 3 choices - then that defence has to be downgraded. I believe Bad K is 6.1 and the other two are 5-5-6. Tierney plays every week and puts a few decent balls in the box. He is well covered by Bos and Merte this week.

    Current lineup is

    Given (Vorm)
    Simpson Bosingwa Kompany (Brown) (Senderos)
    Mata Silva Cabaye Arteta (Bannan)
    Sturridge Adebayor (c) Rooney

I quite want to give Bannan a run out but feel Arteta may be crucial at Stoke despite his lack of returns and the only other option is Silva but as a Man Utd fan that reeks of bias. Only other question is, again bias, Brown over Kompany?

Was set on ward > enrique.

Wolves are horrible at the back, but Pool have not kept a CS at home this season.
    Thoughts on

    1. ward > enrique
    2. keep ward and free transfer
    3. an alternative for 5.4m

only 2 assists and no CS at home so far. Not great.

Also, wouldnt assume Norwich will be a pushover. They could very easily have beaten United had things gone their way.

2 assists in 8 games for a defender is decent. Liverpool will get clean sheets in there next three imo.

Do ward to Enrique. It's a solid move for a minimum of three weeks. Ordinarily I wouldn't take a Wolves player out this week but Liverpool have irresistible fixtures and you want to be in at the start. Also Enrique should continue to rise in price and Ward may keep falling.

Am I daft leaving Phil Jones on the bench? I bought him as a long-term, play every week, keeper, but seems a bit silly as I reckon City will score on Sunday. Team is:

    Krul
    Bosingwa, J.Enrique, Simpson
    VDV, Mata, Silva, Ramsey
    Rooney, Suarez (c), Johnson
    Subs: Moses, N.Taylor, Jones

Swap for Simpson? Doubling up on Newcastle def ATM...

Simpson looks like he might be replaced with Santon (according to latest tweets). I reckon City will score too but Phil Jones does have a good attacking threat

Ridiculous how Gerrard is not in there. VDV may not even start he has been so average recently. Could easily be Bale, Parker, Sandro, Modric, defoe, Ade. Gerrard will play 90 mins at home to one of the tastiest fixtures.

It's about coverage though - Gerrard and Suarez could be overkill, whereas VDV and Lampard offer coverage of two sides who should also be amongst the goals.

I think Blackburn away will be tough for Spurs. Personally, I would much rather double attacking coverage on Norwich at home. Liv will score more than Spurs so I would much rather coverage on that. Suarez easily fail as per Bolton and so I would want Gerrard who will be on every set piece and pivotal. VDV plays 60 mins regardless at present and 'arry was hinting massively against picking him last week.

Everyone is getting far too excited about Gerrard. He got a slightly lucky goal last week and is coming back from injury. Everyone is assuming Norwich will be crushed and i am not convinced.
