[sbu_large_image] Spot the Differential

After waiting all season to jump in the Rolls Royston, I had the Dutchman all written up as a Differential and the mouse hovering over the โ€˜confirm transfersโ€™ button only for the inevitable red card to ruin my Everton-related Differential dreams.

Growing up as an Everton fan does prepare you somewhat for footballing disappointments, so despite having to throw that one back in the pond for another week, I managed to pick myself up in time to fish out another three for you to chew over. As we continue our countdown to Gameweek Ten then, it’s time to look over the Scout Selection Committee’s Differential picks for this week…..

James Milner

With such a rich source of midfield talent available, rest and rotation is a big problem to anyone considering investing in Man City, particularly with their Champions League involvement to factor in. Against all the odds, though, it is James Milner who looks the most rotation proof right now. Nothing is guaranteed where Roberto Mancini is involved of course, butย Milner is the only attacking midfielder to have started all of the last three league matches, and as Samir Nasri and Adam Johnson both started in the Carling Cup tie on Wednesday, itโ€™s pretty clear where he sits in the pecking order at present.

A look through the FPL statistics for the season throws up a lot of unexpected results; if you work it out on a โ€˜per minute playedโ€™ basis then Milner has a better EA PPI and overall points return than David Silva, and has also picked up more bonus points. Priced at just 7.5 to Silvaโ€™s 10.2 and owned by just 2.4%, Milner could prove to be a huge differential over the next few weeks then, and considering Cityโ€™s goal scoring form, he looks like an excellent source of fantasy points.

Somen Tchoyi

After a poor start to the season, Roy Hodgsonโ€™s West Brom side have looked much improved in recent games and after two solid wins on the trot, they will be full of confidence going into their home tie against Liverpool.

Before last week Hodgson looked settled on a Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long front line, but with a knee injury set to keep Long out for 6 weeks, he will almost certainly draft in a ready-made replacement rather than try to change their formation. Somen Tchoyi is the obvious choice to replace him up front having already played there in pre-season, and priced at just 5.1 in the FPL game and classed as a midfielder, Tchoyi looks great value.

In many ways, Tchoyi is the definition of a differential. Heโ€™s cheap, has low ownership and as a midfielder playing out of position, he should provide excellent value for money over the short to medium term. Four home ties in next six, including games against the struggling Bolton and Wigan should more than make up for a tricky trip to Arsenal next week, so if youโ€™re looking for a cheap fifth midfielder then Tchoyi looks as good an option as any right now.

Hugo Rodallega

If you take a look at the current league standings then youโ€™d be forgiven for dismissing Wigan as a source of Fantasy points; they sit joint bottom of the league after six defeats on the trot, and have managed just six goals all season. Thankfully thereโ€™s more to it than that; the Latics have looked much improved in recent weeks, and will consider themselves very unlucky not to have picked up a result against Bolton or Newcastle.

Home ties against Fulham and Blackburn as well as a trip to Wolves in their next three should give then plenty of chances to pick up goals, and with the return to fitness of Hugo Rodallega theyโ€™ve finally got someone who can put the ball in the net.

With 11 attempts on target against Newcastle (thatโ€™s more than Man United, Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal last week) it seems incredible that they didnโ€™t get more from that game. Although Rodallega didnโ€™t get on the score sheet last week, he looked sharp in front of goal and gave Wigan an edge that theyโ€™ve been missing in recent games. Priced at just 6.0 and with an ownership of 1.9%, he could prove to a decent differential over the next few games.

i am still so worried with bringing in aguero..i know he never got rested when a champs. lge game is on the horizon, but this one is really important, so i feel he isn't going to play...that's why i shud make a bold move and bring in bendtner...

so rooney off and bendtner on??

or suarez off and bendtner on??

or just screw bendtner and keep both..lol

Which 2 out of 3 to play:

    Bosingwa, woodgate or Simpson

My thinking with Woodgate is, if he plays he has a good chance of a cleanie and if he doesn't i'll more than likely get an autosub anyway!?

    Thoughts?

Not particularly happy with this team, but don't want to wildcard just yet. Also don't want to spend too much in case I want to bring Rooney or RVP back in for Suarez after next week.

    Hart (Hennessey)
Figueroa Warnock Shawcross (N Taylor, Simpson)
    Tiote Dyer Silva Nani (Derry)
    Suarez Adebayor (C) Aguero (VC)

1 free transfer this week, 2.7m in the bank.

    Should I:
    A) Sit tight
    B) VDV for Nani
    C) Pilkington/Tchoyi or similar for Tiote
    D) Tierney for Simpson
    E) Ruddy for Hennessey (just to free up funds)
    F) Something else?

    Thoughts welcome!

Well get in VDV if you can, If you have to lose Nani then sobeit. You have plenty of cash to buy him back in a couple of weeks time.

Failing that then Hart to Vorm in preparation to save some money to upgrade your mids.

Cheers people. Not too bothered about the defence actually, they've served me well enough in the current clean sheet drought. If I go or VdV I have to hope that no-one else in my league does. Seems unlikely though.

You have to figure out how to get all of VDV -Nani-Silva in your midfield. Or at least some ManU rep, if not Nani. So I wouldn't do B. .

Isn't Tiote hurt for awhile. I'd play Simpson over Fig. and Derry is going to have a long day too. So I would do C or sit tight and do two next week (Suarez out perhaps but at SWA is good for LIV, so maybe wait until the following week, So to get VDV maybe get a cheaper FWD than ADE like Bendtner (don't laugh)) and hope Aguero saves this week.

the thing is, the sensible thing to do would be to captain VDV as torres is away at blackburn next week, THEN captain him for that, i just dont know, i may even cave in and opt for VDV, it's probably the hardest captain choice ive had up to now, just feel there's a new torres on the horizon and no better way to show it than at arsenal, with mata supplying. thing is ive got nothing to lose, so might as well go for differential and still got VDV points to add if i dont cap him, also sensible? ๐Ÿ™‚

Pretty mental mate, but at least it is pretty random with how bad it is ha! When it gets later on in the night you get even worse too.

Im predicting that you will get around 60-70 points too mate, if everything goes to plan! Even with your torres captaining, think it will pay off. Terrified and sorta sickened by ur Liverpool triple up, but it is worth it ha!

Yea Yea Yea whateva, or maybe you're just a poor typer.
Im really hoping that VDV does something this weekend, knowing the fact i got him and captaining him expect not much from him.... Cause my captaining never happens for me. It's really hard for me too, its VDV Ade or Silva in my opinion. But i think its worth going for VDV overall just because even if Adebayor scores a few then VDV will most likely get the assists and may score too!! It is the sensible choice, but then if everyone else is doing it you could get a good differential there, but it could backfire and leave you behind, depends whether ur a risk taker. I like VDV this weekend though. Depends who your friends have got in your league? Do they look like they would get VDV and captain him?

haha! yeah could be. im hoping he does something also even though i'm leaving him as vice cap, any points would be great.
Yeah i thought that it would have to had been from those 3 you were thinking of captaining, its worth the VDV way though, even if he doesn't score like you say he will have something to do with the creation of them, your luck with cap choices will change for sure.

Now see this is the problem, nobody will have torres in my league, NOBODY, for sure. however, a few may put VDV in this week and may very well cap him, however a lot of city lovers in my mini league so they'll go for aguero or silva, his is why its frustrating coz either one of torres or VDV pulls me back up there! im defo a risk taker though, i dont know why as i like to play safe a lot of the time, but captained gerrard last week and this week torres, if that is'nt taking risks i dunno what is haha!!

Bloody hope so dude, it's the worst I have ever had to do choice wise. Think I gotta start going with my gut more often but it doesn't matter too much for now.

Well you will have to hope that the city lovers players will only play for a while and get subbed off before 60 mins or may not even play! Then you will be quids in. I could see people getting in VDV in ur league, and captaining them or city players. Torres could give you a good difference and maybe pull you up the league if he kicks some ass. Well if you keep doing risks then it has to pay off sometime, luckily you kept up with them last week when you did it! I'm secretly hoping aguero doesnt play, only because i dont have him, bit jealous.

Yeah, going with the gut feels right, then if your wrong we can only blame ourselves and not anyone else for influencing choice etc. However, it is sometimes better to blame than realise our own wrong doings haha! Nah, own gut feeling wins every time, and feels much, much better when it comes off.
Yeah i know for a fact that a few lads will be capping silva and aguero, and rooney, to be honest aguero is the least city player im worried about scoring to be honest, i reckon mancini wont start him, and if city struggle, which i dont think they will, mancini will sub him on for last 20 mins or so, its balotelli and silva that grabs attention for me, but who knows, maybe the cc match midweek might of provided them with some insight on where to mark up better etc.
Im defo leaving my cap as torres now, finally decided, end of, leaving it as him ha! i just hope to god it doesnt backfire in my face. by the way ignore the points part above, didnt read that you said dont do it haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

Totally agree, that is gonna be the line up that interests me the most this weekend, wouldn't mind seeing some main players out, not being Kompany, and Silva ofc. is there a reason why you havent got any city players at all? Haha!! yeah just ignore that, lot of points for the takin though this weekend, could be way more.

oh yeah kompany and hi ho silva (another one! haha!) will play without a doubt, silva at least until the game is dead and buried then may get subbed, he's like the father figure of city now i feel, making sure his kids have won the game then he's done his job, and will stay on until the games done & won lol!

Hmmmm yeah i mentioned that i have no united or city coverage in my previous post somewhere, i realise this could be devastating, but i feel its strong without them at the moment, however if gerrard doesnt deliver up until after int.break then may ship him for silva, will be done at some point but giving gerrard my vote for now. rooney can come in for RVP when arsenals fixtures dry up, however i'll be reluctant to keep RVP as a season keeper, unsure as yet.

Yep, i shall cast a david luiz prayer for el nino tonight ha! He looks sharp, and will do the biz i hope.

I'd say Silva is guaranteed 6 points minimum, but may not get much more. Ade could end up with 2 points but has higher potential to get double figures.

So, Silva is safe option but Ade higher potential imo.

Should I do Suarez to Sturridge for a hit? If Suarez doesn't make it I've got Brunt (LIV) to come in.

It would also mean I'd have cash in the bank to get Van Persie in for his home game next week.

    Good move or not?

    RVP Ade Suarez

I made my transfer earlier on in the week bringing in Shawcross.
Currently have Silva as captain and Ade as vice but am worried that Silva will be rotated. Was thinking of bringing in Balotelli and making him capt for a four pt hit but dont know who to take out...

If you were going to bring in Balotelli it would have to be Suarez. but you need to cut costs somewhere to upgrade your midfield. You have 3 nonentities.

I wouldn't take anyone out for this week and keep it as it is mate. It's an alright team, would say like 7-7.5/10, your midfield players need strengthing some what, just due to the fact no one can rely on defense this season!

      Good luck this week!

I loved it last year when someone posted the hypothetical question about finding his laptop in a coffee shop with FPL page open. Would you scupper his chances of winning overall by doing a 64 point hit.
