After waiting all season to jump in the Rolls Royston, I had the Dutchman all written up as a Differential and the mouse hovering over the ‘confirm transfers’ button only for the inevitable red card to ruin my Everton-related Differential dreams.

Growing up as an Everton fan does prepare you somewhat for footballing disappointments, so despite having to throw that one back in the pond for another week, I managed to pick myself up in time to fish out another three for you to chew over. As we continue our countdown to Gameweek Ten then, it’s time to look over the Scout Selection Committee’s Differential picks for this week…..

James Milner

With such a rich source of midfield talent available, rest and rotation is a big problem to anyone considering investing in Man City, particularly with their Champions League involvement to factor in. Against all the odds, though, it is James Milner who looks the most rotation proof right now. Nothing is guaranteed where Roberto Mancini is involved of course, but Milner is the only attacking midfielder to have started all of the last three league matches, and as Samir Nasri and Adam Johnson both started in the Carling Cup tie on Wednesday, it’s pretty clear where he sits in the pecking order at present.

A look through the FPL statistics for the season throws up a lot of unexpected results; if you work it out on a ‘per minute played’ basis then Milner has a better EA PPI and overall points return than David Silva, and has also picked up more bonus points. Priced at just 7.5 to Silva’s 10.2 and owned by just 2.4%, Milner could prove to be a huge differential over the next few weeks then, and considering City’s goal scoring form, he looks like an excellent source of fantasy points.

Somen Tchoyi

After a poor start to the season, Roy Hodgson’s West Brom side have looked much improved in recent games and after two solid wins on the trot, they will be full of confidence going into their home tie against Liverpool.

Before last week Hodgson looked settled on a Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long front line, but with a knee injury set to keep Long out for 6 weeks, he will almost certainly draft in a ready-made replacement rather than try to change their formation. Somen Tchoyi is the obvious choice to replace him up front having already played there in pre-season, and priced at just 5.1 in the FPL game and classed as a midfielder, Tchoyi looks great value.

In many ways, Tchoyi is the definition of a differential. He’s cheap, has low ownership and as a midfielder playing out of position, he should provide excellent value for money over the short to medium term. Four home ties in next six, including games against the struggling Bolton and Wigan should more than make up for a tricky trip to Arsenal next week, so if you’re looking for a cheap fifth midfielder then Tchoyi looks as good an option as any right now.

Hugo Rodallega

If you take a look at the current league standings then you’d be forgiven for dismissing Wigan as a source of Fantasy points; they sit joint bottom of the league after six defeats on the trot, and have managed just six goals all season. Thankfully there’s more to it than that; the Latics have looked much improved in recent weeks, and will consider themselves very unlucky not to have picked up a result against Bolton or Newcastle.

Home ties against Fulham and Blackburn as well as a trip to Wolves in their next three should give then plenty of chances to pick up goals, and with the return to fitness of Hugo Rodallega they’ve finally got someone who can put the ball in the net.

With 11 attempts on target against Newcastle (that’s more than Man United, Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal last week) it seems incredible that they didn’t get more from that game. Although Rodallega didn’t get on the score sheet last week, he looked sharp in front of goal and gave Wigan an edge that they’ve been missing in recent games. Priced at just 6.0 and with an ownership of 1.9%, he could prove to a decent differential over the next few games.

Looking at Nasri > VDV; SWP > Milner; Bos > Wilkinson/N. Taylor (4 pointer). WCing next week, giving me:

    Vorm (Given)
Kompany; Wilkinson or N. Taylor; Woodgate (Simpson; Senderos)
    VDV (C); Milner; Larsson; Sinclair
    RVP; Rooney; Suarez

i currently have woodgate.. but my problem is i have gabbidon whos injured and is gonna drop in value according to totalfpl so i was looking for a replacement (who wont be playing most weeks) and wilkinson looks to be the sensible one with clean sheet potential, so that would make woodgate and wilkinson, and i have staylor which makes it more confusing

over the next few weeks (including current), adding Wilkinson and transferring out Woodgate (question of playing time and injury risk) could be a good plan

I've doubled up on both Stoke and Swansea defenders and it's paying off well so far.

Only problem is that I don't know (and neither does anyone else) whether Woodgate will play on Monday.

Just pretty much hoping he does, but if he doesn't then N. Taylor comes in. And he's not bad for a home cleanie either.

The thorn in my side is that I have M. Petrov who I obviuosly want to put one past Taylor and Vorm, but I think I can live with that.

Norwich haven't kept a clean sheet yet all season. Sunderland have only kept one clean sheet at home. Silva might well be rested. Dyer's an average 3 pointer at best, Gerrard still unproven this season, CHE v ARS could well be a turgid low scorer, Suarez doubtful with an ankle injury.

Still, Vorm and Kompany look pretty good 😉

Norwich...I know..but Blackburn at home..as good a chance as any. Plus the only other time I've played Tierney he got me a nice assist.
Silva...we're all in the same boat!
Dyer....c'mon, we all have a cheapy mid and he's home to Bolton.
Gerrard was awesome vs Norwich...I'm predicting great things from him in the next two.
Che/Ars will be high scoring IMO.
        Suarez will play.

ok dude, your eleven based on your side is right...and as for being 6th..ok let me explain something..i am currently first in my league with 500 points....i was 7th at a point of time..but i caught up cuz i do things that the others will never do...i am trying to say if u wanna catch them, u must think outside the box...however..watching your side...i only aguero if he plays to really help u out, so he shud be your captain but it's too risky..so ok, for now, to keep up with your league members, better match them but if u wanna try and close down the gap...think outside the box..do moves that u know they will never do

well yea, cuz it's very uncertain if he's going to play, but the thing is, every game that city has b4 a champs lge tie so far..he has started all those games...but played in the range of 60-80 mins, but to me if he plays, he shud score like twice..wolves *no offense to any wolves fans here*...are going to get at least 3-5 goals tomorrow, it's up to u if u believe aguero is going to play..if u do, well put him as capt., if u don't well just play is safe and go with VDV cuz even with my team..well hardly anyone in my league has VDV, i am putting him as capt.

hmmmm not sure about that. Wolves and QPR are tasty games for Aguero. Liverpool's aren't bad of course but they have no where near the same ability to destroy teams as Citeh do.

BasIcally if i can afford to do Rooney > Kun this week and Kun > Rooney next week only losing 0.2 on Rooney (both free also) is it worth it? I dont have any pressing issues with my team i feel and really cant see any worthwhile transfers next week. Team is currently:

    Begovic (Vorm)

    Enrique Naylor Kompany Bosingwa Simpson

    VdV Silva Petrov Moses Bannan

    Rooney Rvp Sturridge

Comments, help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ultimately its about points obviously. This week i reckon Aguero will get more points and next week Rooney. Surely losing 0.2 is secondary. Bannan would have been benched this week anyway and has Norwich (H) next week. Plus there aint many good choices around the 5-6m mark.

Don't know, I am not a big fan of chasing points specially with fixture proof players. Rooney and Kun are these type of players and they can score big at home and away. If you make the change it could back fire, I would just leave it as is with Rooney on your team. Your team is perfectly fine:

      Begovic
      Enrique, Naylor, Kompany
      VDV (c), Silva, Petrov, Moses
      Rooney, RVP, Sturridge

Your weakest link for this week is Petrov.

Come on Rafa, 80 minutes will do for me. I'm sure if he's on the pitch that long the returns will be good 😀

    Right... Bit of a predicament..

I feel I need VDV and I really want to get Adam Johnson, (have a hunch).

The only way I can accommodate them both is with a 12 point hit.

Walcott in for VDV should repay at least one of the hits.
Johnson in for Petrov should repay another.
Wilkinson in for Bosingwa would hopefully repay another.

Then the final one would be Bannan to a 4.4 mid or Adebayor to Agbonlahor or Sturridge?

    Thoughts/ have I gone mad?

Aguero or Balotelli plus cash for possible United coverage (Nani or Hernandez) next week? I'm not getting any feedback and I'm genuinely stumped.

I keep changing my mind, Aguero might well come off after 70 minutes and might have depleted time on the pitch in the coming weeks with CL rotation (not that he needs much time). Meanwhile I think Balotelli looks like he's being used in the league only, and he's on form. There's always that thought that he'll decide not to turn up or get sent off though.

have exactly the same dilema between aguero and balotelli, the cheaper option plus the cash for your utd trannys is very appealing, but of course ya point out aguero can score heavily, can balotelli not do that then seems to me hes makin a pretty good go of it......but for much less cash than the premium argentinian 🙂
