It has been brought to my attention of some ridiculous allegations concerning my celebration of one of my goals yesterday. It is totally ludicrous to suggest that my action of brushing my shoulder and pointing to my fans could be construed as anything else but of a showing of joy and celebration. To suggest this meant anything to the contrary is insulting and absolutely absurd as nothing else came into my mind.

Right, a quick Champions League update from the German-speaking world. After Bayern Munich had played a virtual reserve team in midweek for the 6-0 German Cup victory over second-division Ingolstadt, Jupp Heynckes selected a much stronger line-up yesterday for the home game against 1.FC Nuremberg. Three goals up in 39 minutes against weakened unadventurous opponents, Bayern comfortably saw out the match 4-0 (Gómez (2), Schweinsteiger, Ribéry) with 79% ball possession. Nothing that we didn't know about the Bavarians already.

Neuer - Rafinha, van Buyten, Badstuber, Lahm - Tymoshchuk, Schweinsteiger (71. Alaba) - T. Müller (77. Olić), Kroos (74. Luiz Gustavo), Ribéry - Gómez

And there was nothing that we didn't already know about Borussia Dortmund in their 1-1 draw at VfB Stuttgart either. Dortmund were well on top throughout, but again missed a hatful of chances (Lewandowski, Götze once more) and ended up with a point in a game that they should have won. Possibly their best performance of the season, but they're falling further behind Bayern. Nice to see the more attcking Perišić play from the start over Großkreutz. Sven Bender looks likely to miss the Olympiakos match after being replaced at half-time with a knock to his foot - if so, Leitner or Gündogan would replace him in defensive midfield.

Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Subotić, Hummels, Schmelzer - S. Bender (46. Leitner), Kehl - M. Götze, Kagawa, Perišić (76. Großkreutz) - Lewandowski (72. Barrios)

Bayer 04 Leverkusen won 1-0 at bottom club SC Freiburg on Saturday to move up to eighth. This was thanks to a second-minute goal by Michael Ballack, who was playing in a much more advanced role in central midfield and was also named captain. Derdiyok and Castro were recalled in place of Kießling and Rolfes. After this early goal, Bayer unaccountably put the shutters up, and only got away with it due to the weakness of the Freiburg attack. Might they have been practising this tactic for their key Champions League match in Valencia on Tuesday?

I still don't rate Leverkusen at all as an attacking unit, and rumblings about the future of coach Robin Dutt continue. Poor signings over the summer (no real replacements defensively for Hyypiä and Vidal) and, Ballack aside, a lack of leadership players are Bayer's main problems.

Leverkusen: Leno - Schwaab, M. Friedrich, Toprak, Kadlec - L. Bender, Castro - Sam, Ballack (65. Rolfes), Schürrle (83. Reinartz) - Derdiyok (74. Kießling)

FC Basel went back on top of the Swiss Super League with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Grasshoppers Zürich (watched by Roger Federer). Once again, it was Xherdan Shaqiri who looked the most impressive, scoring a great free-kick and generally running the show until he was substituted on 69 minutes to save himself for the Champions League. Other goals came from Andrist, Alex Frei and Stephan Frei, with the hard-working Streller chipping in with another assist. Still don't rate Basel's defence much, but they're creating chances at will.

Basel: Sommer; Steinhöfer, Abraham, Dragovic, Park; Shaqiri (69. Zoua), Fabian Frei, Granit Xhaka (61. Chipperfield), Andrist; Streller (80. Taulant Xhaka), Alex Frei.

  * Erm.. the Basel goalscorer should obviously be Fabian Frei, not Stephan Frei, who is a bloke with whom I used to work. Can't imagine Stephan scoring in the Swiss Super League somehow, unless they suddenly awarded points for beer-drinking and badly-dyed hair.

    Think Cech is obviously the best keeper in the Premiership and has been for years. He had an off day yesterday but to be fair the goals weren't down to him. Don't rate Hart at all. He is the only England player that wouldn't get into the Scottish national team.

Dear Gods of Fantasy Football,
I know I've asked quite a lot recently. If you could see your way clear to give Stoke a Clean Sheet tomorrow, with a Shawcross goal, half a dozen saves for your most obiedient servant Bego, and maybe an assist ( I realise the assist may be seen as taking the P a bit) so forget that bit (unless you want to).
It would help a lot of my teams enormously, and take some of the stress off. As you know I have as dedicated a follower as you could wish for for some years now, and lets be fair, you gave my captain choices and my teams in general a pretty torrid time last season ( not that I'm complaining you understand) and having been so true to the craft of FF and having paid for membership of FFScout, yet never having availed myself of the temptations of the member's area. I have hoped you may cut me a bit of slack this season.....

  Either way mate your doing amazingly well, hell i'd be over the moon and just cracking in the top 100,00 at the moment, however i did finish in top 100k last season. Still early days though i guess, however i do hope the gods are with you tomorrow, i need walters to do well to pull me into 60+ pts 🙂

  Having my best season ever by a country mile. Strategies that have worked for me so far this year:
  Make transfers as soon as you can each GW
  Have a decent bench - at least regular starters
  One transfer per week (but played my WC GW6)
  Form for forwards, fixtures/value for defenders, mix for mid
  Put your money where the high scores are (forwards, mid)
  Always 3 up front but switch between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 for fixtures
  Leave Vorm in goals regardless with a bum sub
  Pay attention to the captain's poll unless it looks completely stupid
  Forget who you support
  Forget who looks good during the games - only points matter
  Watch who the overall leaders are going for
  
  If you're good don't listen to me but if you are down in the 1.5 millions in the rankings this may help you climb out of it
