In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

thing is you can't swap for dzeko cos mancini might just start benching him instead. Which is a shame as i think Dzeko is probably the best option.

Showed some great dribbling both along the flanks and cutting, but also lose the ball couple of time coz he was trying to take on 3+ players. Good thing is he is on the attacking half most of the time, so he will be leading Everton's attack creating chances/score goal for the games to come...at least that what I was hoping for when I bought him in!! 😉

In the same boat, was just looking at Bos for Phil Jones (or possibly Kompany).

That said, midfielder's prices seem to change a lot quicker than defenders - I remember when Nasri and Silva were level pegging [sighs over very bad call to stick with differential] so maybe that should speed the Petrov switch?
If so, Walters and Sinclair are both looking pretty consistent point scorers in that price bracket then there's the likes of Sessegnon and Brunt who both offer attacking potential (although in teams that are struggling) or how about Drenthe for an outside bet - looking like Everton's most potent point scorer at the moment (not that this is saying much!) I guess it depends who you already have.

Went for Drenthe, yes an outside bet but if it pays off it will pay off big and they have a great fixture list. Next choice was Sessegnon, they haven't had a great run of fixtures. Ditched sinclair because of bad fixtures and wanted Ramsey, I get the feeling his time is up.

The main differential between now and Chrimbo will be Lampard, mark my words... he'll be the leading points scorer in the game by the end of the year. With some great budget options around, it should be pretty easily to get him in with a bit of juggling.

I reckon one of the City forwards or RVP will be leading points scorers by the end of the year.

Too much rotation at City for that I'd say. Only thing that'll get in RVP's way is injury (which is let's face it, not unlikely).

Lampard is a good shout, but he's soooo expensive so I can't see it being that easy to 'juggle' in if you also want the likes of VdV, RVP and Silva and let's face it Chelsea are looking decidedly average otherwise - I finally lost patience with Sturridge (sadly not before today's transfer deadline)

I'm not sure. Even with rotation the City lads are performing strong. I agree with the RVP point, poor lad has Wenger Glass Ankle Syndrome. It's possibly in the water supply at Arsenal. I'm not sold on Lamps being the highest scorer. He is very expensive too, right now I just cant justify spending all that money. Hard luck on the Sturridge one, I'm waiting to see if Balotelli is going to make an appearance.

He's soo bloody expensive though..... Unless you sacrifice forward strength you will need to choose between him and either Silva/VdV. I'm waiting until he's an absolute must before I do anything, and that may not happen

I like your thinking but for me other man in the equation is Rooney - I have him and RVP with Sturridge as my Chelsea cover... with Silva & VDV as well I currently have all my bases covered. the only player I'd like to introduce is Adam. Difficult to fit in Frank and the the funds in my fwds to bring in the likes of Carrol & Aguero as and when.

If it officially goes down as a Wes Brown own goal, then it should be a welbeck assist. Welbeck definitely headed nani's cross before it went in off of Brown.
