In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Rooney will be playing up front in two weeks. I don't think this is the time to get rid.. You never know with Hernandez. Might be rotation risk as well. Rooney is nailed on, and on free kicks and penalties. When he gets back as striker I think Man utd will start scoring goals. Anderson, Cleverly and maybe Carrick will be back in two weeks.

    balotelli, rvp, best

im basically thinking either balotrelli out for possibly adebayor or dzeko but seems a bit of a sideways move or take out best and put in yakubu who will score goals thorugh the next games... blackburn are bad but seem to score a few goals.

Hehehehe SUAREZ!! I chucked a tantrum at him when I captained him in the home game against Norwich and he returned me 4 - potatoes, I had enough and dumped him. Its turned out to be a good move, thus far.... That said, he will start scoring sooner or later... I just can;t be bothered waiting.

They have changed them, that's why it is an assist. Otherwise it's too subjective. How much of a touch do you need for an assist?

Evening fellas. I guess this has been discussed plenty of times today but I didn't watch the game and you might know better now you've watched that Match of the Day show or whatever it's called, so bear with me.

Is the Nani assist correctly his? On the replay I saw it didn't look like Welbeck touched it.

Nani assist looks ok to me, don't think Wellbeck got a touch.

The camera angles weren't great, but don't think Welbeck touched it Garg. Should stay a Nani assist I think.

Definitely a Nani assist. Just seen it. Not even a semi-skimmed job.

Pulis will check on the progress of captain Ryan Shawcross and full back Marc Wilson in their recovery from muscular injuries, although they may well need until after the two-week international break to regain full fitness.

What does that have to do with anything? Going around saying stuff like "Shawcross is definitely out tomorrow!!!" Very helpful

Did that really bother you? If you already knew about that, others might have never come across it as of yet, myself included. So, yes. Very helpful.

Nani looked back like his old self. Wouldn't invest, but one to keep patient with?

I still see Jones as a rotation risk. He'll play for sure, but they'll be several occasions where he's unexpectedly rested.

Sun fixtures too good to ignore. The Bendy Bus now has the bonus of penalties and the key is in the ignition...

Larsson, when back, and Sess are viable options too.

Welbeck, Chico, Dzeko - worth the rotation headache?

I am considering Agbon to Bendtner, but Bendtner didn't look as dangerous as I would like, in the MU game....

Anyone know anything on Bradley Johnson? Just signed him last week and he only got me 1 point 🙁 had high hopes of him.

It's all very well people telling others to wait before making transfers as it's an international break and players will get injured, but it's not always an option.
Players with Rooney, Bosingwa, Suarez, Aguero, Sturridge and without Vorm, Dzeko, RVP, Pilkington, Lampard, Agbonlahor could see massive swings in price if left too long.

You need to play it by ear and keep a close eye... that simple really.

But I often prefer paying .1 more for a player and waiting a week.

Strange for Manx to do that type of “celebration” before the match???

Then former foes Bruce does SAF a favour and plays the usual “roll over and feck me” football and up pops Wes “i’m always good for an OG” Brown with a gift of his own to thank SAF for the years he spent doing nothing yet collecting medals each year.

cynic……well Phil Neville scored an OG aswell v Manx – it must be in the contract!
