In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Given/Ruddy
    Jones/Enrique/S Taylor/R Taylor/Brown
    Silva/Mata/Adam/Sinclair/B Johnson
    Van Persie/Adebayor/Agbonlahor

2 free transfers and 1m in the bank.

Thinking of losing 2 of Given, R Taylor, Adam and Agbonlahor, but not sure which.

Got Stoke, Everton, WBA and Sunderland players in mind to replace...possibly Wilkinson for Taylor and Brunt/Drenthe/Sessegnon for Adam.

Would give me over £4m in the bank to upgrade in the weeks after.

Any of you watched the series of 'An Idiot Abroad'?

it's a strange one because some episodes I almost laughed my insides out (such as the snow episode and the polar bears) but thought the last couple were 'ok but wouldn't watch again' type.

I'd watch a 3rd episode but think they need to do something different.

      Hernandez + Drenthe/Sessegnon easily.

Hard pressed to think of any midfielders between 6.5-10m worth the extra cash. And Hernandez looks a good shout with the fixtures in front.

Plus, its all about RvP for Arsenal. Gervinho with the odd goal assist maybe, but Dzeko/Adebayor/Bendtner/Ba offer similar value imo.

I doubt we'll see Rooney in midfield again once Cleverley and Anderson are both fit, so Hernandez and Welback are battling for the 1 spot.

Better combo? Don't know who you've got already, you do the work and we'll just criticise 😉

Al Habsi and Ruddy is a bit weak, but like you say there's not much about with decent fixtures unless I go up to 5.5 for someone like Howard or Friedel - but then I'd rather spend that on an Eve or Spurs def.

True, but they've kept 2 clean sheets between them all season - rotation's no good if neither of them play for teams that can defend.

Going to stick with Rooney for now personally. If I didn't have RVP as well it'd be a different story, but City have a tough period with a big CL game coming, Suarez isn't scoring consistently...really the only way I'd get rid of him would be to accomodate Nani, perhaps by getting Sturridge in. But even he isn't wholly convincing.

        Yes till GW21 (January)

        GW12 is trouble - QPR - H or WOL - H. GW21 - Liverpool and Villa - A.

Howard and Vorm is a bit iffy, some weeks both home, some both away.

So Hernandez has played 300+ less minutes and only real difference is 1 assist (which was from Suarez getting taken down in the box) plus Hernandez more likely for bonus it seems.
Only downside is he could be a slight rotation risk, but we dont really know until him and others stay fit for a while.
Think he will be worth it with these fixtures though.

Given/Vorm is a a pain in ass. What are people with this combo doing. Team linked, options are:

1 - Stick and Play Vorm vs United (take out De Laet or Cabaye)
    2 - Free transfer Given to Begovic/Ruddy/Westwood
    3 - Take a -4 for De Gea.

      1 - Possibly a go.
2 - Have Bego/Vorm myself and has served me well most weeks (they don't rotate perfectly though).
3 - Read the post you're commenting on. It specifically says that De Gea is a rotation risk 😛

De Gea was a part of my 2 week master plan now that is down the shitter. De Gea would allow me to stop rotating GKs. All of Vorm's clean sheets have been on my bench - rotating keepers hasnt worked for me. I played Hart all season last year.

I might be alone here, but I'd sooner there be no wild cards.

3 seasons in a row I do better without a WC than with one. I guess for entertainment value and to keep people interested I can understand why they have made 2, but myself... I'd be happy with 0 Wildcards at all.

      Given (Ruddy)
      Richards Enrique Simpson Naylor Brown
      Silva Nani Ramsey VDV Dyer
      Adebayor Rooney Agbonlahor

Think I need to change my goalkeepers, want to get Kompany/Jones in, and maybe a stoke defender.

If you want Jones then a Nani downgrade is best option - Walters, Drenthe etc. Use the cash to upgrade GK or defence. I would keep Agbonlahor. Adebayor could go as you have VDV. I think a -4 is a good option instead of the WC.

Ye I do. I've reached the end of my tether with Ade anyway, I want rid, he was abysmal vs QPR.

Fair call, go for it then I reckon.

2/3 are definite upgrades and Ade->Bendy could well be evens.

All 5 of your defenders are at home GW12. GW13 might not be good.

On Arsenal's form and their easier fixtures coming up, I think Ramsey is needed! Depends whether you have RVP already?

I've had the man for four weeks 😀 saved my squad every gameweek.

If you got RVP then he will be stealing the lime light, wouldn't bother with that much coverage of Arsenal. Would go with Drenthe due to his easy fixtures and Everton are probably gonna start playing soon.

      Tough one.
Ramsey or Drenthe, toss a coin.

I'm thinking Drenthe.....plus it leaves me with cash to spare. Thinking of upgrading Sess to Larsson later.

Drenthe or Ramsey (whose been playing out of his skin but not repaing the rewards just yet).

I have got Walters and maybe priced out of Ramsey due to other concerns. For me it is Drenthe/Sess cos of money. If money wasnt option then Ramsey - irrelevant if you have RVP IMO.

Anybody worrying about bradley johnson injury it was due to a clash of heads with N'Zogbia so he should be ok for next gameweek.

    What do you think ?

    Vorm

    walker , boswinga , warnock

    ramsey , silva , vdv , nani

    rvp , suarez , sturridge

ruddy , taylor , de leat , dyer

Have 2 free transfers ....but thinking a 4 point hit for as defence needs treatment-
    boswinga , suarez , warnock - baines , santos , bendtner

I think that is too much in DF. Santos or Jones could be worth it, but not Baines.
