In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Cant believe people are keeping faith with Rooney , financially its a disaster, dropping like a stone , so what if he does score a goal or two , its hardly going to make up for it , especially as all that money tied up in him would garner more points elsewhere.

    Its not as if you cn even consider him for captain anymore , theres no way of knowing what position , or psychological state he kis in from one game to the next.

    12million , for an out of position striker , who is a send of accident waiting to happen.

    YEAH RIGHT !!

      Possibly Messi aside, Rooney is the greatest player alive, he's in a different league to everyone else. Do NOT sell. This midfield thing is "temporary" - Utd are practically empty in that position with so many injuries at present.

      His class will, once again, come to the fore soon enough and all those who did sell will regret it vehemently.

              To claim Robin van Persie is better than Rooney says all there is to know about you, really. Even the most ardent van Persie fan cannot genuinely believe that he is.

              Xavi is a genius, but doesn't play in the same position as Rooney. Nobody on that list is better than Rooney.

              Ronaldo is the only one who comes close.

                RVP is single-handedly carrying us and has scored what? 29 goals in his last 28 PL games?
                To say that Xavi isn't better because he plays a different position is stupid.

                  Last season in the league Rooney made
                  28 appearances in the league for 11 goals and 5 yellow cards

                  No great , i think most would agree , especially when playing for a quality team , dishing up chance after chance.

                  He had a good start this season (probably because of his hair transplant)
                  but has lately started to resemble the Rooney of last season.

              Rooney was never a consistent performer, and will never be one in the future. I doubt he is even in the top 10! Unfortunately, he is the main man in a MU shirt. FPL appeal towards him is inevitable.

        Rooney is an amazing talent, but the time to sell him was weeks ago, and holding on to him is a waste of your cash. When he starts scoring again yeah you'll get points but everyone else will be scoring from either RVP, Silva, or VdV anyway.. whoever is hot at the time. I sold him for 12.2 (valued at 12.4 at the time) and right now he's 12.1, and his value is only going to go up when he starts scoring. I fail to see how keeping him is a good idea no matter what happens, when my replacement for him has gone up 0.6 in value since I bought him and has propelled me to the top of all my leagues. Rethink your strategy man

        Hernandez possibly a better bet in the short term , although he too is comparatively expensive (when compared with last season) , the entire team seems to be down on confidence.
        Dare say they will recover soon enough , especially when Young returns ,
        Might be better to go with a defender and Nani/Young until they return to form.

          He's a predictable one trick pony that's finally getting found out now that he's at a big club.

          RE Hernandez. I think he's a really good shout and the obvious choice for anyone considering jumping ship from the likes of Suarez or others in that price range.

    Vincent Kompany vs Micah Richards.
    The stats;
    Kompany;
    883 minutes, 40 points
    1 goal, 0 assists, 4 BP's
    PPI = 193
    Ownership 20.6%
    Richards;
    812 minutes, 40 points
    0 goals, 4 assists, 1 BP
    PPI = 146
    Ownership 14.4%
    - Kompany more nailed on with 10 out of 10 starts, Richards with 9 of 11.
    - Richards much more attacking threat and plays far forward, which may edge it with the way City are playing this year.
    I know Kompany seems a slightly better option, but I think i'd rather Richards for a more exciting player, is that stupid?

    Why doesn't Rosicky get a game for Arsenal? He's technically strong, pulls the strings whenever he does play (for club and country), and he's creative.

    I'd drop Arteta and have Tomas in there.

    I need Shawcross to play - even if it is for a 1 minute one pointer. No Bosingwa and Kompany means if he doesn't play Pilkington can't come on and bring his handy points to me!

        See, I want him to miss - grab NTaylor's 5 points from the bench if ShawX doesn't play.

          I'm less worried now I realised I will get the Pilky points off the bench. I suspect ShawX won't play, which adds to my original thinking of wildcarding this GW.

          Probably could do with rearranging my keepers, maybe Ramsey->Drenthe. Maybe time to lose patience with Suarez too. Kompany and Bosingwa could be on the chopping board.

            About to log off, so quickly:

            Your midfield is fine, fix your keepers as a priority, no clear replacement for Suarez (maybe hold off until Newcastle's fixtures improve and grab Ba then), Kompany is a season keeper, ditch Bos before his price falls off a cliff.

            Think that was everything 🙂

              Does make sense - spread the price range in the forwards to help with flexibility. I will have to mull the WC over the next day or so. Thanks.

              Given->Vorm
              Bosingwa->P.Jones
              Dyer->Drenthe
              Suarez->Ba

              could be the go. (and possibly Ruddy->keeper that rotates well with Vorm)

    I'm quite disappointed with my selection of DF. It's my obvious weakness. Could you have a look at this Gk/DF and share me some opinions please?

    Vorm Krul. >> bad fixtures coming, but I think I would keep them.

    Simpson - N.Taylor - Richards - Brown - Evans. >> I think I could keep the first two for season. But, what's about the others... Evans didn't play last night. 🙁

    Which DF should be a good to invest for next 5-10 games?

    Wilkinson? Jagielka? McAurely? Walker? Boyata? Help needed please.

      I think Richards is still a season keeper. How many teams are better bets for a CS than City? Maybe Stoke and Swansea at home... no one else is keeping them consistently.

      I'd recommend grabbing Wilkinson, cheap way into a strong defence.

      If you want a United defender, go for Jones, he seems pretty locked in.

      Keep Brown for now, Sunderland's next 3 fixtures are strong.

      Thanks all. City can't keep CS lately but Richards effectively plays like MF. I think it's worth to keep him until "too much" rotation affects his game time. It was my plan to get Wilko but Stoke will have only two potential home games over the next six and that made me hesitated. Everton's fixtures look tempted, btw.

              Rooney is potentially the 2nd best player in the world, he's just psychologically a mess and if he's not 100% physically nothing happens. When he's on form Messi is better and that's about it. Certainly better than RVP, who is on fire right now but doesn't have the broad spectrum of skills that rooney has, and is similarly prone to periods of doing shag all. But it's obviously subjective, I mean if you just look at skill, dribbling, goal scoring you would say Roy Keane was a crap player. I prefer to look at what they contribute all over the pitch.

          Depends on the rest of your team (i.e., if you have vdV, I'd be less likely to want Adebayor, etc).

          Sturridge? Decent option.

          Personally though, I'd try to squeeze Rooney in somehow.

              Don't rate Bendtner at all. Dreadful player.

              I think you've maybe missed the boat with van der Vaart now - I got him in at £9.7m, he's now £10.5m(?). He will probably get injured soon.

              Modric needs to go though - Bale, for about the same price, is a much bigger attacking threat.

              Hmm. If I were in your position, I'd probably get Rooney in for Torres and downgrade Modric to Moses.

              But if you do want a Bendtner-type forward... Hoilett is similarly priced and I'd prefer him before ther big, useless Dane.

                Torres for Rooney?? Come on don't try and sabotage the poor guy's team! That's just swapping in a no scorer for a no scorer. The only reason anyone has either of them in is because (a) They're a Liverpool supporter that overrates Torres, (b) They're a United supporter that can't accept that Rooney's not scoring right now, or (c) They have not been logging into FPL since the first few weeks

      Cheers lads.

      Just got in Walters. I have a feeling he is a season keeper.

      Getting rid of Woodgate after Stoke's fine run.

      Simpson is too cheap a player to shift out just because the fixtures get bad.

      Have been looking to get rid of NDyer or Moses, as they are both "5th mid" material. Not room for both of them.

      I think Rooney is the first one out though. He will obviously score even though he is been put back in midfield, but he will not be worth 12m.

    How's this for transfer beauty (in 2 weeks, of course, barring injuries blah blah blah)

    Simply Suarez to Bendtner. So much cleaner than the -4 and -8pt monster trades I've been playing with, and I'll probably also get to work P.Jones in.

    Team Currently:

    Vorm/Krul
    Enrique, Shawcross, Wilkinson, Barnett Simpson
    VDV, Silva, Nani, Ramsey, B.Johnson
    RVP, Suarez, Sturridge

        I just think its a good time to play his fixtures. The top teams all play each other (a few times over) in the next few weeks, and those games are so hard to predict -- no decision is clear to me. Sunderland really do have the best fixtures, and Bendtner can score goals.
