Our rundown of yesterday’s three fixtures sees plenty of mid-price midfield options stand out amongst others. Jamie O’Hara leads Wolves to a vital win despite the efforts of Ali Al-Habsi, Stoke endure a Euro hangover thanks to Chris Eagles and Ivan Klasnic, while Gareth Bale hints at a new-found consistency with another double figure return.

Jamie O’Hara
A goal, two assists and 3 bonus points helped the Wolves midfielder to a 15 point Fantasy haul this weekend. The recent Carling Cup tie with Man City inclusive, O’Hara has now scored in the last three home games in a row for Mick McCarthy’s side. With Steven Fletcher injured, Big Mick has been playing a 4-5-1 and has moved O’Hara into a more advanced position, with the former Tottenham player tucking in just behind Kevin Doyle- yesterday it paid dividend and may give McCarthy food for thought when Fletcher returns to action.

Stephen Ward
The Wolves left-back grabbed his second goal of the season yesterday, netting for the first time since the opener at Blackburn. An ever-present in the Wolves side, Ward is second only to John Terry when it comes to goalscoring defenders and is the best “value” outfield player of any at the Midlands club, returning 41 points to date from a price of 4.6.

Ben Watson
While Victor Moses and Hugo Rodallega conspire to miss chance after chance for the Latics, Watson continues to be their main source of attacking points. With 2 goals and 2 assists to his name, the midfielder has played a part in 4 of the 7 goals his side have scored this season. His spot-kick duties undoubtedly help, though Watson was rather fortunate to slot home a rebound after Wayne Hennessey had saved his initial effort.

Ali Al-Habsi
Though his heroics between the sticks failed to prevent Wigan from slipping to their eighth straight defeat, Al Habsi is still, nevertheless, picking up the Fantasy points. His 7 saves at Molineux was indicative of his performances and with 45 points on the board, despite no clean sheets since gameweek three, is joint-second top goalkeeper so far- only Michel Vorm has returned more.

Gareth Bale
So often a source of frustration for Fantasy managers, Bale’s goal, assist and maximum bonus points in the 3-1 win at Fulham is the third time in six matches he has returned double figure hauls. The Welshman has been upping his game of late but mainly due to the performances of Rafael Van der Vaart, has been cruising along nicely without hogging the headlines. Bale has now bagged 4 goals this season, just 2 less than Van der Vaart and has returned only 12 points less overall. With Spurs still facing a favourable run of fixtures, he could be in for plenty investment over the next few weeks- already he has been transferred in by over 24,000 Fantasy managers ahead of gameweek twelve, more than any midfielder.

Aaron Lennon
Having been out of action for a couple of months with a groin problem, Lennon returned in gameweek nine and has stepped up in the last couple of matches. Yesterday’s 12 point Fantasy haul at the Cottage means Lennon has grabbed a goal, 3 assists and 3 bonus points in his last two games, outscoring Rafael Van der Vaart by 21 to 12. He could prove to be a decent differential over the next few gameweeks- owned by just 1.6% of Fantasy managers and priced at 7.2, he’s looking nailed-on form a right wing spot in an on-song Tottenham team.

Ivan Klasnic
A return to the Bolton starting lineup saw Klasnic serve a reminder of his early-season potential. His brace in yesterday’s 5-0 romp over Stoke means he has returned 5 goals and 3 assists from the six games he has started for the Trotters, netting against the likes of Man City and Liverpool, and surely secures his place in the first XI ahead of a trip to West Brom in gameweek twelve. With home showdowns against Everton and Aston Villa to follow, albeit with a visit to Spurs sandwiched in between, Klasnic is not too bad a punt at just 5.8.

David Wheater
The centre-half seems to have established himself at the expense of Zat Knight in the Bolton back line in recent weeks. At just 4.4, Wheater- one of our featured defenders in the “Building a Budget Defence” Members article- grabbed an assist, clean sheet and single bonus point against Stoke yesterday. Wheater has returned 13 Fantasy points in his last four starts now- compare this to 5.3 Gary Cahill, who has returned the same tally over his last ten starts.

Chris Eagles
With Martin Petrov another Bolton player who has seemingly fallen from favour, Eagles is stepping up as the main midfield source of points for Owen Coyle’s side. His 2 goals, clean sheet and 2 bonus points led to 15 points against Stoke- this was his second double figure haul in the last four gameweeks- indeed, Eagles has returned 35 points over those four weeks, with the likes of David Silva picking up 26 points over the same period. Whenever Bolton have won a game, Eagles has played a significant part; the Trotters have recorded three victories and Eagles has scored (9, 13, 15) in each of those respective triumphs.

To many mistakes made this weekend! Demba Ba is given assist for nothing, v.Persie didn´t get 2 assists thought he clearly did. Holt gets 2 assist, which is funny because first goal came from direct freekick. Nani is given Welbecks assist. Bale get a goal that is clearly an own goal by fulham defender. To many mistakes, like mine to transfer in Larsson last saturday only to find out he is suspended for next gameweek 😀

gervhino was judged to touch that rvp cross
if you win the freekick that results in a goal, i think you get assist?
wellbeck judged not to touch nanis cross
bales shot was on target, thus its not an own goal

Sorry they changed the rule from last year so Holts assists are right, but defender touched v.Persie ball not Gervinho, Bales cross would have ended up in throw in if nobody had touched it, Ba assist is something you can´t argue about is wrong. Wellbeck is something that could have gone either to him or Nani, not sure my self.

However, he's in a deeper, more creative role that suits him.

I think Drenthe, Bendtner is best for Sun and Ev coverage. Superb fixtures.

Walters is still a good option too.

Brunt and Ramsey aren't to be sniffed at.

But that's the only thing that interested me.

Utd cover comes down to one of Rooney, Chico or Nani. I really think it's not needed at the moment, particularly for the next two. Newcastle and Swansea away will be tough. People get sidetracked by that vibrant blue on the ticker.

Hi guys thinking of playing WC this week - keen to try a something a bit different (Milner, Verminator) to try and close the gap on league leaders. What do you reckon?

    Hindegaard, Vorm
    Jones, Simpson, Vermaelen, Enrique, Caulker
    Milner, Eagles, Walters, Silva, VDV
    Adebayor, Bendtner, RVP

Yep wc team - havne't played it yet though. I've got Dyer/Moses/Given and I never seem to be able to transfer them out and I think they're holding me back.

I can't afford any! Would be keen for Brown but it would mean having to get rid of Simpson or Enrique (Caulker just there to free up cash).

I could maybe do Bendtner -> Dzeko, Milner -> Pilkington, Caulker -> Brown, Hinde -> Ruddy.

Thoughts on a goalkeeper? I'm shipping Given out this week, and currently have Vorm as my second one. Looking for a cheapish goalkeeper for the next 2 months, before I can WC.

Already have QPR, Stoke and Newcastle in my defense, and not really looking to double up.

    Thanks!

Great option, but he doesn't rotate and Turner is cheaper coverage who you can play as of when.

Westwood v Vorm each week will provide a headache.

predictions on the three biggest FPL fails come season-end? You could have your own meaning for "fail".

for me "fail" = terrible returns for a player with high expectations at the start/mid of the season.

    1) Carroll
    2) Suarez
    3) Downing

    Yes. 3 Pool players 😛

Please don't flame - haven't had a chance to read all the comments made to date, I know there's been a hell of a furore around the RVP and Nani 'assists' and both were subject to detailed review, but was there any specific review of the Bale goal/Baird og other than that which presumably happened at the time?

I've got no particular problem with it being Bale's goal (doesn't directly affect me) but there seems to be a not insignficant number who believe it should be an og so I just wondered whether this had been subject to the same forensic analysis using Hawkeye, Hotspot, satellite imagery, etc. as the other incidents? If not, why not?

    Just asking 😉

Fair enough, I've only seen the goal from one angle so far so haven't had the chance to form my own judgment, I've just seen a fair few comments claiming it as a 'clear' og and wondered whether it had been subjecct to scrutiny or not.

I had RVP(c) too and can't say I'm overly pleased with the decision (albeit I accept a decision had to be made and if the situation were reversed I'd be delighted!)

I think the conclusion to be drawn from the whole thing is that the new assist system has in no way clarified matters or reduced controversy. Much like the baps!

Arsenal defence has tightened up a lot and he looks solid. Will probably have a good partnership alongside Mertesacker over the next GWs. Arsenal are ironically looking like one of the better defences now, while I wouldn't get any other Arsenal defender his goals really make him worthwhile. It's hard for me to decide between him and Jones.

Luxury player. Nice to have, but they'll come a time when you can't afford a big hitter and the only way is by using a transfer to downgrade him. He's also injury prone.

Lads, just transferred in Wilkinson for my 1 free tranny this week....should I be worried about his substitution in the 60min? Not a surefire starter on the RB anymore?"

I think Woodgate also had a shocker, and more broadly the whole defence. Wouldn't panic about Wilko just yet, I have him and am fairly sure he will get decent play with a number of injured Stoke defenders.

He was one of the few to play Newc and in Europa so he was probably rested. 4 for a Stoke defender is an absolute bargain.

Only Huth is in contention for that RB role and so Wilkinson should be reinstated. I wouldn't be surprised if Huth was kept on for his goal threat.

Gambled on M Petrov (had a feeling Stoke would get trashed yesterday) and failed.

    Who should I remove first?

too much everton. maybe leave drenthe in but the other 2 can go for me.
Dont like Yaya as he is normally v deep, would want silva or aguero as City cover.
I would avoid Arsenal defenders too.
I would get in at least one bargain basement mid as you wont play 5 very often so one will be on bench.
anyways some thoughts there for u....

Your midfield is too expensive, and your front line not enough, imo. Hibbert is dreadful, Jenkinson a rotation risk.

    Mark or Granville,

Is it not possible to use your contacts to find out exactly what evidence the reviewers saw to reverse the RVP assist. People would find it easier to accept and we can draw a line under it and move on. Thanks.

The review was done by the Press Association - presumably they saw the touch as one made by Gervinho. I can try to find out what steps they took etc but I can't promise anything.

As I've mentioned before, Opta also gave the assist to Gervinho so, it's hard to argue. Opta made their decision on Saturday evening and they have software and a team that allows them to examine every incident in detail. Believe me, they don't make their decisions lightly - they provide data for Sky Sports, countless publications and other Fantasy games.

When both Opta and PA award the assist to Gervinho, I think we're getting to the point where we have to accept that he got the touch and it's his assist.

I'm just left scratching my head why anyone is bothering to talk about RVP's assist - and I had RVP (C), so yes I know how it feels.

      A) We have no power whatsoever over the decision.
      B) It's 6 points out of a season when you should be aiming for over 2000.
      C) He got a goal, another assist and 2 bonus for crying out loud!

      D) *sigh* It was the right decision. Even a crude video off a crap site can show that, and they've got much better video. Start at 1:33 here. http://www.goal100.com/premierleague.php?subaction=showfull&id=1320508458&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&
1:43 to 1:47 - view from in front of the goal lets you see who touched the ball. Go frame by frame using the pause key. Around 1:45 Gervinho touches the ball with his right heel.
