Our Watchlist rankings have recently been updated and are available for your consideration in the sidebar. Read on for details of this week’s talking points, as Steve Bruce’s Sunderland emerge as an unlikely source of talent at both ends of the park…

Michel Vorm’s Anfield heroics see him restored to top spot in our goalkeeper rankings. While Man United visit the Liberty Stadium in gameweek 12, that’s the first of three home games in four for the Swans, with Villa and Fulham surrounding an away trip to Ewood Park. Still available for 4.5 and 10 points ahead of Pepe Reina at the top of the FPL scoring charts, the Dutchman remains strong value and is surely set to build on his 23% ownership over the international break.

While Swansea’s back four- having conceded just a single goal at home- continue to offer value, the Sunderland defence also has fixtures to make them an intriguing option. Kieren Westwood comes into our thinking now. With Simon Mignolet facing a lengthy spell out with a damaged eye socket, the former Coventry stopper will be between the sticks for three home encounters in four. The Black Cats provided a stubborn obstacle for United at Old Trafford and, with John O’Shea potentially returning to bolster Steve Bruce’s rearguard, the chances of a couple of clean sheets in the next month look good. Certainly at 4.4, Westwood offers value to rival Vorm.

Sunderland’s potential is represented by Wes Brown within our defender rankings – the former United man takes his place in our top five, sitting under Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson, with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Leighton Baines of Everton. That pairing come from nowhere to top our rankings, with strong fixtures and a substantial attacking threat in their locker.

Vermaelen demonstrated his worth in the 3-0 win over West Brom at the weekend and, having netted 7 goals in the 2009/10 season, has the pedigree to notch strong returns now he’s back and available to Arsene Wenger.

As for Baines, his attacking threat is undoubted – both in terms of his supply of crosses from the left-flank and his quality at dead-ball situations. The emergence of Royston Drenthe may have reduced Baines’ influence from set-plays but he still remains the top attacking Fantasy defender. With four very strong home encounters to come in the next six Gameweeks, you have to feel that, if Baines is going to deliver this season, this forthcoming window could well be his time to shine.

The big movers in our midfield rankings are somewhat predictable. Bolton’s Chris Eagles has attracted big investment following his two-goal haul against Stoke at the weekend. Lower down the rankings, mid-price prospects Stephane Sessegnon and Anthony Pilkington also enjoy boosts following recent form, as does Joe Allen in the budget bracket.

We have Allen’s team-mate Scott Sinclair ranked above him and in our top five; with three home games in four and consecutive goals in his last three Liberty Stadium matches, we fancy Sinclair to go on delivering. Just below him, the aforementioned Royston Drenthe is an interesting differential, with just 1% ownership and the fixtures to bring the best out of his explosive talent.

The form of both Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard is hard to ignore, despite their price tags, and while Aaron Ramsey is kept just outside our top five, he will surely prosper from Arsenal’s continued run of kind opponents going into December. It’s no surprise to see David Silva and Rafael Van der Vaart hold the top two spots.

Similarly, Robin Van Persie looks a permanent fixture on top of our forward rankings right now. With 10 goals in his last 6 gameweeks, there’s been no sign of the Dutchman letting up and, with strong fixtures in front of him, it could take an injury to derail the Arsenal skipper.

Van Persie’s rivals are struggling right now. Sergio Aguero has just a single goal and assist in his last five appearances for Man City, with team-mate Edin Dzeko now jumping above him in the FPL scoring charts. The Bosnian has two competitive matches before gameweek 12, keeping him below the Argentine in our rankings for now.

Wayne Rooney’s decline has been well documented on these pages and his potential remains limited by a new short-term role in the United midfield. Rooney may return to the forward line at Swansea but, even so, that’s a fixture that will prove tricky for a United side struggling for attacking fluency. Javier Hernandez is placed higher in our reckoning right now and, at 10.0 in the FPL, offers coverage in Sir Alex Ferguson’s lineup for those looking to invest in United’s favourable run of opponents.

Again, it’s Sunderland that provide perhaps the most interesting twist on things here. Nicklas Bendtner is widely criticised and has done little to justify his inflated self-belief. Even so, 3 assists, 2 goals and 5 bonus points has seen him make a decent start at the Stadium of Light and, with beatable opposition in front of him over the next four, he looks set to add to that tally.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

A bit early perhaps but who are your early captain shouts for the next gameweek.

My thoughts are to continue with Van Persie but I am worried that he be rested and brought on as a sub.

This is because Wenger may percieve the Dortmund Champions League game on the 23rd (Wednesday afterwards) to be of more importance. Therefore, he may save Van Persie for that

England 0-3 Spain, could be more but i'm going to look at it as just a day to enjoy what they do with the ball so naturally. They have far too much for us to cope with in each position and without a doubt show us all how it 'should' be done.

5-1 Spain. There is such a difference in class between the squads. I think England will beat Sweden with the Sweden squad I seen.

England always play badly first half, and then raise their game in the second. But whats the point in that if your already 0-4 down. Could be a rugby score

What's up guys, have my first questions of the day ready...

Is Ramsey necessary in a squad that already has RVP? If not, then Drenthe or Eagles better replacement?
Larsson over Sess (barring the suspension next week)?

Good question, and one that I too am deliverating over. I've had Ramsey in my team since gw8, and I have to say I am dissapointed with my return and figure RVP is all the arris coverage I need. I will be looking to replace Ramsey over the next 3/4 gw's (probably with Drenthe), but I have higher priorites in my team to address first.

Cheers Lord Trump. Yeah, I had the choice to bring in Ramsey, Drenthe, or Eagles a couple of GW ago and brought in Rams. I figure he's the most proven out of all of them, except that Eagles is in exceptional form (and yet, he's still at Bolton...) I too have a switch I have to make before I decide on Ramsey..so maybe I'll wait and see how the man plays for a couple of weeks. What do you think about Sess and Larsson though?

Personally think not. When Eagles and the Milkman deliver the same output for a million less, Ramsay becomes poor value.

Cheers jaf, I see where you're coming from...but how long can Drenthe and Eagles keep giving us those returns? Arsenal are the better squad (arguably) and have better fixtures...I guess it's all a gamble, but doesn't Ramsey feel like a safer bet to you?

Well Milkman is averaging 5 ppg for the season. My feeling with Ramsay is that he doesn't quite deliver the points you'd quite expect esp for an advanced mid in a better squad. His price at 6.5 limits other options in your team. RVP covers all the bases at ARS.

Just checked the last 6 week data:

Ramsay's had 200 passes in opponent's half which backs up his assist potential - currently ranked joint 2nd for all mids in last 6 weeks for assists. He has played a game less than most.

Obviously the potential for further assists is quite significant. Would just like to see more of a goal threat from him.

I'd downgrade Evra to Jones and I'd downgrade a midfielder to a budget mid.

5 mids above 6m means you're close to having to pick 5 in midfield every week.

Who are your captain options? Silva, Drenthe and Arteta arent really captainable. Lot of pressure on VDV and Lamps, and tbh I wouldnt captain VDV. He might just decide to be lazy no matter how easy the fixture is.

hmm. you have a good point. however, i think that VDV is more than a viable captains choice, he has the ability to turn any fixture in his favour + PKicks.
Also, Silva is definitely more than captainable due to his consistency. He may not go boom but he will get the job done.
I do agree, if I could afford somebody up top in the 10m+ range I would snap them up.
Based on that, Dzeko is seemingly the best choice for forwards, what you reckon?

Plenty of time between now and then to stock up on Spurs and Everton's finest.

So Everton and Spurs have a double in Gameweek 20...the same week the wildcard kicks in.

My plan is to load up with Spurs and Everton for Gwk 20...then use wildcard in gwk 21 to get the team back in shape.

What on earth can go wrong with that plan...oh, wait a minute the date ...early Jan..surely it won't snow?

This year there are no teams without undersoil heating, so it should be a bit less of a problem

That is true, but there will be no Blackpools, their matches were mostly cancelled due to poor pitch conditions.

    Hey everyone!
My first season and I would like to ask something... First week i had 2 Spurs players but the game was suspended and non of them was replaced with sub.
Will any points be counted towards week one after the match on Jan 11?
    Thx!

Nope, it becomes what's known as a double gameweek - the players get their points in both games in the same gameweek.

So it's a good plan to have a couple of players from each team (Spurs and Everton) for that gamweek (GW20).

For those who still aren't sure...

The Winter Wild Card kicks in once the GW20 (DGW) deadline has passed.

In other words, when we're all planning our squads and doing transfers for GW20, the WC won't yet be available.

It will only become available at 11.31am - with any transfers being ready for the following GW21, by which time the Spurs-Everton will have passed.

To put it even simpler... unless you have your original Wild Card, you need to plan your way to GW20 using your 1 free weekly transfer.

Moses or some other midlefielder for 6.1 (for -4 hit), or keep him one week more and see who is the best to buy...?

Give him 1 more week home to Blackburn, then sell for someone like Drenthe / Sessesgnon.

Apart from the fact that's he's banned for the next game, I prefer Larsson.

Yeah, apart from next week...getting him the week after though. Seems more dangerous than Sess in front of goal each SUN match I watch.

      1) See the midfielder post above by CJ. 2) Moses definitely out imo. Even if he blows up next week, not worth keeping him on your squad with the likes of Drenthe, Sess, Larss, Ramsey, and Walters as viable options.

I think ManU are becoming stronger in defence because SAF has given them a good telling off and now Vidic is back too... so imo it wold be Jones. He may get the clean sheets as well as some assists here and there.

WBA have both Long and Odem currently out. Which means a lot of Brunt's creativity will be wasted.

Drenthe is a punt, but I think one worth taking, assuming the other 4 in your midfield are strong options.

      For me, it's Drenthe.
