It’s nights like this we all dread. The words “Rafael Van der Vaart “ and “hamstring” have Fantasy managers on edge, with the breaking news that the on-song Dutchman has limped out of Holland’s friendly against Switzerland with a possible problem.

The Spurs player has been in sensational form of late, with 6 goals and 14 bonus points in his last six league games seeing his Fantasy Premier league (FPL) price rocket since gameweek six, jumping from 9.7 to 10.5 as he helped Spurs take the league by storm. Seven wins and a draw in the last eight games have helped Harry Redknapp’s side up to fifth, level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.

Sixty-six minutes into tonight’s game at the Amsterdam Arena, though, and Van der Vaart’s notorious hamstring problems reared their head again. At present, there’s no further news other than confirmation of his withdrawal from the goalless draw- nothing concrete on the injury front to report. No need to panic just yet, folks.

Robin Van Persie owners will be pleased to know the Gunners skipper came through the game unscathed but Harry Redknapp-given his recent heart scare- will be off for a lie down.

We’ll bring you more news as we get it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

So if Walters keeps his starting place, he could end up playing in the Euros next year. Might get a big money move to Villa or Sunderland. You heard it here. Wished you hadn't heard it. Forgot where you heard it. Etc.

There is no strategy.i got him in at the beginning of the season and stupidly took him out after a couple of gwks when it became apparent that rotation was rife. The following weeks saw silva score plenty of points and not get rotated but his price kept rising and i was too stubborn to get him back in cos i had initially had him in at 9.5

i have 3 of those aforementioned gods - the point of the question (if there is even a point) is that so many teams in fpl are so reliant on those players that it would cause a serious rethink if they got injured - even if 2 of those players didn't feature (eg. when nani and silva were benched - oh the heartache) it would still cause mass disruption

It's quite simple actually. We get RVP, Rooney, Aguero and get 6.0-8.0's to cover our midfield.

thats the thing - how many of those 6.0-8.0 midfielders can you really rely on? - think honestly now- theres not many, which probably highlights peoples reliance on said players from my original post and the possible disruption that could be caused if even 1 of those players got injured like tonight, or when nani and silva were rested the other week

i don't see how Mullfc and i are saying the same thing or how your comment would apply to what im saying here. he was suggesting getting 6.0's in midfield and upgrading the frontline. while i mentioned upgrading your forwards in that possible scenario, young, bale and nasri are all between 8 and 10 so arent cheapies. not to mention young and nasri (especially the latter) would most likely benefit if silva and nani were to go out injured. and besides vdv, bale is the top tottenham mid so would be a reasonable replacement

you say: get young (currently injured so isn't an option), bale (same as mulllfc), maybe nasri (currently injured so isn't an option), and upgrade frontline (same as mulllfc)

he say: It’s quite simple actually. We get RVP, Rooney, Aguero and get 6.0-8.0′s to cover our midfield

            simples?

well given that this is a hypothetical situation, or if it ever did happen, it is likely that young and nasri would no longer be injured. could also get gerrard if he wasn't injured

for who though? - the 6.0-8.0 options are neither here or there, when it comes down to it outside of say, maybe 7-8 midfielders, you're playing russian roulette

just my opinion of course, but i believe there is a very small pool of reliable elite midfielders available and not at a 6.0-8.0 price point - nevertheless, i have copied...i mean borrowed all of your suggestions for a rainy day just in case the worst happens and anarchy reigns in fpl

Well I have Brown already this is my team

        Vorm/Given

Brown, Woodgate, Assou, R Taylor, Simpson
        VdV, Silva, Tiote, Allen, Sinclair,
        Aguero, RvP, Hernandez
I have 1.4 in the bank, but no WC

But although it's tight at the top I've worked out that if needed I could take a 12 point hit and still only need to outscore the new leader (I'm currently top) by 10 points to stay there, and hopefully won't have to change my team for a while

The team I was thinking of (prior to tonight) was

        Vorm/De Gea

Brown, Vidic, Assou, R Taylor, Simpson

        Drenthe, Silva, VdV, Allen, Sinclair

        Morrison, RvP, Hernandez

My reason for looking at Vidic (and I am biased towards him) or Vermaelen is that with clean sheets so hard to come by this season, a defender who chip on with goals could be invaluable.

Probably yes. I believe there was a theory running on here that TOT sans VDV enabled Bale to grab more points. Not sure if it was ever proved though particulalry as Bale heads the last 2 gwk data.

Yeah, that's more than a full game by the Van Der Vaart standards.

The man is an alterna-Cesc - he gets all these hamstring injuries but has this amazing bouncebackability to start and start again regardless of these.
