Daniel Sturridge has his heart set on a role through the centre. Robin Van Persie hails the effect of Theo Walcott on his goalscoring, Luis Suarez faces a FA charge and Connor Wickham is expected to be back far sooner than first anticipated:

Daniel Sturridge admits he is frustrated by his role out wide for both club and country. Sturridge was given a central role in Chelsea’s game at Blackburn but an injury to Florent Malouda saw the Frenchman replaced by Fernando Torres in the second half as Sturridge returned to his usual right flank position. With Andre Villas-Boas favouring a lone striker system, though, his best chance of a place in the first-team seems likely to be away from the middle but Sturridge is determined to stake his claim:

I just want to continue playing for Chelsea and from there I want to start playing as a striker, and then from there try and play for England as a striker. I want to stake my claim as a striker, that’s the position I want to play.. because that’s where I believe I am best.

Roy Hodgson spoke of his injury doubts ahead of West Brom’s home clash with Bolton this weekend. Peter Odemwingie, Shane Long and Paul Scharner are all ”long shots” according to the Baggies boss, meaning he could continue with the formation that saw him field Simon Cox as a lone front man with Zoltan Gera tucked in behind in the previous game at Arsenal. Good news for Hodgson is that Graham Dorrans looks set to be available for selection after he was sent home from the Scotland squad last week with an ankle problem.

Alan Pardew yesterday confirmed Sylvain Marveaux is out of the weekend trip to Man City. The winger was given his first start of the season last time round due to an injury to Gabriel Obertan but lasted less than an hour of the win against Everton after picking up a groin problem. Obertan is still a doubt for the game, though Shola Ameobi has returned to full training and will be included in the squad as Newcastle look to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Connor Wickham is expected to be sidelined for just 4-6 weeks and could even be back before the end of the calendar year, according to Steve Bruce. Stretchered off after a couple of minutes in the previous gameweek at Man United, the Black Cats new summer signing was initially thought to be suffering from a long-term injury but Bruce explained that scans were far more positive than he had anticipated.

After a month long investigation, the FA have decided to charge Luis Suarez following the Patrice Evra race row. Reports suggest they feel they now have enough evidence to make a case against the Uruguayan, having studied the match footage as well as speaking to Evra and the match officials. Reports suggest that due to the seriousness of the situation, they could be ready to hand Suarez a minimum six match ban and slap him with a hefty fine due to the serious nature of the matter.

Liverpool’s official statement confirms the player will deny the charge and expect him to request a personal hearing with the FA, with the club firmly behind him on the matter. He would then be expected to learn his fate over the next few weeks by an independent tribunal.

Robin Van Persie has singled out Theo Walcott for his contribution to the Dutchman’s devastating goal scoring performances since the second half of last season. With 29 goals in 28 league games in 2011, Van Persie has been a Fantasy revelation and he admits the pair have an on-pitch understanding that brings out the best in him:

I know what he is going to do, which is very important. It’s vital to have a player around me, as a striker, who knows where I move, how I move, do I want the ball into feet, do I want it behind. He knows where to find me. Stuff like that is vital.

Steven Caulker is set to miss out this weekend as Swansea face up to Man United at the Liberty Stadium. The on-loan Spurs centre-half has been progressing well in his recovery from a knee injury that has seen him absent since gameweek four but according to Brendan Rodgers, is more likely to be ready for the following weekend’s trip to Aston Villa.

DJ Campbell could return to action within a month as he recovers from a fractured metatarsal. The QPR forward sustained the injury in a training ground accident and has been unavailable since the gameweek seven thrashing at Fulham. With Heidar Helguson making the most of his opportunity up front, with 3 goals and 2 assists in his last five games, and Jay Bothroyd netting in the last two, Campbell could have a fight on his hands getting back into Neil Warnock’s first-team plans.

Hey guys, would appreciate any comments on my proposed WC team:

    Lindegaard, Vorm

    Verminator, Wilko, Simpson, Enrique, Brown
    Drenthe, Sinclair, Walters, Silva, VDV
    RVP, Ade, Dzeko

(note: I'm pretty set on Lindegaard, Verminator, Dzeko although aware of issues)

I know what this whole Lindegaard trail of thought is but I just think he's only likely to start 2-3 more games for the rest of the season ... maybe 1 before the next WC in January - is it really worth it? Might as well get Ruddy and play Vorm ever week - that way you've got an extra £0.5m:

      Walters --> Ndyer
      Sinclair --> Mata
      Dzeko/Ade --> Bendtner

Should be just about affordable. You might not fancy it, just thought I'd put it out there

I see what you are planning, basicailly Lindegaard 1st choice to gain points every time he does play with Vorm as your dead cert back up to come in when De Gea plays. Not total madness to be honest, never thought of that being done before!

Verminator - a lot of cash for an Arsenal defender, same problems will exist esec away from home.
Wilko - I'd want a more nailed on Stoke defender with chances of goals / bonus, Shawcross only 1.1 more.
Who do you bench out of your front 8? All have good point scoring potential!

I would get Ade or VDV out of there for some MU cover.

Agree, but Linde is overpriced for a guy who will only play a couple of times
        Nani and Adebayor
        or
        VDV and Bendtner
        imo

Cheers, can't quite afford Shawcross and Woodgate did F'all for me so gona give Wilko a go - if he doesn't play at least he will free up some cash!

Will bench according to fixtures but as Dzeko is a rotation risk I was keen to have someone solid to back him up.

MU cover is definitely a problem for me - I think the moment either Silva/VDV/RVP get injured I'll bring in Nani/Rooney

Is anyone captaining Sepp Blatter this weekend. Hes bound to cause trouble to a shaky Fifa Morale XI suffering from low morale. Can't believe his comments or his job-title, or that Fifa is not only a legal organisation but a charity. Presumably John Terry is less than pleased about shaking Anton's hand as well given his right wing beliefs.

      1) I would put Enrique, Barton Raylor. I know its hard, but newcastle men in defence need to be put at the back of the cupboard for the next two weeks.

      2) Ade- with anyluck VDV will never play again, and defoe will start up front and then they will get oddles of points. Or Dzeko, bit dicey how often he will play. Hernadez outside shout.

hmm, not sure how searingly relevent taking three events from past forty years is to making a current comment about the present state of play regardinmg corruption is. bit of a damp squibe for me.

I think we should switch back to our traditional Mourinho 4-4-2 formation:

    Torres
    Studge
    Lamps
    Mata Ramires/Meireles

    Cashley Ivano
    Terry Alex/Luiz

Alright, trying to decide what midfielder to get to replace Cabaye (tough run). Have his 6.0 and another 0.4 banked. Is Drenthe the best bet? Also have read that Begovic is not 100% - is this true?

they've had the worst run of fixtures possible. also, everton never start well. its around this time when they pick up....anyways, let's wait & watch.

i can't see why i'd spend that extra$$ for vidic, when you have jones. ok jones might be rested here & there (just once in 11 games so far), but that's compensated by his attacking threat.

just saying...out of these options, baines is the best out there & a proven fpl player.

They have had poor fixtures and your right they do start slowly but i still think its too early for them to pick up, i always thought it was after Xmas at least. Im pretty sure last season from Feb onwards they were one of the best teams, results wise.

If Jones was an option i might have said him but Mr KOL didnt say him.

Baines is a proven FPL player but theirs nothin to suggest right now, that is still the case with Drenthe taking some set pieces off him. Im not saying he wont be a good option but id wait till he and Everton show some form first.

I did say other though 😉 Both very intersting points. Personally I dont trust Jones to get 90 mins each week. I like the potential attacking threat baines offers and he doent have competition for his place and any other competitions to be rested for.

Baines still has more set pieces than he did last season. It's now just that Drenthe takes some of them as opposed to Arteta who took virtually half of them, including penalties.

To be honest, im usuallly in the Arsenal dont keep many cleanies camp but the facts say otherwise. Their isnt many cleanies your right. 11 GW gone and the most clean sheets has been 5, thus me going for ultra mega cheap defence. The only thing i would worry about Verm is rotation with Sacker and Koscielny around.

well the only thing Sturridge has going for him is he is in a much better team. He has proven he can do it at this level, he just needs to be more consistent.
Sturridge will play much less minutes I think. However Chelsea will score more goals.
Bendtner has the fixtures, has scored recently and possibly on pens.

ah i forgot about Bendy most-likely being on pens...also, good point about the minutes. Bendy will play every minute for them as long as he's fit. also, it seems to me that Seb and Sess are coming into their own and should be able to provide decent-enough service to Nik. obviously, its nothing near Lamps / Mata can do for Sturridge, but as he said himself, he's limited by not being the central-striker.

Hating my gk situation with given and ruddy...

On the one hand iv considered just playing ruddy and hoping for save points however i dont like betting against my captain (Rvp) doing well! Alternatively iv shortlisted a few replacements for given and altho im aware a 4pt hit for a defender/gk is stupid, it will return the points over 3-5gw's and allow me to make other trades!

What are other owners of the elite pair doing?

Saving a transfer then getting rid of Given next week as part of 3 transfers (4 point hit) probably. I dont want to take a hit for a defender/goalie at the moment but doing it as part of 3 transfers im hoping the 2 player coming in will help make up the 4 pointer.

I am playing Ruddy this week for the saves. I have already played my WC, and have really been looking at fixtures. My plan was to save 2x transfers and swap Given for Krul and get the extra cash to spend upgrading a mid.

The problem is there is always another focus for a transfer, eg Suarez may be banned/is sh1te anyway; VDV may do his hammy again, etc etc.

If I get through this week unscathed, I will do swap Given out for Ruddy or Krul.

the point of that blackburn game is that even if Bosingwa plays this weekend from now on there is a question mark over his starting place. Those like me who got him at 5.5 have made a tidy profit on him. If as is likely he continues to be rotated then that will disappear. Now is the time to ditch imo.

Worse scenario is also he is used as a sub...so that means you have a 1pt player...which is worse than not playing at all and your bench player coming on.

probly agree with you, time to ship him for a nailed on 6.0 player.

Though if like me you bought him for 5.5 you can sell him for 5.8 though which means his value can drop from 6.2 to 6.1 without you losing any profit...

1pt comment is a valid one though as he's more like to play 15 mins when they'r alright winning than than play a full game and get a cleanie.

I got the same question really. Aparently Bos may play vs Liverpool as Ivan had 2 internationals and i've gained a million points in value with him.

But that's not a good fixture then he's competing with Ivan for wolves, newc, mancity. I also have N.Taylor and Enrique who shouldn't return much.

That said I can't see anyone worth taking a hit for so maybe he'll stay. I dunoooo

and have gained value on both

Anyone recommend who to drop and who would make a nice combination? Krul's immediate 3 fixtures are god awful but if there's a short term replacement he picks up with (nor, SWA, wba) rather than vorm's (FUL, new, eve).

I agreed with both Mac and Goose. It's still the best rotation IMO, and after CHEL, New have 4 good home fixs out of 5 (SWAN, WB, QPR, AV), with just MU tucked in there, followed by WOL, SUN NOR.

        Krul remains a great option.

I am bringing in O'HAra on my WC. Wolves fixtures rotate outrageously well with Sunderlands so will rotate him with Bendtner.

I like ohara but tough fixtures. If he stays in advanced role well worth it. Rodwell was the other one I thought with the fixtures
