As our recent Watchlist Updated article announced, the upcoming gameweeks looks considerably kind for Steve Bruce’s Sunderland. The Black Cats may be sitting just a point above the drop zone but a glance at the fixture schedule offers promise for the Wearsiders.

Central to our thoughts is Keiren Westwood. The summer signing from Coventry City has been propelled to first-choice keeper right now as a result of Simone Mignolet’s long-term absence with a fractured eye socket. With the Belgian expected to be sidelined for months after a collision with Emile Heskey in the gameweek ten clash with Aston Villa, and with Craig Gordon still unavailable due to a knee problem, Westwood made his first start for the Black Cats away to Man United last weekend. Despite a 1-0 loss, he excelled between the posts, with 6 saves defying the champions time and again.

In particular, Sunderland’s next run of four games stand out. First they play host to Fulham, a team that have scored 3 goals and collected a single win from their five road trips this term. Bruce’s side are at home for the next game, too, as basement-dwellers Wigan travel up to the Stadium of Light; the Latics have scored twice and picked up a single point from six away games.

Following that is a trip to Wolves, with Mick McCarthy’s side struggling after a run of games that has seen them record one win in the previous nine. Westwood and co then have a home showdown with Steve Kean’s Blackburn, with the out of sorts Lancashire outfit picking up just three points away from home all season.

At 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and with a mere 0.5% ownership, Westwood offers a cut-price route into the Sunderland back line right now. There’s clean sheet potential on the cards, then, and as he showed at Old Trafford, Westwood has the ability to rack up the save points even in the event of an opposition goal.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

        My team is atm:

        Hennessey (Krul)
P Jones Enrique Wilkinson (De Laet, Simpson)
VDV Moses Silva Nani (M Petrov)
        Sturridge Suarez RVP

Not sure if taking out VdV is most necessary or if I should take out M Petrov for someone better and if VdV plays good if not got someone ok on bench to come in?

Assuming having all 3 of these will considerably dent the rest of your team, which 2 would you prefer from GW13 until Winter WC time:

    A: RVP & Aguero

Oh yes. I remember watching the week before when Wigan played Chelsea on Sky and he impressed me and got one bap, so that was it. Wildcarded, got him in and gave him the armband.

The mini-leaguers couldn't believe it (got mocked when one of them saw I'd captained him, before the game). I got called a "lucky f*cking bastard" many times, but we both know it was serious skill. 😀

b - graham very likely to score when Swansea are at home (probably with the exception of this week) and silva is great....really consistent. He'll get those steady 5-10 scores that mean you don;t have to worry about his position.

IMO Silva and RVP are must haves. If you want Rooney and you are conv inced he will do taht well then that would make him captain material and it would make a 4pt hit like a drop in the ocean. Wait and see with him and take a hit if needed.

Give me a B, give me an A give me an E......welcome aboard the good ship Jonty, Benoit, let's hope you are as profitable as the guy you are replacing mr bosingwa.

Now Mr Petrov - who to replace you with Mr Royston or Mr Walters?

After all my Royston hype Walters is starting to appeal...I think I need the stability of a certain starting penalty taker in all the uncertatinty of a post international week.

I'd probably go for Royston, just make sure you don't end up buying the wrong R. Drenthe.

Id get royston since Walters has like 2 more good fixtures, Walters only 2 more good games to go.

There is, but I like to play fixtures so that put Drenthe in the top of the pot for me, next choice for me would have actually been Brunt. But I already have Walters and Ramsay.

I am torn between BAE and Brown IN for Warnock. I also have Vorm/Krul/Simpson/N.Taylor/Enrique/Shawcross, why you go for BAE Jonty? BAE and Brown both have good fixtures, with Brown slightly edging BAE in the next 4, that being said, I still don't quite trust the Sunderland defense despite fixtures.

Brown has got me 3 clean sheets an assist and 2Bps this season. I have far more confidence in him than the goal-a-game spurs defence.

because I had a look at the members stats which tell me BAE is capable of some great scores, but Brown is capable of ticking over and is only really about cleanies. Both have good fixtures. I've had Brown before and he's what a class a really boring player, quite good, will get a cean sheet or two but not much else in his locker. BAE has form, fixtures and potential.

I have Walters, drenthe, Sinclair, with VDV and Silva thrown in. Surprisingly rotating Walters and Sinclair has worked great this season.
Cant knock the mid price mids!

that is a sound plan. I had a look in the members area and was surprised how unimpressive drenthe's stats were even when he was percieved to have done well. Larsson is the best for that price. Walters is better than Drenthe as well based on stats. Sinclair is a great choice..very good home stats.

Would you believe that Swansea have conceeded only 1 goal & have not lost any match at home this season? Man Utd also are not scoring many goals lately. So looks like the match on Saturday could be a low scoring game.

Ivanovic would be incredibly unlucky if he was dropped after we kept our first clean sheet in ages, as well as setting up our winning goal. Bosingwa has been at fault for so many goals this season, and presumably AVB has lost patience.

....Although I wouldn't bet on it.

That's the sensible way of looking at it. It's just Bos hasn't played for his country, Ivanovic played twice. Bos looks to be dropping tonight, so it's him out for Brown I reckon.

The fact it is a home game and Ivanovic will be likely more needed in Germany midweek may give Bos a start. He is fresh from no international football too. Shame he is shit.

Worst over selected XI (only based on FPL terms of both being overly selected and overly crap FPL wise)

    Given
    Baines, Cahill, Bos,
    Fergusan, Moses,Nasri, Nzogbia, Modric
    Davies, Stuuridge
    (Bent, Wilkinson, Nani)

Im thinking abt using my first WC this week, my current lineup is:

    Vorm/Given

Evans, R Taylor, Brown, Ward, S Taylor,
    Silva, VDV, Mata, Dyer, Moses,
    Agbon, RVP, Suarez

    And thinking about changing to:

    Option A

    Vorm/Westwood
    Wilkinson, Rangel, Brown, Olsson, Gabbidon
    Silva, Bale, Walters, Eagles, Dyer,
    Rooney, RVP, Aguero

    Option B

    Vorm/Westwood

    Wilkinson, Rangel, Brown, Terry, Jones
    Silva, Bale, Dyer, Walters, Sessegnon
    Bendtner, RVP, Aguero

So my dilemmas are, a: use the WC this week and b: Rooney in favor of a better def and slighty more solid midfield.....
