As our recent Watchlist Updated article announced, the upcoming gameweeks looks considerably kind for Steve Bruce’s Sunderland. The Black Cats may be sitting just a point above the drop zone but a glance at the fixture schedule offers promise for the Wearsiders.

Central to our thoughts is Keiren Westwood. The summer signing from Coventry City has been propelled to first-choice keeper right now as a result of Simone Mignolet’s long-term absence with a fractured eye socket. With the Belgian expected to be sidelined for months after a collision with Emile Heskey in the gameweek ten clash with Aston Villa, and with Craig Gordon still unavailable due to a knee problem, Westwood made his first start for the Black Cats away to Man United last weekend. Despite a 1-0 loss, he excelled between the posts, with 6 saves defying the champions time and again.

In particular, Sunderland’s next run of four games stand out. First they play host to Fulham, a team that have scored 3 goals and collected a single win from their five road trips this term. Bruce’s side are at home for the next game, too, as basement-dwellers Wigan travel up to the Stadium of Light; the Latics have scored twice and picked up a single point from six away games.

Following that is a trip to Wolves, with Mick McCarthy’s side struggling after a run of games that has seen them record one win in the previous nine. Westwood and co then have a home showdown with Steve Kean’s Blackburn, with the out of sorts Lancashire outfit picking up just three points away from home all season.

At 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and with a mere 0.5% ownership, Westwood offers a cut-price route into the Sunderland back line right now. There’s clean sheet potential on the cards, then, and as he showed at Old Trafford, Westwood has the ability to rack up the save points even in the event of an opposition goal.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Two contrasting midfield options there!. I got Adam in a few weeks back for the Swansea game and he didn’t deliver. He’s on pens and set pieces while Gerrard is away but Gerrard is only a few weeks from returning. Without knowing the rest of your team it’s a tough call, but I don’t see Adam as a long term investment and I would personally go for Eagles and use that additional money elsewhere in your team. Thats my two penneth (which doesn't seem to mean much on here!).

Charlie Adam was FPL Gold last season (well, for me at least!) He was a massive differential and won me the H2H but playing for Liverpool he's failed to shine. Guess he prefers to be the big fish in a little pond.

Brought Eagles in last week and paid off to my surprise. Great value for the amount of points he's racked up!

You say that but last season's 3/2 goals assists aside, his FPL scoring has come from CS only. I'd stay Brown. He's properly rotation-proof and is £0.3m cheaper.

£0.3m would definitely be worth paying for Raylor over Simpson, but Bardsley is no Raylor, which is my point. But if you strongly believe in Bards, go for it, it might pay-off and if the money is just sitting there otherwise...

          Good luck.

I can't see either player receiving bonus without a goal or assist (looking at the member stats) - Bardsley has a greater ICT in the last 4 GWs.

I guess you are correct - if you think Bardsley will play 90 then over a number of weeks he will likely score higher than Brown/Turner due to attacking points.

I understand that view Demi, but it's not price we're really talking about, it's value, and Silva is still good value even after rising £1m. Other than DVD, there is no Mids with anything like the excellent long-term scoring potential as Silva.

Oh how could I, but again, at an extra £1.3m (I think), the value remains in DVD/Silva. That extra cash allows a lot of wriggle room elsewhere in the squad.

This is true, but of the top 4 striker point scorers, 3 are over £11m (RvP, Rooney, Aguero), so they're paying up for what are assumed to be guaranteed points over the season, as far as guaranteed as you get, anyway.

In the Mids, Silva, Fat Frank and DVD, all reasonably close points-wise, and I would expect that to remain the case throughout. So, since most FPL players will only be able to afford 2, pick the 2 cheaper options. That would be my instinct, it's what I've done, and it allows me to have 2 of those afore-mentioned top strikers too.

The mass will say probably Drente but I will say neither, I would go Brunt, he is best value and I like his fixtures attacking wise. If I must choose for above I would go Sess, but I prefer Bendy bus than him, so I don't want to double in Sun attacking players

For a contrasting in view, I've got Walters and plan to keep for the time being, but I'm watching Drenthe closely. I'm not convinced by Sess, or Sun, for that matter. Brunt's a fair call too, though. If I had none of the above and was buying one today, it would probably be Drenthe. Call me predictable, if you must. 🙂

Walts is great for next two games, has been a consistant performer/. Sess - just got him in, got some imppressive points tallies recently and unbelievable run of games= form and fixtures. Drenthe everyone loves, but doesn't have as good fixtures as Sun, and look at point hauls over last 3 game weeks, see how he compares to Sess.

so far the good striker options seem to be in 6-7m or 10m+.

I'd be tempted to sell Warnock, if it's for a free transfer too. Nothing else i can see that demands greater priority. Aston Vila's fixtures look dirt for a good few weeks now, and i wouldn't feel comfortable selling Ramsey before Norwich and at home to Fulham. He'll come good

Actually I should have said that, Warnock is the biggest priority for me too really, it will feel so underwhelming to have transferred in a keeper and defender with my two freebies though, but I suppose transfers can't always be momentous!

I am thinking Brown for some Sunderland coverage?

Man utd have been going 1-0 since their buttocks were served to them, and been playing him in midfield, and hes probably been eating pie in bed with hookers on his week off. All in all a good prospect once more, but his price got to be 100% on him starting up front and being on song. out of him and RVP prefer RVP and there can only be one. for me.

Agree with you but cant upgrade the midfield unless i sell Rooney. Ronney has not scored since GW6 and has been playing in the midfield for the last 3 games. Hernandez looks good as I need Man Utd attack cover considering their good fixtures. The big problem is that there is also rotation risk.

Next 6 from 10 are at home and Che is second by predicted goals per game in the next 10 behind Manc Utd. He is scoring for fun ATM both for England and club, and without penalties. He is capable of monster scores like that hack trick against Bla and has very low ownership. Best bet for catching up in the ranking currently is no one else, but Lamps. I think I will sacrifice Aguero after this game for him.

    ola chicos,
thought on tim howard, normally i think he sounds very expensive for a keeper, but i shelled out 5 for schwarzer who up until a few weeeks ago rotated great with vorm and it seems many on this site spent 5 on given.
so how about 5.4 on howard when you can have these fixtures until the WC:

    Vorm | Ruddy
    P.Jones | Enrique | Tierney | Simpson | N.Taylor
    VDV | Silva | Nani | Drenthe | Ferguson
    Rooney | RVP | Graham
    £0.6m in the bank

Yeh Ferguson is a BIG problem, but Tierney-->>Brown or Ruddy-->>Westwood is the way i'm looking to spend the £0.6m.
But I could get Nani out for a £6m midfielder, upgrade Graham-->>Sturridge/Bendtner and use the spare £2.7m on the rest of the defence.

Yeah nice team .. clearly you know that Ferguson is an issue but there's not a lot of point making that transfer this week if you're not playing the replacement anyway.

Would be tempted to take Nani out as you say, give that you already have Rooney, maybe Sessegnon? Next week that would allow you to bring in someone at least half decent for Ferguson and upgrade Graham too if you felt you wanted to.
