With his red card in the loss to Everton, it’s Bolton’s David Wheater who took Saturday’s disciplinary headlines. His clumsy lunge on Everton’s Diniyar Bilyaletdinov resulted in his second red of the season, earning him an immediate three-match ban which is topped up with an additional match, due to the previous red. Wheater will now serve a band from gameweeks 14 to 17 (tot, AVL, ful, bla) returning to contention on Boxing Day. Having filled in at right-back today, his absence is set to leave Bolton a little short following the injury to Joe Riley. The return of Dedryck Boyata from his own setback, can’t come soon enough for Owen Coyle.

Joining Wheater on the ban list for next weekend is Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez; his pair of yellows for Newcastle at Old Trafford means he’ll be missing when Chelsea visit St James’ Park next weekend. Meanwhile, despite a fifth yellow for John Terry in the 3-0 win over Wolves, the Chelsea skipper will still make that fixture. Strategic or not, his one match suspension will rule him out of the Carling Cup clash with Liverpool on Tuesday making him eligible for the Newcastle clash.

On to the Suspension Tightrope, and we have a couple of willing volunteers to take Terry’s vacated space, with Yohan Cabaye of Newcastle and Wolves’ Karl Henry joining party. Both earned their fourth yellows, picked up in the games against Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.

Gameweek 14 Bans

  • Antolin Alcaraz (Wigan) – FA Charge (1 remaining match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 4 matches)
  • Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle) – 1 Red for 2 bookings (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – Four Bookings

  • Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Gareth Barry (Man City)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Lee Cattermole (Sunderland)
  • Karl Henry (Wolves)
  • Richard Stearman (Wolves)

I really want him too, but not prepard to split up the Ade/Chico/RVP combo just yet.
I'd get him in for Hernandez but he has avl WOL qpr ful WIG BLA in the time when Ba has good fixtures so there is no point.
If I were you, i'd probably do it.

Early thoughts on captain choice? Even though it will be probably impossible to go without RVP (c) I found it alot funner this week when cheering on the Juan and only Mata.
Silva (NOR) - home ground advantage, i'd expect him to play as I doubt he'd miss 2/3 PL games. Norwich no pushovers but still never keep cleanies.
Hernandez (avl) - 'Away advantage' (has scored 4 in 3 away starts, aswell as 1 out of 2 ten minute cameo's on the road)
RVP (wig) - Wigan + RVP = Possibly anything
Adebayor (BOL) - versing the worst defence in the league, averages just over 8 at home, has 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 games. In one of his 'form streaks'
Van der Vaart (BOL) - again, versing the worst defence in the league. Perhaps the forgotten man this week, declared himself fit and ready to go on his twitter, and is 'due' 😯

      By Friday
there'll be the usual Silva being rested around talk around here..
There'll be the VDV is 50% ready to start talk by Redknapp
Fergie will talk up Berbatov and say he deserves a chance
The captain poll will have 3000 votes for RVP and 100 or so for Adebayor

No matter what captain you decide now it'll change by friday night

Lampard should definitely not have started.
It isn't a coincidence they looked their best when they beat Swansea 4-1 (with 10 men nonetheless) and Wolves last night despite a poor patch of form.
Lampard is a good player IMO, but Mata/Ramires/Meireles play so much better with no Lampard there.

I am terrified of Ade being the new RVP I have two free transfers, which move is better?. Team is linked

    A) Ramsey, BAE, Bendy OUT. -4pt
    Ben Arfa, Ward, Ade IN

Logic: Ade is the new RVP and Ben Arfa plays OOP. Ward played as an attacking winger against chelsea, he could be employed in that role more often and he does attack a lot, he also has 3 good home fixtures in the next 4 games. Spurs defense is average and will always be average and Ramsey and Bendy failed to live up to expectations. Also this uses up all my cash exactly and allows me to keep Hernandez and my other more expensive players

    B) Hernandez OUT saves 1 FT
    Ade IN

Logic: Its easy and I can re-assess everything with 2 FT after the next GW

PLEASE let me know if my thinking is sound and whether I should go A or B

I had RVP ages ago and due to a technical hiccup in the transfer dept. of my team he was sent packing immediately prior to the Chelsea game.

Then to compound matters, personal pride in being unable to own up to causing the technical hiccup, further delayed his re-admittance to the squad.

After baps they'd have got me 48 of my 63/64 points (depending on Hernandez)

Neither but I need a defender at 4.6 or less. Don't really fancy McAuley and I have coverage for all the usual suspects at that price range. Ward had at least two shots on goal against Chelsea and was even found as a striker at times. He will get attacking points

5 players to play tonight and i really hope for Swansea to win with CS and Siva/Richards to get on scoresheet but Liverpool to win in the end. I hope it's not too much to wish for... 😀

Btw, looking at the fixtures for next week investment. I think it might be the time for Evans out and re-consider the future of Bendy in my team.

    Vorm (Krul)
    Simpson - Evans - Richards - Brown - N.Taylor
    VDV - Mata - Bale - Silva - Dyer
    Ade - Bendtner - RVP

2FT.. Please help to share your comment on these ideas for Evans + Bendy OUT.
    A: Baines + Rochina
    B: Jagielka + Ba
    C: 4.0 DF + Dzeko/Balotelli

Thank you.. I agree that B seems to give me the best balance of two good players, but I also consider the potential points from A or C.

A .. Baines looked promising last night. His did 9 crosses to the box and they looked dangerous. It leaves me just 4.9 to spend for Bendy's replacement : Graham, Holt, Rochina, and Mackie fit the bill.

C .. Dzeko/Balo will face Norwich. This will give me a sure headache selection to guess who to start. Most of my rivals have Aguero, so this will probably a way for me to get balanced with them.

      What do you think?

Thank you, Jimski. I agree that Graham looks the best from that lot. But, threre's little problem with Graham as I already have 3 Swan.. Vorm, Naylor, and Dyer.

B seems conclusive. The good about B is I can wait until near the deadline to do transfer.

      4 could easily be enough.
BUT, i'm definitely having Bale, Adebayor and VDV and then 1-3 of Cahill/Baines/Drenthe/Rodwell/Vellios
Depending on form and if they make it to the starting 11 or not.
Having Bale, Ade, VDV, Baines, Drenthe and Rodwell/Cahill could be lethal haha

So, thinking way ahead, which Everton players are worth it for the dgw?

Jagielka and Baines, I guess are the obvious ones. Possibly Saha?

Trouble with the defenders is I'm not convinced they'll get clean sheets, and Baines is very expensive.

There's the rub - if they do get clean sheets, then the likes of VDV, Bale, Ade are not going to be scoring much. And if those guys do score well, then the Everton defence won't return much. Unless it's attacking points from the defenders.

    Vorm
    Enrique, Richards, Brown
    VDV(VC), Silva, Drenthe, Walters
    RVP(C), Sturridge, Adebayor
    Subs: Ruddy, Sinclair, S.Taylor, Wilkinson

I am considering the following (I have 3.9M in the bank):
    1. Save my transfer
    2. Sturridge to Ba
    3. Wilkinson to Baines, Jagielka, Johnson, Vermaelen or Rangel

It is very interesting way to set up your team without any name from the so called top four.

As they have been struggling in this season and Spurs + Man City have been performing well, your team look decent without them.

Keep the strategy and let see at the end of season how the team could perform without top four.. 🙂

Baines and Drenthe both play on the left and are likely to overlap a lot with Drenthe dropping back when Baines goes on one of his runs up the flank. Does this make it pointless to have Drenthe in the team as he will be suppoting Baines a lot of the time?

No. It means Everton will get a lot of joy down that wing, some from drenthe some from baines.

Ok thats fair. I would consider Gutierez and R Taylor from Newcastle and Downing and Enrique as examples if the LM being dominated by the LB in terms of overall action

Hernandez or Ba. I think Ba has hit a run of form that puts him in the same bracket as the big boys.

Here's my team, I'm thinking about getting Hernandez in for GW 15, but can't quite work out how..

    Team is:

    Westwood (Krul)
    Olsson, Enrique, Hibbert, (Rangel), (STaylor)
    Drenthe, Bale, Silva, Mata, (Ramsey)
    Sturridge, Adebayor, RvP

    1m in bank

Sturridge -> Hernandez, and then what?!

Subs aren't set in stone yet. It's either him or Sturridge though I think, and I'd always rather have a striker playing, even if it is against Newcastle. I'll make up my mind later.

I have my reservations about Ba, he's a good player but I think I prefer Sturridge. Obviously he has great stats but I don't think he'll massively outscore Sturridge over the next few weeks.

That said he'll probably score a mountain of hat-tricks.

Ba is Newcastle's main attacking force and their penalty-taker. Plus, he's proven to be able to score against 'tough' opponents, whereas Sturridge only scores against weak teams.

    hi guys

    current team is:

    vorm/krul
    brown/warnock/kompany/wilkinson/de laet
    nani/silva/bale/drenthe/dyer
    rvp/sturridge/hernandez

with 1.1 in the bank and one free transfer for this week.

    any suggestions?

(i'm thinking about nani to vdv, or sturridge to ba [or both])

alternatively, could upgrade someone in my defence (prob warnock > jones).

can't afford de laet -> jag without a 4 pointer.

warnock -> jag would leave me with enough cash for nani -> vdv or sturridge -> ba if necessary.

Warnock is a waste of space imo, Aston Villa just don't keep clean sheets, and they have bad fixtures. Whilst Jags has great fixtures, and a DGW coming up.

      City will win 1-2
11th minute - Enrique goal, Bellamy assist.
39th minute - Milner goal, Silva assist.
84th minute - Silva goal, Kolarov assist.
      Well, here's hoping anyway...

To be honest, any results from Swansea - Villa and Liverpool - City would see my players get points. I've Vorm, Enrique, Kompany, Silva, Dyer and Agbonlahor. I'm hoping for 30 from this lot (dreaming, I know). I want to reach 60 points though.
