Craven Cottage is the venue, as Fulham versus Liverpool wraps up Gameweek 14 on a bitterly cold Monday night. Braving the unpleasant conditions outside, the Dugout Discussion is open once more. Martin Jol and Kenny Dalglish have handed their team sheets in, and this is how the sides line-up tonight…

Fulham XI: Schwarzer, Kelly, Senderos, Hangeland, JA Riise, Murphy, Etuhu, Dempsey, Ruiz, Zamora, Dembele.

Liverpool XI: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Henderson, Adam, Spearing, Bellamy, Carroll, Suarez.

The hosts make one change to the side that drew at the Emirates, as Steven Kelly comes in for Chris Baird at right-back.

As for the visitors, the devastating injury to their star defensive-midfielder Lucas, means that Jay Spearing comes in as his replacement. Elsewhere, Andy Carroll partners Luis Suarez up-front, and surprisingly there’s no reward in the form of a starting berth for Maxi Rodriguez, who’s enjoying somewhat of a purple patch at the moment.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be found by clicking here, so come in and follow all the action as it unfolds.

Had to leave the game with 10mins to go after Dempsey hit the bar and really thought pool would hold on. Was figuring Enrique would be in line for a bp or two if they did. disappointing.

Today was just another example of Kenny proving that he isn't a tactician. LFC need to figure this out quick because a mediocre December can't be afforded. How they can play with Chelsea and City but leave points on the table/get nothing against Norwich, Swans, and Fulham is downright unacceptable.

It's true. He is really not a great tactician. The pool owners wont be afraid to spend money though so it will be interesting to see who they go for in Jan.

What are you guys talking about? carragher? shelvey? Kennys only mistake was starting carroll, please master tacticians shed some light on what the proper course would've been. Bringing on carragher? yes thats exactly what pool needed, a defensive liability once they go down 1-0???

am talking before they went down 1-0. Kuyt is essentially an attacking player and not the sub to bring on when down to ten. Someone with defensive experience was the one to bring on. He was limited in his choice and Carragher is not the ideal person to bring in there but better than Kuyt imo.

Uh ok, so what the f*ck is the strategic gain of a defensive sub, they had no reason to shore up against a clearly inferior team... carragher would only slot for a cb and both were playing just fine

if you mean they should've shored up after going down to 10 before going down 1-0, fair enough, but not carragher, he's too slow and too susceptible to mistakes, I concede that a more defensive cm would've been better after the card but after going down to 10 there is no effing reason not to go for it and kuyt gives u defense as well=literally perfect sub for the situation

kuyt is exactly the type of player you'd want to bring on in that situation, works his balls off and doesn't give the ball away cheaply, and goals in him to boot. Who would've been better to add 'steel' than him? downing also brought a spark and nearly got the winner... good subs

Messy ,you dont know what your talking about.

When the subs were made it was still 0 0 , but liverpool were already down to 10 men.
With about fifteen minutes to go , Kenny should of been thinking about preservation , not trying to win with 10 men, Besides , fulham were quite dangerous at times and should of taken the lead in the first half. Sure Liverpool had plenty of possesion , but fulhams more direct style often looked dangerous.

Pool should of just taken off caroll and replaced him with someone capable of playing just in front of back four

Enrique was good, showed both no-fuss security at the back and great pacy runs along the channel to start moves. Don't recall him misplacing a pass once and his clearances and decision making was so faultless you didn't even clock it. Naturally the goal didn't come down his flank - it was the other one!

i reckon the yak was just a burst of temporary form, he'll dry up now until they play bolton. I think i'm gonan go ahead with Long, he's jsut as good as yakubu, scores almost every game he plays in and is a huge, massive differential. Cheers though.

Wondering how the BPs will look for tonight's match. Yes, yawn, but for a wider point. I'm especially interested not because I own Enrique and Schwarzer (although that helps) but because it's a good test of how much the PPI system deviates from FPL scoring. The goal came from a Reina mistake, was poached by Dempsey and is scored as a Murphy assist, but the majority of the game was Pool attacking. Henderson hit the post, I think Pool hit it again somehow, they had shots on target (I've got save points from Schwarzer) and really had Fulham under siege for a period after half time. So I wonder how Pool PPI scores will look against Dempsey and Murphy's. Also up to the goal, solid defensive work was made by both Fulham and Pool defenders, with a good number of clearances, headers and tackles especially around the Fulham box. Enrique made good runs and passes and I figure Hangeland and Senderos made enough interventions to warrant attention. All in all, it was an open and skilful game and not a boring flat points grab. It will be interesting to see how the assist, goal and loss of CS invalidate all the above.

My hunch is that Dempsey will get 3, but the 2 will be a tossup between Murphy, Hangeland, Schwarzer and Enrique, with the losers falling to 1 or none. It could be pretty close and points shared.

Majority of game was pool attacking? maybe slightly, but fulham had plenty of chances as well, don't be too angry if they all go to fulham players as both teams had good games, I expect them to all go to fulham players because it was so even and since fulham won it should tip the scales in their favor

Quite possibly and that is in line with most predictions. PPI rewards goals, assists, shots, playing time, but also gives out a winning team bonus to all players on that team and distributes a CS bonus preferentially to defensive players. We just don't know the specifics. Obviously FFS are making a good go at working it out with their ICT Stats and their predictions are reaching significance, but I do wonder if we could crack it with a stats package linking PPI to as many stats as we can find...

Or we could just give extra points to the players who score goals and get assists. That's how it seems to work as far as I can tell. I know I go on about it, but it really pisses me off. Nobody had any complaints about the old system, and it was far better to get your points later on day of, rather than on Monday morning. I'm pretty sure this site would admit the new system sucks balls if they weren't enforcedly in bed with FPL.

See I was started as a casual last year so I have very little to compare this new system with. Treating it alone, my impression is that yes it basically tops up attacking points except in low scoring matches.

My biggest issue is it simply doesn't reflect the aesthetic experience of watching a game. Who was the best player on the pitch for Chelsea Newcastle this weekend? Mata, by a mile. But his best moves involved passes to players who failed to score. So he gets nothing. Last year Charlie Adam got 3 pts every match whether Blackpool won, lost or drew. And fairly, because he was the shining light in pretty much every game he played.
Outsource your scoring to an American company. Get nonsense...

It takes at least a click of the mouse and a scroll to check a player's fixtures. That's pretty complicated, you have to admit.

I don't like the fixtures for those players, except Krul but I worry about him missing the protection of the regular centre backs.

I can't see why anyone is buying these players, let alone so many knee jelling them ok so s to cause a price rise.

    Morning/evening everyone,

Do you like this team for a 4 point hit? Or avoid the 4 point hit without doing Bendy to Sturridge?

    Vorm, Ruddy
    Jones, Shawcross, Naylor, Simpson, Brown
    Silva, VDV, Bale, Nani, Dyer
    VP, Ade, Sturridge

Also how did Liverpool played last night? Haven't got the chance to watch the game or read through the forum.

    Thanks for any opinions 🙂

Bendy is a pestilent blight on any fantasy football team. But at the same time, 4 pts is 4 pts.

I'd get rid of him myself, but I'm a compulsive team fiddler who took an 8pter last week and a 4pter this.

Couldn't stand the sight of Bendy on my team anymore..always playing on the wings, shit team mates/supply, and not even on pens, but saying that he's playing BB while Sturridge has City 😕

Swap you for your ranking! Made some bad captaincy choices early on... My strategy this year is to jump every bandwagon until I get to 110 mil, then bed down the real team - think I'm pretty close, got Verm in this week for Simpson, just need to shift De Laet and everyone's then a keeper. Thus 28 points in hits so far. But if 100 million gets you 2000 points over a season, 10 million gets you 100 in half a season, and so the hits first half are worthwhile.

Make sense, the point hits will be recoverable over the season anyway if you pick the right players and it helps big time to have a high team value.

You'd easily be catching up with the ranking in no time with that team imo 🙂

Hmmm it's always greener on the other side, having a reliable points scoring nucleus to your team is what most people are trying to reach, let alone explosive. Looking at 60 as the target average GW score, it becomes evident you need ~5 from each player when you consider the captaincy too. And yet that's difficult - a single assist nothing more - particularly in mids! I used to think top rankers built a really stable lineup they could persist with over the season - don't know what your experience is there - but now I'm of the opinion that the game is about joining and leaving bandwagons at the right times. So the squad is in a constant state of flux. Evolution, not revolution. As Alan Partridge said. Haha!

This is my first season so I don't have any experience on whats the right way to get the points. The most ideal case is your whole team contributing points while the expensive players getting their explosive hauls.

But its such an unpredictable game like Lampards vs Wolves, and who the hell expect him to get a -1 vs Newcastle, so I guess most of it comes down to luck. But yeah, gotta jump on the correct bandwagons early and avoid the stupid ones.

Yep. This is my second season but the first I've actually logged in every week. Can't believe how negligent I was last year, just picked Tevez, Sturridge and Cahill and checked back every fortnight or so to see half my players were now injured and having not made a transfer for a month I was now going to take a -12 hit lol.

Aside from the obvious luck factor, patience really is one. I take way too many hits but only because they often produce spectacular results.

That being said tho it seems the average score out of those chaps on here was far higher. Thus i will bow to superior knowledge. Any ideas on what to do with this lot lads? Good squad - why 67, did you not captain RVP? Priority would be defense. Midfield is good I think, although holding on to VDV right now is psychologically difficult. My suspicion is the Geordies (fixtures notwithstanding) will regress to the norm, and thus Raylor out should be your priority. BAE's a sensible swap, decent fixtures and will rise in price tonight. That gives you 0.6 cash to use next week...

      Hey elnino

Hope your week was better than mine. Total disaster. Cheap defense really screwed me, this time, I guess. And studge>Ba plus another crappy one from Rooney did me no favors, either. O yeah, and ShawX on bench. Blah.....seeing all these 85-90 point hauls are killing me.

Simpson is looking awful risky, but I guess with two stoke defenders, he is the better bet. Maybe transfer needs to be ShawX out for your choice of Baines/Verm/Jones/Kompany/Richards. I like the cheapie defense strategy but I'm starting to lose hope in it after it totally killed me this weekend.

I guess you also after to ask yourself what you think of VDV. Its a real solid team though.

Blah, its weeks like this that make you want to quit the game.

        Yo Newman!

Feel your pain buddy. But hey 61 is a pretty neat score (atleast you didn't get a 35ish gw score like me in gw13). There are loads of 35-50s this gw around here, but they aren't posting much for the last 24 hrs...i guess you know why 😛

Btw I have a classic h2h dilemma & my rival has a stronger team on paper.

Common players: Vorm; Enrique; Silva, VDV; Studge, RVP.

Me: Brown, Simpson; Sinclair, Bale, Helguson
My Rival: Naylor/Kompany, Jones; Brunt, Mata, Adebayor

I’m guessing my rival would do Mata/VDV > Bale with his FT this GW. I have 5mil in my bank. Considering all this, do you still think I should just get Jones in? Or should I try to differentiate and get the Verminator/Vidic/Ba in?

Well, I try never to do transfers based on H2H opponents: just trust your team. Make the best transfer possible with the information you have.

I'm pretty high on Ba. I guess I have to be after missing the Studge haul for him.

I'm thinking about Jones or Richards. If it were Richards, surely not this week. Jones should get a cleanie and more, so that makes sense. I can't justify Verm because I don't think this will continue but maybe I'm wrong. Of those choices I predictably like Ba the best, with Vidic as the second choice.

Same here. Prefer Ba the most.

You don't rate Smalling much? I actually thought he has a realistic chance of starting most games. He was pretty much their best defender against AVL.

How about ShawX > Vidic/Smalling/Jones for a hit?

I'm just so down this week. Everyone else did so good, and my 'genius' cheapo defense is up in smoke now.

Gotta ask you Baines owners....why getting rid now? because of one bad week?

If you bought him, you bought him for fixtures: granted, the next one sucks, but the two after are fine. What gives?

Well yeah, I agree on that. This is why I never bought him: I don't think he's worth it.

But if you already bothered to drop that much cash, why get rid now?

Apropos of nothing, just watching Monday Night Steroid-Ball, I do think Premiership commentators could learn a lot from their American Football colleagues. I wonder what would happen if John Motson started waxing lyrical about what physical specimens the players are. "There goes Micah Richards, 190 lbs of pure muscle. His legs are the size of your head. Ooh..." "Yes, John, his thighs are the size of pumpkins".

It's bizarrely homoerotic, when you pause to think about it. And suddenly Penn State makes sense.

Scored 86 this week, my best this season so far. Need suggestion for next week

Here is my team ( I got 2 FT )

    Vorm/Schwarzer
    Ward/De Leat/Brown/Jones/Baines
    Dyer/Bale/Nani/Silva/Drenthe
    RVP/Bendtner/Sturridge

    0.2 in bank.

    Cheers in advance 🙂

Whe then I suppose your only option is swapping Bendtner to Helguson or Yakubu unless you downgrade Schwarzer to Sorensen / Cerny.

Right lads i'm fed up of Suarez so I might get rid even though he has QPR at home this week. Also losing patience with Brunt but obviously leaving him in for Wigan.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/917/history/

    Vorm, Westwood
    Jones, Enrique, Warnock, Simpson, Naylor
    Silva, VDV, Larsson, Brunt, Moses
    RVP, Suarez, Adebayor

    2 Freebies & £.8m
So this week i'm thinking Warnock & Suarez -> Kelly & Ba
Which leaves £4.3m to swap Naylor to Baines or Brunt to Nani / Bale next week.

    Any alternatives?
