Nemanja Vidic has suffered suspected knee ligament damage in tonight’s 2-1 Champions League defeat in Basel.

Vidic was stretchered from the proceedings a couple of minutes before half-time to be replaced by Jonny Evans with his team 1-0 down. United have tonight confirmed that they will await scans before offering a prognosis on the injury, although their early report indicates that the player himself fears he has sustained medial ligament damage having left the stadium on crutches.

The possibility of the United skipper being sidelined suddenly offers up a few quandaries for Fantasy managers.

There’s no doubt his return from a calf injury in gameweek 10 had an immediate effect on a previously shaky back line. The last five games have seen United return four clean sheets, with only a Demba Ba penalty preventing a clean sweep. Ahead of a favourable run of fixtures, the likes of Phil Jones have been transferred in by vast number of Fantasy numbers, with the champions’ defence looking formidable with Vidic alongside Rio Ferdinand in the heart of the back-four.

An absence for Vidic would surely have a significant effect on the plans of Fantasy managers. If he is out, only Patrice Evra could be the closest United defender to being nailed on but their resilience will surely drop without their skipper- can we really expect the same sort of defensive returns?

Jonny Evans could be set for a recall to the first team, having missed the last four and at 4.5 in FPL, could perhaps be a decent punt, given the cut-price outlay required. It remains to be seen how much game time he’d get if Vidic is confirmed as sidelined for a prolonged spell, although it’s worth noting that Alex Ferguson played him in nine of United’s first ten fixtures.

Phil Jones, at 6.4 and rising, looks set for more investment, with his adaptability vital to his game time, while Chris Smalling, at 5.2, could also come into plenty folks’ thinking.

We await further news from the United camp in the next 24-hours.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What do we think about Nani then? I thought he was United's best player tonight and he did his best to create a goal. My choice for this week really comes down to:

Nani & 6m Forward (probably Yakubu)

    or

    Bale & Ba.

What do you reckon to Bale vs Nani and Ba vs Yakubu over the next few weeks?

Oh and btw here are the relevant fixtures over the next few weeks:

Nani - WOL qpr ful WIG BLA new
Bale - sto SUN CHE nor swa WBA/EVE
Yakubu - sun WBA BOL liv mun STO
Ba ------- nor SWA WBA bol liv MUN

Bales DGW is a massive attraction but i do think Nani could be a shrew pick this week and even for the 2 London away games after.

      Bale & Ba

Nani's had two games where he's looked not bad again, but actually delivered very little final output

Bales been bringing home major bacon for weeks now

Probably not much between Yak and Ba

But if you're chasing them maybe Nani and Yak

Well i'm not really chasing anyone, just looking for the best way forward like everyone else! Although four red arrows in a row after my (short) stint in the top 1000 hasn't done much for confidence.

Having no United players has been a worry for a while and with their fixtures i think now may be time to bit the bullet and bring one in. Nani looks like the one.

They've had plenty of "easy" fixtures over the last two months as well and still looked poor

Spurs's upcoming games arent that much harder, if at all, and Bales much more on form

I'd have Bale over Nani every day of the week at the moment. In saying that though, I have them both

I disagree. I think Spurs do have harder fixtures plus i think Spurs have been playing about as well as they can over the last month or so. I don't expect any big returns at The Brittania on Sunday. United on the other hand, they have to respond and start scoring some goals. Obviously on current form Bale is well ahead but i was impressed with Nani today and i'm hoping to catch him on an upward curve.

Will have a think about it until Friday. Bale just seems a very safe pick. I'd be more keen if he had a decent fixture this week as well

Stoke at the Britannia wasnt the tough fixture it once was though, conceding 3 to both Newcastle and QPR.......

Indeed they did, but since those games you mentioned they are unbeaten, winning two and drawing one (in the Europa). Not to mention going to Everton and keeping a clean sheet last time out. Stoke - Spurs games always seem to be tight 2-1 the last few times

Oh and you are right about United having plenty of “easy” fixtures over the last two months as well and still looking poor. That is a worry. But they are proven quality, if they were ever gonna find their shooting boots it will be over the December/Xmas period

Have you noticed that Rooney became scoring shit right after his stupid kick @ the Euros. Every time he has done something silly his goals have dried up. I guess it's an indicator for the next time something happens with him.

After what I've seen the last couple games I would play Jones up front. He is young and hungry and doing a little bit of everything so far. It probably won't happen though but still he's a hell of a utility player!

Ferguson always does radical changes after a big hit so Nani, Young and yes Jones could end up as a striker. I read somewhere that even Man U's other utility player Valencia could end up playing there...

If common sense is the way to go then Wellbeck will partner Rooney like at the beginning of the season when Rooney was on fire.

yes I think Rooney will play just in behind Wellbeck. SAF will be wise to go back to a successful combination proven at the start of the season. Remember when it looked as if Welbeck was going to continue keeping Hernandez out of the team.

Yeah, that team looked amazingly efficient. As an Arsenal fan I shred a tear and nearly had a heart attack when they scored 8 against us.

People have been giving them a lot of shit recently for the 1 - 0's but Man U have mastered that scoreline for a very long time now. Every season they beat many teams like this and it has never been a problem. I guess people got teased with the avalanche of goals at the beginning of the season and thought it was going to continue...

Yes. Like I said before, with those players it will even up at the end of the day and you will end up losing the 8 points. I would leave it as is.

If you could post you're whole team it would definitely help towards giving you better advice I guess...

Hiya guys, just a little bored and a lot of RMT's up at the moment, so just wondered how mine stands?

    Westwood
    Enrique, Jones, BAE
    Silva, Walters, VDV, Walcott
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

    Subs: Ruddy: N.Taylor, Simpson, Ferguson

Right now, i have Hernandez & Ramsey instead of Ba and Walcott, but i am set on doing these changes tomorrow or Friday. Barring Ferguson, obviously, what do you's reckon?

OR, maybe some suggestions that differ with the Walcott & Ba move? i'm really liking Long as a punt as well! Cheers.

Despite United's poor form Id still be looking to bring Nani for their plum fixtures in the expense of Walcott and probably use the remaining funds to upgrade Ferguson to anyone as the hectic period is coming and you'd want a playing 3rd sub.

Sorry Yanky but still no on the transfers if you're taking hits for Evans specially.

Defense looks about right if Evans plays. I guess you have Kompany so you're Naylor, Kompany, Baines looks better. You have to play Baines if you have him, you never know when he's going to score regardless of clean sheets. With defenders that score goals you have to play them every week so you can get the results.

I'm doing Shawcross > Baines and Bendtner > Yakubu next week. I have my faith that Baines will come good for the coming gameweeks.

    Hey Guys,
Can anyone advise me on a second transfer this week? already bought Ba in, really stumped as what I should do? I feel I've had VDV for 2 weeks of no game time, I should hold out and hope he starts firing (I'll get shot if he's confirmed out) same scenario with Drenthe, bought him in on a WC and he's not played, I've wanted to flog Ramsey for so many weeks now but does it seem stupid when I've the other two as concerns? I've 2.4 in the bank so could do Ramsey - to - Bale, anyone?

    Vorm

    Simpson - Assou-Ekotto - Vermaelen

    Drenthe - Ramsey - VDV - Silva

Van Persie - Yakubu - Ba

    Subs...
    Ruddy - Baines - Wilkinson - Allen

Firstly you are playing Simpson over Baines?!!!!
Baines is basically a midfielder, treat him so and always play him. His dead ball delivery will cause problems especially if Verm is shifted to LB
Simpson is trying to hold together a broken defines and is away too!

Also your midfield is a bit hopeful and light, you need a home banker this week.
        ManU? Bolton, Liverpool??

        How about Ramsey to Adam?

Thats a really good point, so much talk about his attacking yet I am just thinking everton defender away to arsenal - no clean sheet, I'll start him cheers.

Yeh the no united coverage is concerning me, maybe Ramsey to Nani? but I'll have to shave a million off another player to make that move, more tinkering cheers guys.

I am sticking with the Bendy wagon, I don't care. He has to/ I say has to score against a Blackburn defence then get rid!
But I got a problem with young
    Team
    Vorm
Jones Enrique Brown ( Konpany , Simpson)
    Silva VDV Young ( Fergie)
    Bendy? Ade RVP
Got 1. 1 in the dodgy bank.
    Any suggestions?

Have a huge lump of cash from dropping Aguero to Ba. Feel it would be a sin to sit on all that cash this GW. Playing in a monthly head 2 head so not concerned with overall rank.

Anyone worth bringing in for a hit?

            Bale! Here is my thoughts
I did not and will not jump on that wagon, I missed it anyway!
I think Bale has tough fixtures STOKE ( No europa fixture and will get clobbered)
sun ( new manager wants to get the defence sorted first so super defensive v spurs away then chelsea ( derby they will want to beat spurs big time and new defensive system )
            Wildcard time then!
