Nicklas Bendtner is a doubt for Martin O’Neill’s debut bow at the Stadium of Light. Andre Santos expects to be out for three weeks, while Alan Pardew is still hopeful of having Fabricio Coloccini for Newcastle’s trip to Norwich on Saturday.

Spurs have confirmed this morning that Jermaine Jenas is likely to be out for the rest of the season. The midfielder, on loan at Aston Villa, picked up an Achilles injury in last weekend’s game against Man United and has since undergone surgery, with his parent club expecting him to be ready for the start of pre-season.

Blackburn skipper Chris Samba has backed Yakubu to grab 20 goals for the Ewood Park outfit this season after the Nigerian’s 4 goals against Swansea took his league tally to 9 for the season. The former Everton striker is proving a cut-price Fantasy Premier League gem so far this season and Samba revealed that facing Yakubu in training each week is keeping him on top of his own game.

Nicklas Bendtner may be out of Sunderland’s game with Blackburn on Sunday, according to Martin O’Neill. The new Black Cats boss is facing a forward crisis, with Dong Won-Ji and perhaps Ryan Noble vying with Stephane Sessegnon for a chance to lead the line in his first game in charge in the event of the big Dane’s absence. O’Neill admitted:

Nicklas has a groin problem and we’ll see how he is towards the weekend. But if the game was today, he wouldn’t make it as it stands.

While O’Neill also revealed he is considering recalling Asamoah Gyan from his loan spell with Al-Ain, reports suggest this is unlikely to materialize. The UAE club paid a substantial fee for the striker’s services and have seventeen leagues games still to play this season. Factor in Gyan’s African Cup of Nations duties with Ghana in the New Year, where he could be unavailable for up to six weeks, and the odds seem stacked against an early Wearside return.

Kenny Dalglish has revealed Liverpool have no fresh injury worries ahead of this weekend’s clash against QPR. Steven Gerrard is still ruled out but with Lucas sidelined for the season and Jay Spearing suspended for three games, the Reds boss has talked up the prospects of Jonjo Shelvey. The youngster was recalled from a loan spell at Blackpool due to Lucas’ injury and grabbed a couple of goals for the reserves in midweek.

Dalglish, while revealing the club won’t appeal Spearing’s ban, was scathing in his assessment of the FA’s handling of the Luis Suarez-Patrice Evra case. Suarez was charged with improper conduct for a gesture in Monday night’s match at Fulham but his manager is furious with the fact that the authorities have still failed to act on the alleged racism charge which has been hanging over Suarez’s head for nine weeks now.

Cheik Tiote and Danny Guthrie have both been ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to Norwich on Saturday. Alan Pardew reckons there is an “outside chance” that Fabricio Coloccini will be available for the Carrow Road showdown but was deliberately cagey over his central defensive plans:

I don’t want to give too much away. We had no centre halves by the end against Chelsea and 10 men on the pitch. Tamas is an option and up to speed- he is looking to kickstart his Newcastle career. Davide (Santon) and Danny (Simpson) are options.

Pardew also admitted Guthrie could be out of action for up to six weeks, though on a more positive not, announced that Steven Taylor has undergone successful surgery on his injured Achilles.

Andre Santos has confirmed he expects to be sidelined for three weeks. The Arsenal left-back picked up an ankle injury in the Champions League game at Olympiacos on Tuesday and has now received a prognosis of the problem after a doctor’s assessment. Reports suggest youngster Martin Angha could be promoted to the first-team with Arsene Wenger’s side so limited for options, though it’s more likely that Thomas Vermaelen will move from the centre to cover on the flank.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Talking about United's defence being poor without a Vidic, looking back over the games he was missing this year. They got 3 cleanies from 8 games:

3 cleanies came against: TOT, NOR and bol
5 non-cleanies came against: ARS, CHE, sto, liv and MCI

I think that to say they won't keep cleanies without Vidic is short sited - those 8 games saw them play all 5 of the other top 6 sides in contrast the hardest fixture in the next 5 for a cleanie is either ful or BLA.

    What do other people think?

Evans played a part in all of those clean sheets and missed the "easiest" of the non-CS games (sto).
        He's still awful though.

I'd be really surprised if he got regular starts... it would mean Jones staying in midfield, which I don't see happening on a regular basis. With Europe out the way, the centre mids will be from Fletcher / Giggs / Carrick / Gibson / Jones (on occasions).

Thoughts about what MUN and MCI dropping into Europa means for their FPL scores? My thoughts:

MUN: I don't know if Fergie is going to make a serious effort with Europa. He certainly doesn't in the FA or Carling Cups unless playing bitter rivals. I suspect he will be his usual pragmatic self and focus on the Prem with youth and out of favour squad players in Europa. So I expect a trusty first choice eleven unaffected by rotation to form as United try to make their customary Christmas charge.
Defensively you would think Fergie would play it safe after last night's disaster. Ferdinand and Smalling as CBs ahead of Evans, with Evra nailed on and RB rotated between Jones/Da Silva/Valencia?. Given Jones standing out at the minute and other mids injured or most certainly not, it's hard to see him out of the team and he could still continue as midfielder. Carrick and Fletcher to suffer as a result. I think the biggest questions are what to do with wingers Nani and Young and misfiring Rooney. Fergie has a more defensive 4-4-2 and an attacking 4-3-3 used to devastating effect early in the season. With Young and Welbeck available he has the forwards to play 4-3-3 (which excluded Hernandez, remember) but probably not the mids until Cleverley and Anderson return (months!). So expect 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 with Nani and Young as wingers and possibly Rooney playing in the hole for Welbeck. Personally I think Nani may be under threat from Valencia if he can't deliver the spectacular, but we'll see. The consequence of all of this I believe will be a continuation of poor scoring at the very least until Cleverley/Anderson/Sneijder 😉 return.

MCI: Mancini really doesn't care about the Europa League based on his efforts last year. Strictly an exercise in playing a second XI to appease the non-playing. In Europa League, Balotelli to get lots of gametime as he did, with Dzeko probably the sub. Expect runouts for underutilized midfielders too like Johnson, Barry, de Jong and *cough* Hargreaves. In defence again it's the second string (although some will be covering in the Prem with Richards and Kolarov injured) with Zabaleta, Clichy, K Toure and Savic (who I reckon was played last night to cover for the Chelsea match this weekend).
That means in FPL given current injuries you can expect a defence of Clichy, Kompany, Lescott and Zabaleta/Savic. Midfield has Silva and Y Toure nailed on with Nasri playing more often as he was previously deployed often in UCL. Johnson, Milner and Barry I expect to fight it out in that order of frequency. Aguero and Dzeko as regular starters up front. In the light of comments from City's coach about them inevitably conceding more because they have more attacking players who can't defend, expect plenty of goals to continue with a good few let in.

I hope your right about sneijder 😉 but Jones seems pretty nailed on, I think europa serves as a perfect chance for pogba, morisson etc. as for rooney, he hasn't been misfiring at all, only FPL wise, he's been in great form otherwise

"Great form" is pushing it with Rooney. I'd say his form isn't as bad as his goal-scoring suggests but it's certainly not at it's best.

Fair point, the tactical changes haven't helped Rooney and he's not playing terrible. But even the reduced chances he gets are not being converted by him and I don't see anyone else stepping up to say it's their job. I saw the chances spurned against Basel and Rooney should have done better given the player he is.

Well I guess that Fergie will concentrate on the League now as that's pretty much all they've got left. Full rotation to continue. Rooney and Nani getting time but doing not much to earn their price tag atm.

City's title to lose (even tho' we've got a long long way to go). Mancini is also perfecting the full rotation with a few exceptions; Kompany, Yaya, Lescott etc

Two most difficult to pick for aside from Arsenal's mess at the back.

Vermaelen, Vermaelen, Vermaelen, Vermaelen? Sounds good to go!!

Cripes I don't trust any of the other ones! Mertesacker? Weak and slow. Koscielny? Unpredictable and unconvincing. Gibbs - I don't actually feel anything here. Sagna is out til kingdom comes, I'm doing my best not to write off Jenkinson but I'd 8-2 play him, and Squillaci? SQUILLACI? Hahahahaha...

Last night was the first football match I've watched in absolutely ages. Usually just concentrate on the fantasy game.

Good grief Man Utd were awful. What happened to all the great players like Hughes, Cantona, Kanchelskis, Ronaldo, RVN?

And how absolutely dire was Rooney? I thought he was, you know, a striker?

the commentator claimed rooney had a very good game aside from his miss.
firstly that miss deserves to ruin anything else he did in the other 89mins, it's the equivalent of a goalkeeper doing a taibi. secondly i really didn't see this good performance

I know. Same commentator, after a 5 - 10 minute period of Basel possession/Utd frustration finally punctuated by a stunted Utd break, remarked on the 'wave after wave of Manchester United attacks'. I think some commentators treat Utd fans like they treat Rooney.

Either this is a classic WUM, or we were watching different matches. From what I saw, I thought MU deserverd to win comfortably - they just needed a proper striker up top, as they were creating tons of chances. Chico would have won them that game by 2 or 3, but SAF should have at least started Wellbeck.

Obviously their general play was ok. They're Man Utd. But really quality athletes strike when they need to. The likes of Federer or Sampras got an ace when they needed one, not by luck. A top striker would have scored one of those chances. If he'd been banging in four every week you might be able to argue that he was unlucky last night.

Alright? How to spend my millions... (3.2m)

    My team:

    Ruddy Vorm
    Wilko Simpson Macauley Vermaelen Brown
    Mata Silva Arteta Drenthe Moses
    RVP Ba Adebayor

Option 1: Save a transfer for next week, looking at one of:
    Ade >Roonpig
    Arteta>Nani
    Drenthe>Yaya - depending who's looking good.

Option 2: Upgrade Wilko and Simpson with Enrique and Evans/Smalling Or just one of them to Jones.
    That would be this week.

Or secret Option 3! (please state)

    Any opinions much appreciated Ta!

I've subscribed to the FFS Members area to start clawing back a 100 point deficit in my mini league in the remaining 2/3's of the season.

    I need differential and fast.

Therefore, looking at the stats, I noticed Dempsey has the highest goal threat of any midfielder, the highest attempt ratio and with a 59% shooting accuracy looks a good bet to score against a Swansea that (whilst usually strong at home) look to be running out of steam.

So am I insane in thinking of making him my captain this week? (Other obvious choices from my team are Adebayor, Aguero, Lampard, Mata and Ba).

        I can't afford RVP (yet).

My team is pretty poor currently (hence the deficit) - so much so that I nearly considered a 28pt hit to get it right! If it wasn't for the upcoming WC, I'd have been tempted.
