A strong set of upcoming fixtures for Newcastle sees Demba Ba elevated in our recently updated Watchlist rankings. With a single point in their last three matches, Alan Pardew’s side will be looking for a return to winning ways, having previously remained unbeaten in the first eleven gameweeks of the season.

The Senegal hitman struggled to make an initial impact at St James’ Park and, with just a single assist in the first five gameweeks, dropped from 6.5 to 6.1 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). This lack of form, as Pardew later admitted, was down to religious beliefs; Ba, a devout Muslim, fasted during Ramadan and looked anything but the barnstorming striker he has subsequently proved to be.

A hat-trick against Blackburn in gameweek six started a run of games that has seen Ba score or assist in all but two of his last nine appearances and demonstrated one of the most impressive levels of Fantasy consistency so far this season. A total of 9 goals leaves him fourth joint–top scorer alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and a return of 12 bonus points has been bettered only by Robin Van Persie, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor.

With 3 assists also added to the mix, Ba currently sits on 80 FPL points – in terms of “value” for the season, he’s top of the rankings for any outfield player so far and his average of 6.2 points per game is the same as David Silva. Priced now at 7.0, Ba still looks an absolute steal.

Next up is a run of games (nor, SWA, WBA, bol) that looks hugely promising for Newcastle. While the back-four has been decimated with injuries over the last few days, Pardew may have no alternative but to attack more, if solidity at the back is less assured. Those four fixtures offer plenty optimism before things stiffen up in gameweek 19, with a trip to Liverpool followed by a home clash against Man United.

Ba is, of course, participating in this season’s African Cup of Nations and will be unavailable over some, if not all of January dependant on Senegal’s results, but will be looking to plunder the points before he heads off, starting at Carrow Road this Saturday.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Should I bring in Nani, Mata, Adam or Ashley young for Sinclair?

I'll be waiting until he does rather than risk trying to be there when it happens. Too risky with Rvp as he is. Also, Arsenal have scored more Prem league goals against Everton than any other team has scored against any other team.

I was before the Basel game.

Rooney mentally is frustrated - not scoring, playing with average players like Park and off form ones like Young and now travelling back after his ban appeal.

Hopefully the reduction of his ban will spur him on to regain his form.

      RVP(c), Rooney(vc).

The problem this week, I think is choosing strikers.. Robin Van Persie is a good option.. But I cant see so many other obvious goalscorers.. Bent haven,t scored in previous 3 matches, but Bolton seems like a good oportunity to score. He takes the penalties, and freekicks sometimes..

what do you guys think about bent this week??

    Right, really stuck this week and need a hand. Was gonna start this bunch;

    Vorm
    Enrique - Walker - Brown
    Bale - Silva - Walters - Sessengnon
    Rooney (c) - RVP - Adeboyor

with Begovic, Heitinga, Simpson and Dyer on the bench

UGO... etc, I'd think about Sess to Brunt, WBrom has three decent fixs lined up (WIG, bla, new) although it may be a bit sideways. I'd save the FT this GW, see how Rooney does against WOL, if no good (again) I'd think hard about shipping him and Sess, could get Ba and Mata.

I'd just do Suarez to Ba if I were you. Ramsey is next to useless at the moment, but always a slight chance at home.

wouldn't worry too much re man utd cover.

Ditching Suarez for Ba frees up alot of cash....leaving you with a lot of choice next week to take your pick of the Man Ud players...possibly even go for Baines in defence to prepare for the dgw and everton's very good fixtures.

Johnny Evan @ £4.4m looks a right bargain. Especially if you already have Jones or Smalling too you can't lose.

bizarre comment, of course you can lose

without Vidic they are not the same defence

you also have no space for an attacking Utd player, precisely what you would want given a weakened Utd defence - they'll need to score more

So all your eggs are in the same basket - Utd concede just 1 and you're screwed

Any thoughts on Ba vs. Yakubu?

Could use that spare 1.5m or so elsewhere...unless Ba is going to outscore Yakubu big time...

Depends what else you have in mind, if you want to upgrade elsewhere then go for Yak. I would because with the 2 x CB gone I reckon the wheels could come of big style for Newcastle

I would prefer Ba for fixtures and form, he is consistent, the Yak is rarely consistent and is always on a knife edge between fitness and injury. That being said, I am not sure Ba will outscore Yakubu "big time", but I know who I would prefer of those two, I have gone for Sturridge this weekend however.

I would probably prefer Ba and then a swap to sturridge later all things being equal. However, although Ba's fixtures are better I dont think Sturridge's are that bad actually. Plus, he really seems to be finding some form lately, I think he'll likely score big quite soon so i may go with Sturridge and save the swap

League leader in my works mini league has Ba, RVP and Adebayor so I may go for The Yak instead for a differential.

Also that £1.5m means I can get Mata in, go for Phil Jones and Vermaelen in defence over the next few weeks and still have some change in my back pocket.

Its a shame as I'd really like Ba but holdng onto Roonpig for too damn long has now meant its catch up time.

DILEMA: No man.u or newcastle coverage for this gameweek.

    1) just do b.johnson > nani and have no united coverage

    2) just do bendtner > Ba and have no newcastle coverage

    3) do b.johnson & Bendtner > nani and ba for my 1st 4 point hit of the season
