Suspensions

Frank Lampard was the man on the spot last night – his penalty winner from the bench seeing off Manchester City’s unbeaten league record – but a combination of Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection and his presence on our Suspension Tightrope has seen Fantasy confidence stall. It’s worth noting however, that Lampard’s fourth yellow was picked up as long ago as October, and he’s played a part in seven domestic games without further reprimand since. In the meantime, it’s been Lampard’s Chelsea midfield team-mates who’ve been picking up their fair share of bookings, with yellows shown to both Ramires and Raul Meireles in last night’s win, meaning they now take up the less than comfy seats alongside Lampard on the tightrope.

There are also two new additions from Sunday’s games, where Blackburn’s old stager, Míchel Salgado; and Lampard’s England teammate, Scott Parker; both fell foul of the referee’s notebook in losses to Sunderland and Stoke respectively. That takes the tightrope numbers up to 14 players, nervously tip-toeing their way through the remaining four gameweeks until the five yellow card amnesty kicks in on New Year’s day. They will hope that they don’t go the way of Gabby Agbonlahor – who, as detailed in Saturday’s article, fell off the high wire and into a one-match ban for the round of fixtures in gameweek 16, when his Aston Villa visit Anfield.

Moving on to the weekend’s red cards – we’ve already covered Dan Gosling’s straight red for an over the top challenge on Norwich’s Russell Martin; that will see him miss the next three for Newcastle (SWA, WBA, bol). Since then, we’ve also seen Younes Kaboul given his marching orders for two yellow card fouls against Stoke on Sunday, and Gaël Clichy similarly dismissed for a pair of punishable indiscretions in the 2-1 away defeat last night. Both these players will be missing for their clubs for their next matches, Spurs at home to Sunderland, and Man City hosting Arsenal.

A final point to note is that Luis Suarez, who was originally given until 4pm yesterday to answer his latest improper conduct charge (the gesture to Fulham fans), has had this deadline extended while he prepares his defence. With the other long standing charge already hanging over him, there is currently no word yet on whether this one will run and run as well.

Gameweek 16 Bans

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) – 5 Yellow cards (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Third of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Gaël Clichy (Manchester City) – 1 Red for 2 Yellow cards (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)
  • Younes Kaboul (Tottenham) – 1 Red for 2 Yellow cards (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – 4 bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)

Does anybody know what's the situation with Drenthe, is he going to be fit?

    Also:

got 1 transfer, 2,5 in the bank

    Krul, Al Habsi
    Enrique, Vermaelen, R.Taylor, Naylor, Gabbidon
    Silva, VDV, Arteta, Drenthe, Moses
    Ade, RVP, Yak

What transfer you reckon the best option? Thinkin of Arteta -> Nani...

What Premiership team has spent the most money on players between 2000-2010?

Good question. I have no evidence, but would imagine it is Chelsea. but would depend on whether you include youth development, player wages, purchases-v-sales.

(Also, my own colleague reprimanded for calling it the Premiership recently - it's now just the Premier League)

I got absolutely berated by a regular poster for putting this up a few days ago when I dared to suggest that City had underachieved by not getting through to the knockout stages of the champions league.

Maybe a slight underachievement, but to be fair it was a hard group and they picked up 10 points in their first season in the CL which is not bad. A huge spending the last few years doesn't guaranteed instant success.

Here's the table of 03-11, you might have to do some of the maths yourself to get the exact timeframe but the info is all there, http://www.transferleague.co.uk/league-tables/2003-2011.html

Morning again, guys. Just been updating my ticker for this week's results.

Also, just received an email back from FPL Towers:

On 12/12/11 11:17, Michael Westcombe wrote:
    Dear Sir/Madam/Ms,

Would you care to express the thinking behind the award to Szczezny of 20 PPI, while Vorm got only 19, this week?

    Regards,
    Michael Westcombe

    Hi there

Bonus points are awarded based on the players' Player Performance Index. Usually bonus points are awarded to first (3), second (2) and third (1) positions.

For more information on how the PPI is generated please follow this link: http://www.premierleague.com/page/EAIndex/0,,12306,00.html

Vorm came fourth in the index for the match so unfortunately he was not awarded any bonus points.

    Regards

🙄 Please take note of the "usually" in there, though ... 😕

Guys I am so sick of this game. I know I am a noob, but this game is so unpredictable. I work so hard everyday every night and all I get is this.

    1) How could Sturridge not get bonus? Wasn't he the best? I saw the game in BBC commentary.
    2) How did Vorm not get bonus? Isn't he the best? I didn't watch the game though.
    3) How about Evans & Enrique? I didn't watch the games but BBC kept saying they were making clearances and winning aerial duels.
    4) How did Sinclair get 3 bonus points? BBC says Dempsey scored the goal.
    5) How did Moses end up on my bench? FPL should bring him in for my lowest-scoring player, he's god!
    6) Why are we allowed to make only 1 transfer every week?
    7) Why is Rooney not as popular as RVP?

I have so many questions. I don't know where to start.

I'm going to quit the game. 🙁

I know but it's a bit douchey posting that much sarcasm when you have a really good week!

Lost PPC game, also lost my 3rd consecutive game in that other one 🙁

Won in the new one, but don't think I deserved to, to be honest!

Saw my lead cut dramatically in my other mini-league as well.

Hence I'm finding it very hard to hang on to a rotation risk, 10mil, maybe not on pens, injury prone, Dutch douche bag.

                Firstly, it's not about me.

Whenever I've been coming into this forum since yesterday, most questions have peaked more than irritating levels - "Will Studge get an assist?" or "Why did Vorm & Studge not get BPs?" and so on.

Congrats on the "new one". Which one though?

I am just as shocked with you about 1 & 2

I think Evans didn't get a bp on the basis that he's the worst defender in the league and the EA computer doesn't register anything he does.

I can't believe you still have Moses.....a strike rate of 1 in 46 shots is shocking! But now that he's on a "run" you are going to have to play him lol

I like the tactics involved in having just the 1 transfer, it would spoil the game for me otherwise.

Rooney isn't as popular cause he hadn't scored in 8 games before this gw.

    Team for GW16:

    Krul (Vorm)
    Jones Simpson Enrique
    Bale Nani Silva Walters
    Adebayor Sturridge RVP

    Subs: Ward Brown Dyer
    (Bank: 1.5)

I'm thinking of doing Brown > Jagielka and then pushing Simpson to the bench. I could opt for Walker, but that takes the 3 Spurs spots up and still want to have room for VDV in the next few weeks.

Any alternative transfers you feel is better?

Phenomenal scoring! 100+ in a gameweek with any double fixtures is outrageous. Good to see another Agger owner too. 😉

Moses sure is a heartbreaker. Played him for so many of his 2 pointers (and constantly bigging him up on here in the mornings) and he's sat on my bench for his 6 and 13 pointers.

Wolves next two fixtures are quite simply lovely. So which one to get OHara or Jarvis.

Jarvis's form has really picked up the last few weeks, OHara has dipped and he's basically only had one good week.

Jarvis looks good for a nailed on 5-10 pt per week prospect. Looking for a RAmsey replacement as part of my ongoing deliberations this week.

Ugh, I had Jarvis for about 6 weeks and then went for Ramsey, two shockers, don't think I could go for Jarvis regardless again. Also, I am not overly sold on all the O'Hara love, I know it was United, but he did nothing on Saturday that made me think he had potential, I think his massive head just freaks me out a little too much.

I had the opposite with Jarvis...had him at the start he scored me loads of pts, made a profit...he then did nothing, I transferred him during his barren spell, he's now picking up again.

I agree with Ohara, got a great free kick on him but not a good fpl prospect.

    Saha:
"When a player like Drenthe came at the last moment and Arteta left, it is disturbing. We had to find our bearings again."

Not sure how, if any way to interpret this. Probably meaningless but the lack of news on Drenthe is infuriating.

I look at it as it being a bad swap - "disturbing" ie. Arteta being a better player than Drenthe in Saha's eyes.

I guess that COULD be something sounding worse in text/interview than it was intended, but it sounds pretty much to me as if Drenthe has made himself impopular with the squad already.

Not trying to tell you all that I told you instantly that he'd be a trouble maker, but I did. A lot of times.

    Advice needed:

.1 in the bank; had one and already made one transfer this week (Brown - out / Jagielka - in)...

    Vorm
    Baines, Jagielka, Simpson
    VDV, Bale, Silva, Eagles
    Kun, Adebayor, Ba

    Subs: Given, Naylor, Shawcross, Dyer

I just know what's going to happen this weekend, all of us over-thinkers on here will think RVP can't possibly do very well against City, and he will, and all of the casuals won't even spare a thought for changing their captain from RVP and rake it in.

Adebayor, VDV or Nani for me (C), I think.

We could be set got RVP v Chelsea Mk II.

I'm very strongly considering Baines(c) as he is such a differential and loads of people hate it on here when he gets points considering his premium pricetag

so i guess you want BAE or Jags for the dgw? I'd go BAE (i have him myself). Thought he looked a threat until he was taken off last game, which was unusual. Cit dont keep clean sheets so i'd only look at Richdars but he is currently injured.
