Micah Richards is on course for a return against Arsenal this weekend. The Toure brothers are to delay their departure for the African Cup of Nations. Damian Duff returns for Fulham in tonightโ€™s Europa League game with Odense, while Mike Williamson hands Alan Pardew a fitness boost by returning to reserve action yesterday.

Reports suggest Micah Richards is set to be fit for Man Cityโ€™s clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The right-back missed out at Chelsea in his sideโ€™s first loss of the campaign but Roberto Mancini is confident he will be ready for the weekend. With Aleksandar Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, Mancini hinted Richardsโ€™ return would allow him to play Pablo Zabaleta in the left-back position against the Gunners.

Mancini also received a boost ahead of next monthโ€™s African Cup of Nations. The Italian is a former team mate of Ivory Coast manager Francois Zahoui and their relationship has reportedly allowed him to delay the departure of Yaya and Kolo Toure for vital cup clashes. The tournament starts on January 21 and participants can call up their players a fortnight before the kick-off but City are expected to be allowed to hold on to the pair for their FA Cup clash with Man United on the 8th, as well as the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Liverpool three days later.

Fabian Delph has returned to Aston Villa training ahead of the home clash with Liverpool. The midfielder missed Saturdayโ€™s win at Bolton with a knee knock but assistant boss Peter Grant expects him to be available for selection this weekend, as the fixtures start to pick up pace.

Gael Givet is set to give the Blackburn back line a boost by returning to action this weekend. The left-back was subbed off at Sunderland due to heart palpitations but has trained ahead of Saturdayโ€™s Ewood Park clash with West Brom.

Yesterdayโ€™s news that Darren Fletcher is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a bowel condition looks set to further boost the game time of Phil Jones. With Nemanja Vidic also ruled out for the season, the Scotsmanโ€™s unfortunate illness also leaves a gap in the championsโ€™ central midfield. Jonesโ€™ versatility has seen him play in central midfield of late and with the ability to shift to right-back or centre-half also in his locker, Jones seems to be an integral part of the United first-team over the ensuing months.

Mike Williamson came through 45 minutes of Newcastleโ€™s reserve clash with Bolton yesterday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew fielded a back-four without any recognised centre-halves at Norwich but Williamsonโ€™s recovery, in addition to the possibility of Fabricio Colocciniโ€™s return for the weekend game at home to Swansea, will be a welcome boost over the festive period.

Damian Duff has recovered from a calf problem in time for Fulhamโ€™s Europa League game with Odense this evening. Danny Murphy continues to miss out due to an ankle injury and Mark Schwarzer is expected to shrug off a spine problem to take his place between the sticks.

    My team for this week:

    Szczesny (mci)
Simpson (SWA), BAE (SUN), Jagielka (NOR), Jones (qpr)
O'Hara (STO), Drenthe (NOR), Bale (SUN)
Ba (c) (SWA), Rooney (qpr), RvP (mci)

Subs: Hilario, Walters (wol), Enrique (avl), Dyer (new)

1.5 in the bank. Was thinking of doing Hilario to Howard for the next 2 game weeks but thinking I might just ride out Szczesny this week and have 2 FT's next week. I think Drenthe will be back for Everton this week so holding on to him. Any thoughts?

    REPOST

Where have the budget options in midfield and defence gone? There are absolutely none that I can see.

There are plenty of budget options up front but you can’t fit them all in. It’s becoming more and more common but I see people saying they wish they had a 4th striker spot instead of a 5th midfield/defender spot and I have to agree.

I would love to have a frontline of RVP, Ade, Ba (and Sturridge).

I think it may not be the pricing as such but more the policy on price rises is definitely to blame.

Price rises are extremely volatile. If you didn't get on the Vorm, Jones, Enrique, Raylor bandwagons etc quite early you have to pay quite a bit more than expected for these "bargain" defenders.

In my WC 4 weeks ago I tried to pick the second wave of "risers" in Brown, Wilkinson, Naylor but it has failed miserably. To think I had Jones and Enrique in my team for quite a bit too ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

The price rises are extra volatile this year because the transfers in target remains the same no matter how many rises have occurred in the gameweek. In the past I think they doubled or tripled it so that it would take truly colossal demand to rise three times in a week as many players have this season. On the flipside, I'm pretty sure from observing CTC that they've capped the maximum weekly price rise at 0.3 as a safeguard.

On the previous responses I got.
      1. Moses wouldn't be bad shout if Wigans fixtures weren't now diabolical. I actually made a horrible mistake changing him to Allen 4 weeks ago. Never thought I'd say that.
      2. Evans seems a decent shout.
      3. If Formica is the best we can come up with as a budget midfield option it is extremely indicative of this current situation. Bargepole this one Atilla.

I've gone with 4 big hitters in midfield and 2 cheap striking options.

It's my plan to catch up some ground over xmas, using my transfers to rotate cheap strikers going by their fixtures.

May not work but worth a shot I think.

Sturridge for the forseeable future. Yakubu for the next 2 weeks (nice fixtures) and just about pipped Fletcher for me. And then I have my eye on Klasnic looking at Bolton's fixtures after those 2 weeks, or possibly Holt/Morison. Then hopefully will be able to get Ba in or possibly Agbonlahor depending on form.

I think if you like the look of your team in the first week then don't waste it. You never know you could get a few injuries/suspensions the next week and regret it.

Most weeks you are in the top million - that's good for your first season.

I always tend to blow my load early with wildcards. I also think the earlier in the season that you use it, the more helpful it is. The January wildcard only came in last year. It's quite handy, but really I can't see myself changing more than 5 of my players, but it'll depend how many ACON players I acquire between now and then.

Yeah I doubt I'll chance many players. You also need to be wary of prices, depending on what players you got, you could end up losing a hell of a lot of money unwittingly. People forget this while changing their whole team. Then wonder why they can't get the same players in that they used to be able to afford.

You've made a decent start. You do have a few injuries lying around and I think you could tighten the team up a bit. In January many people will be wildcarding near the start and you can expect lots of price changes. If you wildcard at the start and pick popular players early, you can make a lot of money and set yourself up very well for the rest of the season. On the flipside, if you wildcard late you might not be able to afford players who've risen. But you might avoid making bad rushed decisions and you'll be able to take advantage of any January transfers.

Oliwero, the answer to the first question is anybody's guess, we've had so little Drenthe news. And a big fat no to the second question, in my opinion, not for a hit. DVD is fit and should start at home to SUN, and don't be surprised if he returns to pens duty either.

I've kept him from the start and decided to keep despite his poor form because of last weeks fixture. He got loads of points and thought I'd got one over on my rivals. Then i checked their teams and literally all of them had brough him in last week and one or two had captained him.

I know he's been useless but he's also a decent prospect (he really should've had a couple 8s in this bunch of 2s) however my main concern is that he might end up subject to rotation over xmas. Do you think he will be rotation risk? And therefore should I get rid for Walters for a -4?

Mac, I can't see Ramsey being dropped for anything more than the odd (rest) game. What are Wonga's option? Frimpong (limited creativity), Diaby (injured), Wilshire (injured)? But his lack of points is very frustrating, especially given the chances he is getting. Allowed a brilliant cross from Walcott to bypass him against Eve, should have been a tap-in.

And it would be madness IMO, to dump OOP Walters. He's still scoring consistently well despite Stoke's patchy form, and who's better for the money?

Is something messing with my head or are people honestly considering getting rid of Silva? City are no longer in the Champs league and therefore he wont be dropped any more to be rested. He's an FPL machine and if he'd not been fowled by Bosingwa on Monday he'd have had a goal in that game too.

What's the general verdict on Shotton? Wait another game or get him whilst he's at his lowest value? He looks a great prospect as a defender, especially when Stoke are at home.

Another point.. Although I've got Smalling I want to comment on the sudden influx of cheap UTD defenders into people's teams.

Without Vidic UTD's defence is not really the same defence. Evans is cheap for a reason lol.

Yeah Evans and Smalling are cheap and without Vidic they are not the same defence but it's still Man United and with Rio and Evra they can patch up and become a steady back 4 again. Especially with the next 6 matches they won't be shipping goals so it's not much of a gamble when there is clean sheet potential at a low price.

Compare it with Kompany who is one of the expensive defenders who hasn't kept a clean sheet in 9 games and only scored twice this season.

just feel that other forwards (with a bit of form over the last few weeks) have a better chance against "weaker" teams in the other games.

What's the betting that Spurs Everton will be the only DGW all season...

Can anyone remember a season with little or no DGWs?

      No actually...
But the rest of December, January and February are still to come. That opens up the possibility of building a squad for the DGW then January-wildcarding for another DGW in January.

If Evans starts even 80-90% of games over Christmas he is an absolute bargain for me.

I need to get Wilkinson out but I think I'm gonna go for another 4.0, but a definite starter.

        Go for Caulker.

I also have Wilkinson, and am upset by his suddenly not playing. he looked dangerous on the attack, and the mistakes by Stoke have not been coming from his side of the pitch.

Yeah I looked at him. Already have N.Taylor though, and need to decide between Krul/Vorm for keeper.

2 Swansea defenders is probably too much, and 2 and a keeper definitely is!

Evans. I don`t think there will be too much in it this week but you`ll then have evans in place for weeks 18 and 19 when he should score very well.

I'd go with Evans - although he's not everybody's favourite, I think he played most of the games in that run a couple of seasons ago when we went hours and hours without conceding. I think he's pretty nailed on with Vidic out (more so than Smalling imo) and goes up for corners too.

Hmm, I'd prefer to have another week to see United w/o Vidic and see how Coloccini and Tiote return this week to be honest, but if I had to choose, I'd bring in Evans, as I already have Simpson ๐Ÿ˜€

Afternnon folks, been trying to get a response to the below mess for a bit now, but no joy so far....nayone care to comment?

    Team for this week:

    Krul
    Wilkinson,Taylor, Vermaelen
    Bale, Walters, Nani, Silva
    Adebayor(c), Yakubu, Van Persie

    Vorm McAuley Eagles Brown

I know the defence is a mess with every player away from home (not sure how i let that happen) but bugger all i can do about it now. FT done for this week, but is above line-up the best I can muster with the what i’ve got to work with

Not sure Wilkinson will play. Probably worth taking a hit. Don't forget, those away this week are also away next week. Or maybe just accept you'll have a nothing defence this week.

      Strikers - good.
      Midfielders - good.
      Defence - awful.
      Keeper - okay.

The problem is taking a hit on the defence seems like a bad idea. It's okay though if it's for a long-term transfer where they'll keep more CS/get more attacking points. What about one of the cheapies for Evans, say Wilkinson/Brown, as a long term investment in the MUN defence.
