Micah Richards is on course for a return against Arsenal this weekend. The Toure brothers are to delay their departure for the African Cup of Nations. Damian Duff returns for Fulham in tonight’s Europa League game with Odense, while Mike Williamson hands Alan Pardew a fitness boost by returning to reserve action yesterday.

Reports suggest Micah Richards is set to be fit for Man City’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The right-back missed out at Chelsea in his side’s first loss of the campaign but Roberto Mancini is confident he will be ready for the weekend. With Aleksandar Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, Mancini hinted Richards’ return would allow him to play Pablo Zabaleta in the left-back position against the Gunners.

Mancini also received a boost ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations. The Italian is a former team mate of Ivory Coast manager Francois Zahoui and their relationship has reportedly allowed him to delay the departure of Yaya and Kolo Toure for vital cup clashes. The tournament starts on January 21 and participants can call up their players a fortnight before the kick-off but City are expected to be allowed to hold on to the pair for their FA Cup clash with Man United on the 8th, as well as the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Liverpool three days later.

Fabian Delph has returned to Aston Villa training ahead of the home clash with Liverpool. The midfielder missed Saturday’s win at Bolton with a knee knock but assistant boss Peter Grant expects him to be available for selection this weekend, as the fixtures start to pick up pace.

Gael Givet is set to give the Blackburn back line a boost by returning to action this weekend. The left-back was subbed off at Sunderland due to heart palpitations but has trained ahead of Saturday’s Ewood Park clash with West Brom.

Yesterday’s news that Darren Fletcher is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a bowel condition looks set to further boost the game time of Phil Jones. With Nemanja Vidic also ruled out for the season, the Scotsman’s unfortunate illness also leaves a gap in the champions’ central midfield. Jones’ versatility has seen him play in central midfield of late and with the ability to shift to right-back or centre-half also in his locker, Jones seems to be an integral part of the United first-team over the ensuing months.

Mike Williamson came through 45 minutes of Newcastle’s reserve clash with Bolton yesterday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew fielded a back-four without any recognised centre-halves at Norwich but Williamson’s recovery, in addition to the possibility of Fabricio Coloccini’s return for the weekend game at home to Swansea, will be a welcome boost over the festive period.

Damian Duff has recovered from a calf problem in time for Fulham’s Europa League game with Odense this evening. Danny Murphy continues to miss out due to an ankle injury and Mark Schwarzer is expected to shrug off a spine problem to take his place between the sticks.

Is Ryan Shotton actually going to start many games??

I've fallen for these players to much this season thinking bringing them in is clever and then they flatter to do anything (ie HBA).

I reckon so, Pennant has apparently had a big falling out with Pulis. And he can also play RB, don't take my word for it but he's on my watchlist for next week.

Very simple answer to this one. Wait for the two easy home games in gameweeks 18 and 19, and if he's still in the side then, and particularly if he's playing in midfield, then sub him in. Then you get rid on the January wildcard if he gets dropped.

No way he's ever going to be one for the season, mind.

Bolton are awful, Murphy takes penalties .. Man U play away from home twice so definitely not worth the hit in my opinion.

Thoughts on this potential transfer would be appreciated, I feel it's a close call:

Defence: Verm, Jones, Williams, Brown, De Laet

    1FT no cash

    Brown–>Simpson

    or

    Brown–>Evans

    or

    Do nothing and save FT.

i don't understand all the Mata love. I think hes too expensive for the returns he gets. IMO a 9+ priced midfielder needs to return double figures at least every 4 or 5 GWs so that he can be considered (c) material and thus earn this high price tag and needs to be returning BPs as well. Mata has only returned double figures 2 times and 3 BPs whereas if u look at nani, silva,VdV,Bale they all returned 4-5 double figures and have 10+ BPs....im still not convinced with Mata FPL-wise and its too risky to captain him...Its enough to watch him 😀

Haha, not my favourite, just one I say quite a bit
He has the most goals/assists per minute than any other midfielder bar Silva.
Also, I think the Swansea/QPR games could have been different stories if it weren't for Torres/Bosingwa/Drogba getting reds, and therefore Mata sacrificed..

Yes, and he seems to be coming more into the fold as being a key influence in their team. Perhaps as time goes on that will mean he is less likely to be the player taken out. And with Luiz on AVB's naughty step, Chelsea might not be getting a red card any time soon.

Tough to choose Mata over Nani though.

The fact that he tends to be the player sacrificed when Chelsea get a red card counts against him, though.

Also, does that suggest that he is likely to be the player sacrificed if Chelsea are hanging on to a lead and want to tighten up?

Really struggling with who to transfer this week. I've established that the players that need binning from my team are: Wilkinson, Drenthe, Brown, Ramsey and Ward, but no idea who to take out first. I find it worrying that I have no United or Chelsea coverage in my team.

Was thinking about doing Wilkinson OUT, Evans In as my first transfer. But wondering, due to the fact I have so many players that need binning, would it be worth taking a four point hit to try and get some more United/Chelsea coverage in my team than just Evans. Would love to hear people's advice/opinions.

My team at the moment is:

    Vorm, Krul
    Wilkinson, Ward, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    VDV, Ramsey, Silva, Walters, Drenthe
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

I have 1 free transfer and 1.1 in the bank. Thanks in advance!

2 free transfers this week so I'm just looking for a few opinions... again. I'd appreciate it if you selected one from option A, B, C or D

    A) VDV out for Nani and Ramsey out for O'Hara

    B) VDV out for Nani and Ramsey out for Formica

    C) Kompany out for Walker and Ramsey out for O'Hara

    D) Kompany out for Walker and Ramsey out for Formica

To be honest, O'Hara and Formica probably aint the best midfielders in that price bracket so I'd be open to any other suggestions. I'm just trying to add some money to my currently 0.5 bank so I can bring Rooney in for Adebayor just for gameweek 18 and 19 before returning to the spurs player for gameweek 20 obviously 😛

Nice for free, but wouldn't pay for it ...

Don't see why you'd wanna swap De Gea for Krul when United have got such favourable fixtures coming up?

Also I don't see why you'd be thinking about getting Vorm now if you haven't already got him, he's 4.9 mil and Swansea's good fixtures are drying up.

Don't get Krul for now, the Newcastle defence isn't in the shape to be keeping clean sheets. And spending two trannies on keepers around Christmas is nuts, unless you have a really great team that needs no transfers, which you probably don't.

Keep one of the keepers that you already have, and sub the other one out for one that rotates in well until the January wildcard. If you have the money around Friedel could be a sneaky good shout.

I'm just worried cause De Gea doesn't always play due to rotation and Jones seems to be a really good option for long term too and quiet good at his current price. And yah I guess buying Vorm right now is pretty insane sorry wasn't really thinking about that. Still not sure whether to do the transfers :

RVP, Rooney and Nani "could" all score pretty good.

Think Ba will potentially get a hatrick though and I'm pretty confident he would score at least one.

I had Nani captain last weekend, so the odds on my call's being good two weeks on the run is doubtful.........

I see that many people who still had VDV upto last sunday and didn't ditch him are considering keeping him now.. Whats the general consensus on him?

I've personally done VDV -> Nani for free. My thinking is that, I already have Ade, so have Spurs covered but didn't have Man U covered attacking wise, now I do.. 🙂

On reflection it is a bit silly before Sunderland at home :/

I was just sick and tired of all the uncertainty that surrounded him.. No doubt he'll be back in my team at some stage though.. Sooner rather than later but we'll have to wait and see..

Too many captains to choose from this week? Can't decide whether to bring in this guy or the other guy?

Give each outcome a number. Put the lowest and highest numbers into the random number generator below and abide by the decision of fate. At least it wasn't yours, so you can't be blamed, right?

    Massive dif. Drogba(C)!
Mata and Sturridge are the other options of course, especially Mata is on pens now.
Adebayor is another good pick for captain, but Sunderland haven´t conceded more than 2 goals this season.
Ba is, of course, a great captain choice this week but the ballsy move is to captain Baines against the side that has more penalties conceded(Norwich-3).
