Bonanza! With three of our five suggested bets coming in last week, and a fourth on Nani just a back-flip away from paying out, the “Fantasy Flutter” struck gold. After weeks of hitting bets and covering our stake, finally we’re starting to see some real profit. With the £25 return tucked in our back pocket, and Paddy posting up more markets, we shall see if the streak continues or whether our luck is pinched out…

This week Paddy deliver odds on some Flutter regulars, covering all positions on the pitch. Up first is our set-piece-taking, wing-hugging Everton flyer, Leighton Baines. For one of the priciest defenders around, Baines has provided only two goals, one assist and two clean sheets this season, whilst not missing a single minute of pitch-time. His poor individual haul reflects Everton’s uninspiring season to this point, but when the Toffees win, Baines is always in the mix for returns. Weekend opponents Norwich have been bashed around when on the road, and we feel that Baines looks good for some profit in a game of goals at Goodison. We’ll open up our tenner, with £2 on Baines to score from a dead-ball at 11/2.

Swansea’s performance in last week’s clash with Fulham made for good reading for all those (probably a lot of you) that had Michel Vorm in goal. But the comfortable 2-0 result perhaps failed to tell the full story. Although Fulham conceded, Leroy Lita and company never looked truly threatening going forward. Even taking into account their recent injuries, Newcastle seem a good bet to hold firm against the Swans at St James’ this weekend. Paddy have Scout Pick Ryan Taylor to keep a cleanie and Newcastle to win at 21/10; we’ll take that for £3 of our stake.

The Yak is back, and lining up a very favourable fixture at home to the Baggies. Although he had a quieter week, facing off against Martin O’Neil’s Sunderland, Yakubu is still very much on our radar. On the bench as prime budget option in the Scout Picks, we’ll back the Yak to score and Blackburn to win at 3/1 for a quid of our money.

Chelsea’s “number Juan” playmaker (sorry) is away to Roberto Martinez’s struggling Wigan side in the late kick-off on Saturday. Chelsea will be riding a wave of confidence after defeating league leaders Man City at the Bridge on Monday; the Latics look to there for the taking. Juan Mata to assist, and low scoring Wigan to keep off the score sheet, is a massive 6/1. Our £3 stake doesn’t seem quite enough on this, with value written all over it, but we need to save a nugget for our final flutter.

Our regular “who will score the most” market features last week’s winner Wayne Rooney once again, this time at the better price of 13/8. But we’re not going to take that. We’re not even going to take the fair price of 7/4 on Daniel Sturridge on the aforementioned potential goalfest at Wigan. No, in-fact, we’ll be placing our final pound on Demba Ba at 15/8 to hopefully rifle a few past visiting Vorm. Swansea’s fans may have maintained their match-long chant of “Michel Vorm m’lord, Michel Vorm” last weekend, but Ba looks well placed to silence the traveling Swans faithful at St James’ Park.

Paddy’s Money Back Specials

We may have steered clear of the City vs Arsenal clash with the Scout Picks, but Paddy have faced the weekend’s big encounter head-on. They’re offering a money back special, refunding all first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast single bets on the match, if Mario Balotelli or Robin Van Persie scores the last goal.

How much do you think your opponents' squad should effect you own choice of captain? For example I'm torn between Ba and Sturridge but I notice that the teams above me in my main league all have Ba and don't have Sturridge. I think I'll go with Sturridge (C) for that reason, but is it always wise to let these factors influence decisions?

It's pretty much the reason i quit head2heads this season. I spent way too long worrying about other peoples teams and potential transfers. I don't regret the decision at all. If you play your own game the mini leagues and H2H's will take care of themselves

Absolutely not. Play the best potential captain available to you regardless of what other players are doing. There'll be plenty of times when you go with different choices.

I take your point but what's the point in performing well when there are people above you in the league playing VERY well? The strategy I mentioned is maybe too simple to work consistently, I wonder if anyone has devised something more complex that they find works. There must be some wonder-strategies out there surely?

By taking a supposedly inferior captaincy choice you stand to lose ground anyway.

However, I get what you are after. I call it an edgam. For example, last week there was a perfect opportunity to have an edgam with RVP at home to EVE and Rooney at home to WOL. By taking a punt on Rooney, there would be little risk as I could not see RVP scoring more than one goal in a fixture that is usually quite tough for ARS.

That's what you have to do - look for these edgams. But not at the expense of what your oppo is doing and not on inferior cap'n'cy choices.

          Best of luck!

Interesting idea. Perhaps then a sneaky strategy should only ever be considered in situations where captaincy choice is not obvious to you. Only then might the opportunity for differential tip the balance enough to influence the decision. RVP/Rooney last week was a good example, I think Ba/Sturridge might be another one this week. If I had Ade on the other hand I wouldn't consider Sturridge.

Yes if your oppo was captaining Ba or Studge (who you also have in your team) then Adebayor would be a perfect edgam for you this week. This is backed up by Ade's shooting stats and nice fixture.

Timing is key with these things so be on the lookout for suck opportunities. I've gone with Rooney as an edgam this week over Ade. The betting is slightly in his favour to score more goals.

Howard's a little dear for a gk and TOT aren't a reliable source of cs. Krul and Hibbert for me if you are planning for the dgw. It'll save you some cash too.

Was thinking Krul, already have Simpson though.. but you're right, Howard is expensive for a keeper that doesn't keep clean sheets. Might take a punt on Jagielka rather than Walker..

yeah Mata has been awesome away from home 🙂

Seriously though, Chelsea have 2 away game on the trot now compared to Citeh's 2 home games. The there is the fact that Mata has 0 goals, 0 BPs and 2 assists on the road this season compared to Silva who hasn't gone one home match this season without picking up a goal or assist (when he has started).

Cheers AgueroL. Dempsey is actually a little treasure trove of points in Metro and I can see him racking up the pts v BOL this week. He does get a lot of shots in which suits the scoring in Metro.

Yep, Just wondering what Lamp's gametime will be.

Stay with that, I hate the guy. Karma's due to shut him down, and if he's sharing the pitch with Mata he's off penos...which basically renders him useless.

To play one from Shawcross, Vermaelen and Simpson. My thinking is that playing Shawcross who has at least a chance of a cleanie is a better option than doubling up Simpson with Krul is better than Vermaelen this weekend Yay/Nay?

I'm going with Simpson myself who I have doubled up with Krul. SWN have only scored 6 goals away.

Depends how you see the games going.

I'll just let the first three decide what I am going to do, as I have been wrapping my head around it for too long, and just came home from a christmas party:

Richards and Saylor OUT Baines and Evans in

          Saylor OUT Jagielka in

Go! (If you feel like it)

          Options
          1. Bank my transfer for next week
          2. Dyer to Bale
          3. Da Leaet to EVans
          4. Sturridge to Ba

Number four is because my league leader hs Agbon and will likely get Ba in and afraid that he will tear it up and Sturridge will draw a blank. I just made up 35 points last week from 150 point defect and don't want to give all back.

I have VDV, Baines and Ade out of those 4 and I'm going to go with Ade I think. VDV is a tempting option but given he might only get 60 to 70 mins max, Ade will likely get more minutes and is probably on pens now and is in form. I gave serious consideration to Baines but as so few have him, if he does well, he'll be a good differential without being captain anyway. I also have Bale and Yak which I gave a little thought about handing the armband to.

          Krul
          Komps Baines Enrique Raylor
          Bale Silva VDV

            Great team. Chin up.

That team will score very well this week but I hope it isn't the result of a 12pt hit otherwise it will be tough to have a great week.

Good luck. Tis only a game remember.

I've taken a few 4 point hits over the last couple of weeks but no 8 pointers or over this season. Have decided that 4 point hits should be the most for any given GW.

Good luck to you too this GW!

RVP away to City and everyone is ripping thier hair out about their captain again. Love it.

He's a world class player but he doesn't half make this game boring.

Imagine, this is what it could be like everyweek if the Dutch maestro's glass legs were to give in like we usually expect.

Would play Vorm ahead of Ruddy and Komps ahead of Enrique this week. Not sure how certain Barfa will start but he could be tempting ahead of Walters this week. Start Barfa and if doesn't play then have Walters first sub. Team looks really good otherwise.
