We had to wait until the final game of the day to find the disciplinary angle on Sunday’s proceedings, but sure as night follows day, it duly arrived in the shape of a fifth booking of the season for Arsenal’s Alex Song. His early yellow means that he’ll now be absent from the matchday squad for the visit to Aston Villa in midweek.

Replacing him on the suspension tightrope is teammate Mikel Arteta. Already a recipient of a league cup yellow in the early rounds for Everton, his booking today for a foul on Yaya Touré means he has now accrued a further three in the league for new club Arsenal, and takes up the spot on the tightrope vacated by Song.

There’s been some confusion about this as a result of talk of an earlier booking at Blackburn whilst with Everton. We’ve had it confirmed by Opta that this booking was never actually awarded (despite what other sources show); as a result, Arteta has now moved on to four yellow cards – one short of a ban. We will of course clarify this with the FA and confirm tomorrow.

With the other disciplinary matters of the gameweek rounded up in yesterday’s article, there’s just time for a final line to summarise the Luis Suarez situation: with the hearing into his alleged racism underway and a decision delayed until Tuesday at the earliest, there’s still some uncertainty as to whether we’ll know more before the gameweek 17 deadline of 19:30 GMT the same day. It’s entirely possible that if a decision is delayed again until Wednesday, and if a ban is handed out that afternoon, that he would be ineligible for Liverpool’s trip to Wigan in the evening. We’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

GAMEWEEK 17 BANS

  • Alex Song (Arsenal) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

              I don't but it basically went like this:

              Early on in a gameweek something happened, pen miss, something like that and Donal decided to publicly throw his toys out of the pram and call it a day as a fantasy manager, much to the rest of the forums amusement.

              His team continued to be changed each week though, and after questioning he explained that he had given the keys of his fantasy team over to his brother because it was ruining his enjoyment of football. Problem with this story is that he continued to post on FPL.com about ff related matters, the silly sod. Now he's in the world cup (and doing very well) the story has well and truly crumbled.

                I suspect the comment about it ruining football is not so unbelievable. I know there are some very serious FPL players and i wouldnt be surprised if, long term, the results of their FPL team become more important than the actual football.

                There is a flip side to this obviously that it makes games more interesting and so heightens enjoyment.

                Particularly when you support a team who seem to have been stuck in league one since the light bulb was invented.

                    He actively supports their main rivals if he owns one of them in his FPL team. But says that that doesn't make him any less a United fan because what he wants doesn't affect their results. Absolute drivel.

    Did you know that according to a study made with ProZone last Premier League season there were 13 000 offside situations, and of those the linesmen got 99% right.

    It's their job, the figure is higher than it 'should' be because sometimes the player will be 10 yards on/off and it's easy, but it's still a pretty good %. Highest ever too.

      If there were 13000 offside situations that means that there was on average 34.21 in a match. Surely thats not right.

        It is, because they also have to count the situations that are not given as offside where it's likely that they could have blown. Given offsides are around 10 per game.

    ok folks RMT please

    Vorm

    Brown, Jones, Raylor

    Silva, Nani, VdV, Bale

    Yak, RvP, Ba (c)

    Subs Westwood, Tiote, BAE, McAuley

    I have 1 FT and 0.7 in bank

    I was planning to save transfer this week and do Bale- any 5.3 or less mid (can rotate with Tiote until wc) and Yak- Hernandez ready for Wigan and Blackburn at home (and it gives me this GW to asses Hernandez) Thoughts? I know taking Bale out may seem odd, but my main rival has 5 players the same as me, so I need to find the differential

    Repost- My team at the moment for this gameweek is;

    Krul (Vorm)
    Baines – Smalling – Jones – Enrique (Brown)
    Silva – Nani – Bale (B.Johnson, Reo-Coker)
    RVP (C) – Adebayor – Ba (Vc)

    Im looking at doing these transfers;

    Jones -> Shotton
    Smalling -> JEvans
    Adebayor -> Rooney

    Leaving me with;

    Krul (Vorm)
    Baines – JEvans – Enrique – Brown (Shotton)
    Silva – Nani – Bale (B.Johnson, Reo-Coker)
    RVP (Vc) – Rooney (C) – Ba

    Do the transfers look good? Should i do them?

    Krul (WBA)
    Agger (wig) Koscielny (avl) Baines (SWA) Ward (NOR)
    Drenthe (SWA) Bale (CHE) Ramsey (avl)
    Rooney (ful) RVP (avl) Adebayor (CHE)

    Talk to me. I don't particularly like it. Too many players away from home, and most of the ones playing at home are playing the mighty Chelsea! Also hate not having any City players for the inevitable Stoke battering. If Bale is confirmed out (I highly doubt that he won't play, but *if*), how about Bale > Johnson?!

      I don't think you have any choice, you've chosen the road of Rooney and Baines in your team and now you have to follow through. That team is not bad and it might well work out, I'd save a transfer. You have Sinclair to come in if needed I suppose, it's not the end of the world.

    OMG, if I sold everyone in my FPL team I would only have 99.4m.

    I can't compete with such a low-value squad.

          This is because they take risks with early transfers. I wouldn't read too much into your team value.

            Don't read into it? Some people have 6 million more than me!!! Clearly at a disadvantage because I've not played the money game.

            Just playing my game and hoping it works out (value-wise) hasn't worked... yet again.

          You should try Optimus's approach. He takes A LOT of hits in early weeks to gain value...

              Interesting approach, maybe something to try next season? He hasn't taken a transfer hit now since GW10 and has obviously reaped the rewards of such an expansive budget. GW10 = 675k GW16 = 47k

                It's still a tad risky but working well for him now I guess.

                I have 107.6m value, made a few early transfers but only ever for people I wanted and not to chase value (unless I wanted the player anyway).

    Bale and leading goalscorer Defoe miss Sunday’s win also, but Redknapp is hoping their can recover in time to face London rivals Chelsea.

    “We lost Gareth Bale yesterday evening in training, he’s got a bit of a sprain in his ankle, then we lost Aaron Lennon so we lost a lot of pace out of our team and that was a problem,” the boss said.

    “Gareth’s not too bad; he’s just got a sprain of the ankle so we just have to see how he is really.

    “Jermain doesn’t feel too bad. He’s got a minor hamstring tear, he’s a quick healer, he could be back in a couple of days

    Larsson is awesome with those FKs. Finally achieving some consistency, which wasn't the case at Brum. Better fixtures and pens and I think Mata to Larsson would be on the cards to facilitate a DFsive upgrade.
