Suspensions

The FA have this evening confirmed Luis Suarez has been found guilty of racial misconduct towards Patrice Evra and have handed the Liverpool forward an eight-match ban and a fine of £40,000, pending appeal.

The Independent Regulatory Commission announced the decision as follows:
1. Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1);
2. the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra’s colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2);
3. Mr Suarez shall be warned as to his future conduct, be suspended for eight matches covering all first team competitive matches and fined the sum of £40,000;
4. the [penalty] is suspended pending the outcome of any appeal lodged by Mr Suarez against this decision.

The fourth point here is crucial- the Merseyside club have 14 days in which to contest the decision, which means that Suarez is available for selection over the next fortnight. The length of time until appeal takes in four Premier League games- (wig, BLA, NEW, mcy) – and with Kenny Dalglish’s side struggling for goals right now, there’s every chance that, for as long as the club feel he is in the right frame of mind, Suarez will take part in these games.

Liverpool have since released a strongly worded statement this evening and it’s pretty obvious, upon reading, that not only are they firmly behind their player, they will also be appealing this decision. The following excerpt sums up their thoughts:

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

With the suspension on hold until after the outcome of any appeal, then, it’s impossible to speculate what games Suarez could potentially miss. Given that the FA have taken two months to reach this decision, it’s fair to say the likely appeal won’t be rapidly resolved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Getting away from Suarez for a minute, I have 0 from 0 with 11 to play including my captain.

    Is that a good score tonight? 🙂

      "We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken."

      Interesting considering Suarez had a chance to deny saying it, but he didn't. Instead he made up that crappy excuse that 'all his teammates call him that.' I find it fascinating that Liverpool is trying to act like he said nothing, when even Suarez himself is admitting he said it.

    My official statement on the Suarez ban is.....no comment.

    In other news, I have left myself exactly enough cash to get in Rooney. Fiso 78%, TFPL 57% towards the rise. I can't afford a 0.1 rise.

    Should I get him in tonight and risk an injury in the match tomoro?

      I think the whole thing has got ridiculous and the FA are now making arse's of themselves by punishing something very "grey". He did not use use the "nigger" word, but rather a variation of "negro", which Evra undoubtedly is.

    Evening chaps, just watched the Wol Nor highlights. Am I the only one feeling sorry for Kean and sick of the Blackburn fans? I was getting tired of it a while back, but it's clearly demotivating the players. Who's going to take that job should they sack Kean?

      I don't feel sorry for him really, he's blatantly out of his depth and his record so far doesn't exactly inspire confidence that they'll avoid relegation. The owners have just added a pantomime aspect to the whole thing, their reasons for not sacking him are ludicrous.

      They really are the most appalling fans. I would never dream of behaving that way at my club. Whatever they think of the manager, although on gates, wealth etc. they or Wigan should be bottom anyway, how on earth does their behaviour help the players?

    Kean fights on...

    "We've had some great chances and a decent shout for a penalty so I was happy with our second-half performance. But we gave ourselves a mountain to climb as we didn't start the game properly. All our defenders are out injured but we just have to play through it. The fans come and expect us to get at Bolton and we didn't. But I think they saw a response in the second half. It's not nice to lose any game, irrespective of what the fans are singing. We're feeling it but we've got a good group here and we'll get a side together. Of course I will continue. We'll be positive and climb the table. There is no board meeting due, I spoke to the owners before the game and I am sure we will all stick together."

      Problem is, even if he thinks he can turn it around, the civil war is damaging the club and worse, the support. He should step down for that reason alone, let alone the results.

      I'm keeping him til GW18 and then getting Adebayor in, but Sturrige's next 4 games are very good. So really you've just got to think will Ba (bol) outscore Sturrige (FUL) in GW18 because Ba's fixtures take a downturn from there.

      I'm thinking Nani is enough cover. Granted, I'm scared of not having Rooney, because I think he's a great fantasy player, but if it comes down to Rooney/Moses or Nani/Studge (roughly same price) it's easily the latter for me.

        In addition, if its a question of say Rooney/Drethe or Rooney/Walters vs. Ade/Nani then I still think the latter is better.

        RVP/Adebayor/Studge for me after this week.

            I can see the argument because I love Walters, but I think Rooney and Nani will always score very similarly and I think Adebayor will consistently outscore Walters and is on a much better team with better fixtures. I just don't think Rooney will outscore Nani that much.

        Looking very good. Loving the Huth punt. I'm actually abandoning my cheap defence rotation policy with McAuley, Gabbi etc., despite Rooney's revival.

        Mata is a funny one. I can't work him out fantasy wise. I don't seem to get on with Chelsea players, but I shall do Ba to Studge after Bolton for coverage.

          I don't think you can actually have a successful policy which effectively ignores loads of potentially high scoring players. I think you just need to judge each player on his own potential, regardless of position.

          I know what you mean about Mata. Every time I am about to take him out a more important transfer comes up then he gets a good score and I end up keeping him.

          I think Ba to Sturridge is a good transfer for the coming weeks.
