The first midweek Gameweek of the season starts with two games where Premier League survival is the ultimate goal. There’s still an hour before the Gameweek 17 deadline, but the Dugout Discussion swings it’s doors open nice and early for tonight’s games…

Relatively high-flying Norwich travel to Molineux to face a Wolves side perilously close to the relegation zone. Although there’s an eight place gulf between the sides, anything but a home win against Norwich – who will be viewed as eventual fellow candidates for the drop – would constitute as a failure.

Mid-December is normally too soon for clubs struggling for points to begin to worry but, for Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, a loss tonight would ensure mass hysteria. To say both managers’ jobs are on the line pending this game’s outcome, might not be that far off the mark.

That bottom-off-the-table scrap at Ewood Park is the televised game tonight, but you can follow all of the action in our Dugout Discussion chatroom.

I was in the same situation but ended up bringing him in before the deadline (for Ward)

If he doesn't play vs. Wolves, would you still want to get him?

Obviously there's also the risk of injury.

Plus the player you're getting him in for could do well and you'd be regretting making the transfer before the game! He's not due to go up until Thursday at the earliest anyway is he?

No matter how good a player he is does anyone think Liverpool will be a better balanced team without Suarez. They might actually score more goals, so far they have 20 goals in 16 games which is fairly poor. He's a bit like Tevez but with less goals, and city haven't missed him.

Suarez does dick around a lot when he's on the ball, always taking the most complex route to goal. It could suit Liverpool to be more direct.

Having said that, PFOR's point is very valid.

Suarez is deceptive in my opinion, twisting and turning, head down, rarely picks the right option quick enough. They could be a lot more direct with the Big Oaf upfront, it will suit the likes of Downing, Adam etc...

I think there may lie the issue, you can call some one a black person but a chalkboard is called that because blackboard was deemed offensive, lots of grey areas and some of it has got really silly. There's blatant racism going on across European games and nothing more than a slap on the wrist is given. Not an arguement anyones going to win but the it's Suarez shouldn't influence people on what the punishment should be.

I do agree that things have grown out of hand. In general there's a bit too much political correctness nowadays. For example, a computer company were ordered to remove the names "master" and "slave" from their hardware. Master/slave technology is based on one device having the ability to control another. That was seen to be too offensive though.

The BBC's South America correspondent Tim Vickery wrote a good piece today about the cultural differences between South America and Britain when it came to using epithets:

"Probably the most revered figure in the history of Uruguayan football is Obdulio Varela, captain of the side that won the World Cup in 1950. His nickname was "El Negro Jefe" - the black boss. Among Suárez's team-mates these days is Maxi Pereira, who is known as "El Mono" - the monkey. It is a nickname which, apparently, is given and accepted with no offence meant or taken. It appears to be used in the same spirit that Alvaro Fernandez is called "El Flaco", which means skinny.

"These words are not easy - perhaps almost impossible - to translate into a contemporary English context. How do you judge the weight of a word uttered in a foreign language from a different mindset?"

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16262537.stm

Point taken, but once Suárez arrived in Britain, it was his responsibility to work out whether it's socially acceptable *here* to use nicknames like this. I think that in this case, Suárez wasn't intentionally trying to act in a racist way, but that's still not good enough. If you say what he was alleged to have said to a British player (or, in this case, a Frenchman), you're clearly and irrefutably crossing a line. So a ban of some length is fully justified.

I think the points about cultural difference would hold more weight if Suarez hadn't played in the Netherlands since he was a teenager.

Personally, I think Suarez knew he was being a little c*nt.

True, but a Dutch friend of mine said that the Dutch have two words for black - "zwart" and "neger" - which are interchangeable and non-insulting. Don't get me wrong, I think Suarez would resort to any wind-up to get an advantage on the pitch, but I don't think he realised the extent of what he was doing this time round.

And, as I said: Ignorance is no excuse. The ban is fully justified.

I'm from Holland too. And I have seen him playing for quite a while. The main thing here is that this fellow has an attitudeproblem long before he came to the UK.

He looks pissed off all the time. Unless he scores or gets someone a card. Then he is smiling ear to ear. The guy is just mental. Biting, racism and the WC...wow!

Dennis Rodman was talented also...I'm just sayin...

Fact of the matter is that no matter how nice Suarez is, how many black people he went to school with or what the context of what he said was, the FA had to ban him to make an example. He said something that could be construed as racist.

If the FA didn't ban him, would they possibly be in trouble with FIFA?

John Terry isn't going to be charged. He should be, but the English FA who think it's alright for one of their players to kick an opponent won't charge their captain with a major competition at the end of the season.

      "He should be"

Why exactly do you think you're in a position to make comments like this, when you have no idea about the facts?

What facts? There's one fact, if it's even a fact. And I have a perfectly good idea of that fact, it's clear as daylight what he said.

If he wasn't a Chelsea player, you wouldn't defend him. Fact.

I'm with you on this. Too many jumping to conclusions.

Same when Evra first made the accusations, many were saying he's telling porkies.
