While Chelsea’s run of upcoming fixtures has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata, we’re going to throw another hat in the ring this morning – John Terry.

There’s no doubt Terry is a costly option at the back. Coming in at 7.5, he’s the third priciest defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but he’s justified that so far, producing 80 points, joint-top scoring defender with Man City’s Vincent Kompany; all this despite chalking up just four clean sheets this season.

With four goals to his name after 18 appearances, Terry has already equalled his top-scoring campaign for the Blues and has found the net as many times as Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres combined. His game seems to be perfectly suited to this season’s bonus points system, too; he ranks at the top for defenders with 14 and has picked up the maximum bonus in three matches. The Chelsea captain has also proved capable of returning substantial points hauls, picking up double-figures on three separate occasions, a feat bettered only by Frank Lampard for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

The Blues skipper has been top of the Watchlist rankings for Defenders over the past two weeks now and further analysis of his stats- particularly in comparison to Sturridge – makes for interesting reading. While many may baulk at the idea, it’s worth noting that Sturridge is priced at 7.4 and has returned 82 points (also including 14 bonus), with both players’ tallies almost identical. With cut-price forwards such as Steve Morison and Heidar Helguson proving strong value options up top, there’s room for manoeuvre if Fantasy managers wanted an alternative to the likes of Leighton Baines or Thomas Vermaelen at the back.

Along with Ashley Cole, Terry is the only player to have seen every minute of his side’s campaign thus far – there’ll be no substitutions or rotation when it comes to his game time, a key factor worth considering as the fixture list continues at a hectic pace.

With a run of five games that reads (AVL, wol, SUN, nor, swa) the potential for plundering the points is clearly there and if Terry can continue on the goal trail and grab a clean sheet or two along the way, he could well prove a handy acquisition over the next few gameweeks.

Is Nani preferred over Silva? Of late he doesn't seem to doing much but Nani hasn't been consistent either. What about Valencia - he's been more consistent than Nani but will he continue getting game time? And is he playing in defence?

FYI, I bought Silva for 9.5 and current SP is 10.0

With the same logic BoobyZ, I did Nani to Valencia last night as I would lose too much on Silva, but I think it's pot luck which of Nani/Valencia will score more. I was willing to take the risk to get Bale in 🙂

Silva is a season keeper for me. Doesn't matter if he's not doing much right now but he's going to be in the top 3 midfielders for sure. Form is temporary, class is eternal.

Valencia would probably be the first name on the sheet if you asked Fergie. He's versatile and with United's injury woes he's nailed on to start until they get Young and all their right-backs fit.

I think he'll play next game. With Utd's injury problems he may have to. Plus Utd were coasting at half time against Wigan so he may have been brought off as a precaution.

The first week that I have a serious captain dilemma, I have nani, mata, sturridge, rvp, rooney as headline captain choices. I am a feeling that nani will not play 90, nor will rvp and rooney may well be in mid. I am also concerned that AVB is tryng to get Torres playing again and could have drogbs, torres with sturridge coming off the bench (and getting a deserved rest)...so in short...I have no idea!

Im amazed Mata isnt higher in the captain poll! A good home fixture for someone who is scoring really well at home and playing advanced and taking a good few set-pieces. If I had him he would be my cap!

    On another not this is my team for the gw after a 4 pt hit;
    Vorm
    BAE Enrique Shawcross
    Bale Silva Nani Brunt
    RvP(c) Ade Sturridge(vc)

    Subs: Howard Surman Simpson Brown

Hoping Van Persie either plays or doesnt come off the bench! I think he should start though...

Mata can run the show but often only plays 60/70 mins, doesnt score that often and is often the one who makes way when AVB needs to change things, Bit like Silva in his first season!

        Silva 2010/11 - 2551 minutes, 4 goals, 9 assists.
        Mata 2011 - 1188 minutes, 4 goals, 7 assists.

            What is your point?
My comment has nothing to do with his team, it was to do with your "a bit like Silva in his first season" comment.
He still averages 6.1 every ninety minutes, and Chelsea vs Villa has historically been a high scoring game, so it's not a bad shout.
p.s he isn't looking for advise on how to get Mata in, all he said was that he'd be a good (c) choice this week.

It's not really for free if it costs you 0.5 the way I see it. That lack of funds could very easily lead to a loss of points down the track by having to compromise with future transfers.

the urge to drop silva is growing, if everyone starts to act on it, he will eventually come down .1, .2. So you sell him at 10.0, hope when you want him back he's 10.3
.3 isnt the end of the world. If mata goes up twice by then, now youve made .1 and would only lose .2 now in theory. Now this all depends on if silva begins to fade for a stretch and mata does well, but that is what you are banking on happening anyway isn't it?

I guess this is a blanket response to all silva owners wondering what to do, myself included. It IS ok to get rid.

the run of Che fixture is what is making the move so tempting. Got a overall team value of 110.5 and the wc gives me options to buy him back for a small hit.

I'm going with Hennessey -- don't like it when my attackers play against my keeper (granted you only have Bale, but I'd back him to do something against Swansea)

I don't understand where the stories relating to RVP being rested are coming from. All Wenger has said is that RVP should put the team before achieving the record, he may simply be trying to take pressure off RVP as he was trying too hard last time at Wolves. He hasn't stated he should be rested.

      he has

      http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Robin-van-Persie-may-be-rested-by-Arsenal-admits-Arsene-Wenger-article846186.html

‘‘It will be a big demand for him, but I don’t know yet, we will assess the situation after every game,’’ said the manager.

‘‘I don’t want to stop him. I am very happy if he does it, but hopefully he can combine the record with staying fit. You get his vibes, the medical vibes and you know the history with him. Then you make a decision.

‘‘I did it [rested him] in the Champions League because I thought we had enough security there and we could take a gamble. Also he was very tired after the Chelsea game.

‘‘What is important for me now is he stays fit. I know that if he is fit he will score goals. It’s as simple as that.’’

the stories are coming more from the fact that he p;ayed 90 mins vs wolves and has two games in 3 days. having said that, i have a sneaky feeling that wenger will end up starting him. i mean, what else can he do, chamakh?

Anyone else get a good GW19 draw? I have been drawn against a 2.2M ranked dead team who has made zero transfers, should be good for GW20 now.

think ive got the upper hand but a bit worried by him having raylor, ba, kompany, aguero and bale (unless i bring bale in for valencia)

lucky for you mate! sounds even worse than the guy I beat last week (transfers up until about 4 or 5 weeks ago)

Anybody know whats going with Richards??
    My defence right now is--

Evans, Jones, Richards.... (Jagielka and R Taylor waiting for the call up)

    Jones looks like starting anyway....
Evans..well I doubt and considering replacing with Shotton.
    but Richards--- no idea!!

Should I bother with that transfer with Evans.. or will he be sure to start once he gets well..
I have a feeling he could be back tomm u know!!

I also feel that Evans will play! Hope he does anyway. I would keep him in - I'm doing the same. Ideally we need confirmation of the Smalling situation first.

guys what would u do with this team

    given vorm

    wilkinson evans brown simpson enrique

    silva nani bale valencia johnson

    rvp ade BA

I know my immediate need is to fix that awful Defense, I wouldnt be able to bring in any spurs or everton based on money...the best I could do is shotton but i am not so sold he will keep a cleanie this week and next hes away to black burn...

should I do that or maybe try to get points up top by swtching ba to studge?

Play Shotton (WIG) or Drenthe (wba) this gameweek?
Also think I will start Evans in case he plays - is there any chance he'll start on the bench and come in for a 1-pointer?
