While Chelsea’s run of upcoming fixtures has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata, we’re going to throw another hat in the ring this morning – John Terry.

There’s no doubt Terry is a costly option at the back. Coming in at 7.5, he’s the third priciest defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but he’s justified that so far, producing 80 points, joint-top scoring defender with Man City’s Vincent Kompany; all this despite chalking up just four clean sheets this season.

With four goals to his name after 18 appearances, Terry has already equalled his top-scoring campaign for the Blues and has found the net as many times as Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres combined. His game seems to be perfectly suited to this season’s bonus points system, too; he ranks at the top for defenders with 14 and has picked up the maximum bonus in three matches. The Chelsea captain has also proved capable of returning substantial points hauls, picking up double-figures on three separate occasions, a feat bettered only by Frank Lampard for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

The Blues skipper has been top of the Watchlist rankings for Defenders over the past two weeks now and further analysis of his stats- particularly in comparison to Sturridge – makes for interesting reading. While many may baulk at the idea, it’s worth noting that Sturridge is priced at 7.4 and has returned 82 points (also including 14 bonus), with both players’ tallies almost identical. With cut-price forwards such as Steve Morison and Heidar Helguson proving strong value options up top, there’s room for manoeuvre if Fantasy managers wanted an alternative to the likes of Leighton Baines or Thomas Vermaelen at the back.

Along with Ashley Cole, Terry is the only player to have seen every minute of his side’s campaign thus far – there’ll be no substitutions or rotation when it comes to his game time, a key factor worth considering as the fixture list continues at a hectic pace.

With a run of five games that reads (AVL, wol, SUN, nor, swa) the potential for plundering the points is clearly there and if Terry can continue on the goal trail and grab a clean sheet or two along the way, he could well prove a handy acquisition over the next few gameweeks.

Don't you think that the whole differential thing is overrated .. You just have to field a team that you think will score max points .. Don't get differentials just for the sake of it..

absolutely correct. at the end of the day just go for the players who you think will score the most points. differentials get you into trouble, they have to be calculated differentials only on occasions, maybe if i have a free transfer here or there i will take a punt for a while on a player with good fixtures.

its great knowing that other people in your league dont have the same players as you when it comes off, especially when they are your captain and your oppenent only gets 2's for his differential!!

If you can precisely pinpoint 'max points' players then Yes, you might not bother 'the differential'.
      But are you that good?

Hmm. The two freebies next week could come in real handy, and Shotton might get a game off if Wilkinson returns.

I say save it, start Evans (if Fergie tricks us all again) and get Raylor in as first sub. I don't fancy Liverpool-Newcastle to be a high-scoring affair

Hard to say, Chelsea playing a type of football which doesn't suit Mata. I think he has adapted to the EPL quicker than Silva though, so I'd say him.

I don't know where he will play, alot of United fans seem to think he will play midfield, but nobody knows really!
                It's tough really, out of the ones I have from your picks I rate them;
                1. Nani
                2. Bale
                3. Sturridge
                4. RVP
                5. Silva
I don't have Rooney or Walters, but I wouldn't captain the latter. I'd go Nani, in case Rooney plays midfield

      1. Bale (for all round versatility and still shining when players had sussed him out).

      2. Mata ahead of Silva compared to this point last season. As it stands though, Mata has a little way to go to match Silva's all round influence. If Mata was playing at a better club where his creativity was utilised far more efficiently, that would help.

Liverpool 6 draws in 9 games at home this season - no Suarez - expect a low scoring game.

Currently have Ba, Enrique and Simpson floatring around in my team - could be a masterstroke to play all three, but I know it ain't going to work that way 🙂

Yeah I know it's not played on head to heads but some food for thought. I've got Krul and Simpson - would you just play Krul and bench Simpson? Or play Ruddy and leave both on bench? I don't think i'm going to play both, especially as it's the first game of the lot tonight and if they don't do well i'll be a bit pished for the rest of the GW.

I have the same dilemma myself. Would captain RvP if I knew he would start, but considering the Wenger-interview earlier this week I believe RvP is no 100% guaranteed to start. At the moment I have given Nani the captain-band, but what are everyone's thoughts on whether or not RvP will start?

yeah can't complain with 3 liverpool, they've been doing well. i don't think wilko won't start but if Puils is looking to rotate there is every chance he could come in for Woodgate at RB. not sure how many games woodgate can play in so few days. Huth could be used at RB too though. but yeah i would prob have him ahead of drenthe this week too, just in case he starts. drenthe has ability to get high scores though, depends if you want to take the punt on him or settle for a max 6 from wilko.

Look at Tottenhams fixtures after that though? I'd fancy them to do good against Newcastle and Arsenal, and after that they have another good run.
United's don't look that tough and only Liverpools defense is tempting, where you can bench them for those games.

does this look ok for now? 0 ft and 1.3 in the bank – will bring in BAE next gameweek (not sure who to transfer out though!?). Would like Mata in but is it worth transferring Valencia and Vermaelen out for him and a cheap def?

    Vorm (krul)
    Evans, Enrique, vermaelen (shotton, RTaylor)

    Rvp(c), sturridge, adebayor

Chris Smalling has got tonsillitis," confirmed Sir Alex. "I know there are reports about glandular fever but they're off the mark.

"He had glandular fever as a kid but that's not the case here. He should be ready for the Newcastle game, at least definitely the Manchester City game in the FA Cup. He'll be ready for those games."

The other injuries are causing some frustration at Carrington after problems at the back forced a major reshuffle against Wigan.

"We don't have much change," updated the boss. "Obviously injuries to the defenders are quite a concern now, with Jonny Evans taken off at half-time [on Monday].

"We're hoping Phil Jones will be fit, there's possibly an outside chance that Rio Ferdinand will get on the bench. Other than that, we're the same.

"Hopefully we can keep the momentum going. The form is good and the players are enjoying themselves too."

      Dudu: also

Alex Ferguson today insisted that Chris Smalling will be fit to play next week following reports the defender faced a long lay off with glandular fever.

Ferguson said Smalling was suffering from tonsillitis and will play against Newcastle next Wednesday or Manchester City the following Sunday.

"I have seen the reports," Ferguson said. "They are well wide of the mark. He has tonsillitis."

Ferguson also revealed that he could have Rio Ferdinand and Phil Jones available for tomorrow's clash against Blackburn at Old Trafford.

There were claims this morning that Smalling, 22, could be out for up to three months which would have added to United's injury woes.
