Arsene Wenger has brought us the confirmation we wanted on Robin Van Persie’s chances of facing QPR today – unfortunately, Arsenal have chosen to publish the statement several hours too late for Fantasy managers and the Fantasy Premier League deadline.
The good news, for most , is that Van Persie will face QPR, with Wenger set to assess his skipper again before selecting him for Monday’s visit to Fulham.
“He will play tomorrow, then we will assess the situation with him on Sunday and Monday morning and make a decision…I don’t rule it out but he’s one of the players who has played a lot and you see again, against Wolves on Tuesday, he’s the guy who gives absolutely everything in every game at the moment…He knows, ‘I have to score’, so he’s always on the fringe of pushing himself. Let’s hope he can get through the next two games.”
From those comments, it appears that Van Persie will not only start against QPR today, he will also stand a good chance of making the trip to Craven Cottage, particularly if Wenger can afford him a rest in the latter stages of today’s game.
Van Persie did of course top our Captain Poll and also find a place in our Scout Picks – a decision that appears to have paid off following this confirmation. There will however, be plenty of Van Persie owners who will have put their faith in either Nani or Wayne Rooney for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy, concerned that the Arsenal skipper would not start today’s game. They now face an anxious day, with United kicking-off at 12.45 against Blackburn, and Van Persie to follow at 3pm.
That minority will be open for minimal damage from the Dutchman – with Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record in sight, that might just be a forlorn hope.
