Roy Hodgson fears Chris Brunt may be set for an extended spell on the sidelines. Harry Redknapp awaits news on the extent of calf injuries to William Gallas and Sandro, while Bacary Sagna is reportedly ahead of schedule in his comeback from an ankle injury:

Spurs’ hard-fought win over West Brom last night came at price after William Gallas and Sandro both left the field with calf injuries. The pair are awaiting scans today and, while the severity of Gallas’ injury is yet unclear, Harry Redknapp revealed post-match that Sandro appears to have torn the muscle, with a long absence now expected. The injury problems racked up yesterday, with Jake Livermore, who came on as a sub for Sandro, also limping out of the Baggies clash. Scott Parker missed the game with a knee problem but is hopeful to be available for next week’s game with Everton.

Roy Hodgson has revealed Shane Long missed last night’s game at Spurs due to a back injury. While it is not thought to be serious, it could make the Irishman’s status questionable for the next few weeks. The Baggies boss admitted Chris Brunt is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury against Everton. Hodgson is bracing himself for bad news over the playmaker’s availability:

He has a CT scan today – but we know it’s a serious injury. It’s just a question of the degree of seriousness.

David Moyes is hopeful that loan-signing Landon Donovan can hit the ground running against Bolton tonight. The Everton boss has revealed the American has trained well, looks sharp and is looking forward to getting on the field:

Fitness-wise he is not someone who carries a lot of weight. He is quite lightweight and he looks okay. He has settled in very quickly, so we look forward to getting him in the game and seeing how he does.

Reports suggest Arsene Wenger has been handed a defensive boost with the news that Bacary Sagna could return to the first team sooner than expected. Sagna has been missing since October with a broken ankle and may be fit to face Manchester United in gameweek 22.

Martin O’Neill received some positive injury news today, with both Craig Gordon and Michael Turner returning to reserve action this afternoon. Though their results on the pitch have been impressive, the Black Cats have struggled for options, with a few of O’Neill’s first-team squad struggling with injuries and illness of late.

Hatem Ben Arfa has voiced his frustration at not seeing more first team action for Newcastle this season. The Frenchman has declared himself ‘completely fit’, but believes that his playing style doesn’t suit that of manager Alan Pardew. While Fantasy managers are hopeful of more game time for the Frenchman when Demba Ba departs for the African Cup of Nations, Ben Arfa bemoaned

It’s true we don’t share quite the same philosophy. For him, it’s more crosses, a bit of a more direct style, whereas I’m more the kind of player who likes to play short passes.

Wigan striker Albert Crusat was helped off the pitch during last night’s defeat against Sunderland with a back injury. The Spaniard was replaced after 38 minutes by Victor Moses and was in some discomfort as he left the field. Roberto Martinez said:

We will assess Albert over the next 24 hours, but he couldn’t breathe when he came off so it is a worry.

Mick McCarthy’s first-team options have increased today, with the news that Michael Kightly has returned to Wolves after a three-month loan spell with Watford.

Having owned him I disagree, you never really expect him to get anything. When he does, it's surprising and amazing...but not something I want out of a fantasy player, to be surprised when they assist or score.

How about this - Have Lindeegard as your main goalie with a good backup at hand. i.e. Vorm. If Lindegaard plays (which he does from time to time - 5 matches / 5 clean sheets) you get points, otherwise Vorm will come in from the subs bench. How does that sound?

Still don't really get this idea! So on current percentages he'll play 25% of the time (1 in every 4 games) which is NOT a guaranteed CS at all (I wouldn't read to much into the fact that he has kept one every time he's played thus far) and then Vorm will come in for him!?

Why not pick Vorm and another keeper who is fairly decent, from an average team who have a nice run of fixtures? Like Stockdale/Swartz or Mignolet?

Basically you get to chose every week based on logic for that week rather than cross your fingers and hope for the best. Surely Vorm can't keep this up every week anyway as Swansea will still be massive contenders to go down!

    Hello!

Are there any flaws in this WC team?

    Lindegaard (Vorm)
    Enrique, Kompany, Caulker (Simpson, Shotton)
    Silva, Nani, Valencia, Bale (McClean)
    Sturridge, Aguero, RVP

    Alternatively:

Mata and Yakubu in for Aguero and McClean
Sessegnon and Dempsey in for Nani and McClean
Krul, Jones and Ba in for Lindegaard, Shotton and Aguero

    Thanks!

Having two players from the same team in the same position (i.e. Nani AND Valencia) in a non-DGW seems a bit of a risk. Rather than putting all your eggs in one basket (as stated), why not buy another reasonable £6-8m midfielder from a different team?

thanks - it's a valid point, i just have a feeling that Nani and Valencia (with a cheapo on the bench) will more often score more points than Nani/Valencia and Dempsey/Sessegnon, with Dempsey/Sessegnon (or Silva/Bale/Sturridge/RVP/Aguero) on the bench?

Bit of help here please guys.

    My team for GW21 is:

    Vorm (Westy)
    Enrique Simpson BAE
    Nani Silva Bale ?????
    RVP Ade Studge

    Bench: Walters Naylor Shotton

The question mark is a Drenthe sized hole that needs filling in my team. I have 6.4 to spend and will use my WC in GW22. So I'm looking for one week punt on a MF for 6.4.

Been looking and am really struggling for a 1 week punt. Funny fixtures this week for the lesser sides who the budget players play for.

My thought is just to get Sess in now before the WC and his price rises and just see how he gets on against an out of form Chelsea team.

    Any other ideas? 8)

    Swansea defence form.

In the last 5 home games, they kept 2 cs
In the last 5 away games, they kept 3 cs

In the last 4 home... 2 cs
In the last 4 away... 2 cs

In the last 3 home... 1 cs
In the last 3 away... 2 cs

In the last 2 home... 0 cs

After many attempts, i think i've nailed my wc team:

    lindegaard (vorm)
    skrtel s.kelly mcauley (brown shotton)
bale (c) valencia mata dempsey (sessengon)
    vanpersie aguero (vc) helguson

    EXPLANATION:
Keepers: vorm is a must have, and went for lindegaard as when he plays, he'll probably keep cleanies and if he doesnt vorm will always be backup
Defence: skrtel is the only expensive pick with liverpool solid in defence with good fixtures. rest are good cheapies who rotate well
Midfield:all have good fixtures and mata should improve his form soon.will trade out bale after wigan game
Forwards: 2 superstars (rvp/aguero) who are consistent & captain choices. helguson is my cheap differential with an unbelievable run of fixtures and when on a roll, he just keeps scoring!

    thoughts and comments welcome! thx

He has made the second most goal attempts by a defender after Huth...

May be a decent option if some of them start finding the net.

My word aren't there a lot of almost identical WC squads...

    Here's mine;

    Lindegaard, Vorm
    Senderos, BAE, Richards, Caulker, Raylor
    Silva, Mata, Valencia, Bale, Sessegnon
    Yakubu, Aguero, RVP.

    Any comments Gents and ladies?

So you reckon this fine run of form by Swansea/Vorm will keep coming? I can personally see it tail off as they head for a relegation battle and that will leave people struggling if they have Lind as back up.

Good call Muggles - I am planning on doing the same once I use my WC. It seems the safest option and avoids losing points as much, as is the case with alternative combos such as Hart/Vorm or Friedel/Hart, etc.

Right now I have Vorm and Bunn. I chose Bunn as he was cheap and didn't worry about lost points as he was a backup until Robinson got injured. Here's to hoping that Lindegaard will becomes the no1 at Man Utd for the rest of the season,,, but if he was then the Vorm/Lindegaard combo would supposedly be in jeopardy...

I was going to get Donovan for DGW. But I can't see him playing 180mins in DGW as he is short on match fitness. He might play regularly after DGW, will be interesting to see what Moyes decides - perhaps ditching Saha and playing Cahill/Donovan as faux strikers?

what is it with this lack of RVP love.

He is a scoring machine. He still scored against Man Utd earlier this season, even when the rest of the Arsenal team played like tiny school boys and were left humiliated.

I'm going to assume you are joking about ditching RVP. There are no alternatives.

Does Guardiola look at Messi and think, sure he's good and scores loads, but I just want a better alternative at a cheaper price?

Does Mourinho look at Ronaldo and think, yer, sure he's got his tricks and can score pretty much any type of goal at will, but surely there must be a better alternative at a cheaper price?

I wouldn't touch RVP but you should know that is a dodgy analogy.

Money is virtually no object to Real and Barcelona, 'downgrading' Messi or Ronaldo is unlikely to result in 'upgrading' Xavi/Iniesta/Fabregas/Thiago or Alonso/Ozil/Di Maria/Khedira. Money is most certainly an object to us and would result in upgrades around the squad.

I would have had Brunt in my team for GW24, but now he's out I'm considering Odemwingie, thoughts?

      I'd rather look at Morrisson/Helgicopter/Sa.

Everything pointing to Drenthe not making it tonight, so I am hoping that he will at least make the Spurs game, would have been ideal for him to make the game where they have more chance of scoring however, Osman and Baines are the rest of my cover, a clean sheet and a goal or assist for Osman would be just peachy.

      it would make my day

I predict Baines pen and 2 assists, and Osman goal

No way Drenthe will play against Spurs. That too an away game, Moyes will sit tight and defend tighter.

I'm hoping Drenthe doesn't play as I have Naylor on the bench - was thinking the same about him being unlikely to play away against an attacking side - really that likely he'll miss both DGW games?

Drenthe to make a second half miracle comeback, fouled twice for two Baines penalties 😉

the backline is fine cause the big teams can easily concede and its just frustrating having expensive defenders... once they play over 60mins a game then they'll do
