Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

I've found it almost impossible to invest in any City players whatsoever this season because I find it so hard to distance myself from reality and FPL, but if I want to win I'm finally going to have to push this aside. Anyone else find this difficult?

    The Bonus Magnets

    Player-----BP's--Goals

    Terry---------14---- 4
    Baines------11-----3
    Johnson----11-----1

    VDV----------18----7
    Bale----------18----7
    Nani----------15----6
    Silva----------13----5
    Lampard----12----8
    Etherington-12---2
    Arteta--------11----4
    Larsson-----11---- 5
    Petrov-------10---- 4
    Murphy------10----2
    Pilkington--10---- 5
    Walters-----10---- 5
    Dyer----------10----2
    Brunt---------10----1

    RVP----------27----17
    Ba------------21-----15
    Adebayor---18----9
    Aguero------17-----14
    Rooney-----15-----13
    Sturridge---14-----9
    Suarez------13---- 5
    Agbonlahor-12----5
    Hernandez -12----6
    Dzeko--------11----10
    Yakubu------11----12
    Holt-----------10----7
    Fletcher-----10----8

Now as we all know goals are the key catalyst for receiving bonus points.

    In the top bonus magnets the anomalies are;

    Etherington
    Murphy
    Dyer
    Brunt

    Adebayor
    Suarez
    Ablongahor
    Hernandez

    So I ask this question?

What have these players got in common, and why do they receive so many bonus points?

crosses into the box? think someone mentioned that Bale was rewarded for that vs. WBA. Would make sense given the players:
Etherington, Dyer, Brunt all most likely to put in a decent cross? Murphy often hovers around the box sticking the ball back in as well

i'd pick Downing out as an exception - but he's been pretty woeful so far (when he's played) and i dont know how many balls he's been sticking in the box- esp with Carroll not playing

Other example of ball in box man -a.Cole -seems to get his fair share of bonus?

Its the 1-1 draws where he has bps for seemingly nothing, but why?

Its seems that its always the low scoring matches where bps are going astray of the strikers, but why do they settle on these people. Can you define, "must do better"?

I thought it interesting that Bale gets 3 bps for 1 assist yet Silva gets nothing for 2.
It's the 1 - 0 syndrome for sure, but why they couldn't give Silva a share I don't know. What marked him out of 1? Why do Bale and Milner (in this case) Bps have to be mutually exclusive?

    Krul Worm
    BAE Kompany Shotton Simpson Naylor
    Silva Nani Dempsey Bale Johnson
    RVP Ade Helguson

Have 1.6 in the bank. Could use it to strengthen the defence but dont think any of the options available strenghten my team.
    Any ideas fellas???

    NANI

I know this is stupid but I remember this worked last season:

The longest gap Nani has had without getting an assist or goal this season is 4 games...therefore he has a max of one more game until he returns some points.

Yes this is ludicrous, but it honestly worked last season haha.

despite him badly letting me down the last two weeks, my armband is currently on him. Either I'm a glutton for punishment or I too have fallen foul of the 'due a goal' brigade.

I guess this is the "due a goal" theory, but it sort of works for explosive players like Nani and VDV. I transferred him in 3 weeks ago and he got the armband against Blackburn, still I'm tempted to give him it against Bolton too...

Best short-term option (next 5-6 gameweeks) out of the following players:

    a) Sturridge
    b) Yakubu
    c) Agbonlahor
    d) Another striker £7.5 million or less

help needed WC or not to WC

    CURRENT TEAM
    vorm or (ruddy)

    (Jag) Baines Walker Komp Shotton

    Nani VDV Pilk Walters (Sess)

    RVP Ade (Ba)

clearly a side setup for the dgw(which didnt pay off)

is it worth a 4 point hit for
Ba > odemwingie or bellamy or similar
    jag > Raylor

or will i just WC, it looks to me that my team needs it...

if i WC i will stick with 2 spurs & 3 Man City
which isn't good for when they play soon.... arrggghh

F*ck knows who Shotton got BPs. Just about the only area where he beats Woodgate is in attempted crosses. But Baines attempted a lot more crosses and he has the worst PPI in the Everton side, and has one shot off target - like Shotton.

This is all confusing me, a lot.

No idea how though. Cahill aside, who obviously scored and had another shot on target, Shotton has the best PPI of any defender involved in a 2-1 victory this week - the sample I'm currently looking at. His ICT numbers aren't very impressive either, worse than Woodgate's, who Mark doesn't predict to get BPs.

Very odd. I'm not complaining whatsoever, mind.

Its all relative to who was involved in the match I guess. If shotton's competition was woodgate, stoke players and blackburn players then he has a better chance against a pitch full of long ball players.

maybe they have an algo that changes on different variants. so, attempted cross in a draw = x, while attempted cross in a loss = lower x. This could then change again according to where the crosses were made from, where the player made successful blocks etc.

It doesnt help any of us obviously and just the makes the whole thing more random.

Yeah, did occur to me, but from what I've heard he did a huge amount of positive ppi earning in the game, I haven't got the stats but if he accumulated a good few points, then regardless of defeat his stats will back him up.
