Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

If you were to double up on City defense who else would you have aside from Kompany? Not a goalie.

WCing defo seems to be on the up from last Tuesday - 4 of 18 = 22.22%

I've a feeling it will trend upwards (and probably more significantly by casual players the closer we get to the gameweek......anyone agree?

If you WC now you can catch all the price rises for next 2 weeks and gain money and then fix it to your ideal team. Unlimited transfers till next deadline.

Yes. But, for example, there's no point removing Spurs players and losing money. They might hammer Everton and I'll want them back. Or Bale might get injured so I'll keep VDV etc.

Never remove your players you want to keep. Just the ones that are going. For example, if I had Given I would buy ruddy and take his double price rise and buy say krul on the last day. You understand what im saying. Pre planning is key.

I don't know....that's what i'm trying to figure out. I'm already not able to do the team I had picked because of Sess' rise and Studge's fall this morning........So i'm wonderin are prices of the people I want (which are probably the ppl most ppl want going to just keep creeping up, until I can't get close to the team I had planned. Does this make sense?

I need some advice big time! From gameweeks 1-5 I did extremely poor, my captain never got more than 3 points, from 6-14 I did sensational and got to the top 10000. And 15-20 done so poor again and I don't kno why! This is my team :

    Krul vorm

    Santon Enrique walker hibbert ward

    Nani Vdv Valencia mate drenthe

    Adebayor van Persie Blake

This has been my team for the majority of the time except Blake just come in to get Vdv and Ade, any suggestions to why it's gone so downhill for me?

    Team A:
    Vorm, Sorensen,
    Enrique, BAE, Cahill, Simpson, Senderos
    Nani, Dempsey, Bale, Walters, Sess
    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge
0.6 in the bank to get Ba in for Sturridge once his back.

    Team B:
    Vorm, Sorensen,
    Enrique, BAE, Cahill, Simpson, Kompany
    Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Walters, Sess
    RVP, Ade, Sturridge
0.2 in the bank so will probably have to do Ade for Ba when he is back. Also means no Utd coverage.

So decision really is Kompany, Silva, Ade or Senderos, Nani, Aguero.

Yep, that's the Team B option, no Nani, Silva in instead, means I need to downgrade Aguero to Ade but have the funds to upgrade Senderos to Kompany...

Maybe I can do Senderos and Aguero....need to check if funds stretch that far...

I need some advice big time! From gameweeks 1-5 I did extremely poor, my captain never got more than 3 points, from 6-14 I did sensational and got to the top 10000. And 15-20 done so poor again and I don’t kno why! This is my team :
    Krul vorm
    Santon Enrique walker hibbert ward
    Nani Vdv Valencia mata drenthe
    Adebayor van Persie Blake
This has been my team for the majority of the time except Blake just come in to get Vdv and Ade, any suggestions to why it’s gone so downhill for me?

Sounds like RvP(c) helped you jump up the rankings from GW6-14, and now he's gone off the boil a bit you've been unlucky with your (c) choices. I'd look at VDV to Bale and Blake to someone much, much better.

The main two I'm considering are Yakubu and Sturridge. Yakubu has ok fixtures and always has the possibility of big scores. Sturridge has good fixtures, is consistent, but doesn't score big.

I've had RVP and have benifited from him,so no regrets not having rooney, Valencia is in my radar for the wildcard team but not convinced that he'l not lose his place to young once he is fit, rotation risk.

Good question, I've been mulling this over too. They always seem to end up in my WC drafts on reputation and potential despite horrid form. I'd keep at least one, just because United DO tend to kick on around now and I'd rather be on that boat when they do inevitably improve.

Not exactly the same but from the same limited pool perhaps.

But the choices in that group have been..er, pooled from a number of players who have a combination of form + fixture. Based on what we know, they are 'most likely' to score well.

That said, its a 'funny old game' and things never quite work out how you predict. But shrewd decision making will win out over a course of time and although you might need a little luck with a few differential choices, the base options presented are valid.

      The end x

I'd dispute 90%, given its a combination from a pool of about 35ish

But even so, 10% will be the deciding factor over a given time. We all make regular transfers so that dynamic changes as well.

this isn't aimed at anyone in particular (no, not even you Nutella) but people have got to realise that there are hundreds of RMWCT posts coming in thick and fast.

i'm not really a regular or a guru or even an expert, far from it, but i don't mind giving my humble advice now and then. but please don't ask other members to click on your team link, scroll through your team, look at the GW fixtures up until GW24 and then tell you when you should play your WC.

get a grip and decide when your current crop of players are looking dodgy, decide who would be a good bet and post that proposal.

PMS rant over. normal service will now resume.

would like to help Nutty, we just need a starting point.

you bought your current players in for a reason (cheap, potential, form, fixtures) so how are they doing now?

still happy, want to get rid, want to give them time?

who's on the horizon? new signings, Cahill to Bolton type moves?

loose cannons or backbone for your team (MCI def, mid and forward) and build around it?
