Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

Th Stoke defence went from being awesome to horrific to mediocre. I wouldn't get too excited by them. I think Sorensen is just a temporary measure but one of Shawcross or Huth may be worth a punt.

I wouldn't double and this come from a guy who likes to treble!

Bah, having done the maths I think that in order to stay in number one in my mini league and fight off my rival and his bench of wonder I need a bizzare conjunction of the planets, Drenthe not to play, Walker and Jagielka to keep clean sheets, (If Jags plays) and VDV to do precisely bugger all!

Why oh why did I transfer out Ba a week early and buy two everton players!

Sadly no! It was my own stupid decision lol!

        I have:

        Vorm
        Walker / Jagielka / Jones
        Drenthe / Walters/ Bale (c) / Silva / Nani
Adebayor / RVP (With Morrison to come off the bench if Drenthe does not play)

        My opponent has:

        Vorm
        Brown / J Evans / Jones
        Drenthe / Bale (c) / Silva / VDV
        Adebayor / Sturridge / RVP

But he has Dyer / Enrique / Simpson to come off his bench (17 Points)

        Im screwed lol

May struggle. Barton's their 1st choice deliverer of corners/free kicks and takes them well. Could see a small effect, but i shouldn't think it would be much of a concern with regards to Helguson's output.

I'm more worried about Macheda stealing some minutes off him, as shown by him coming on for Helguson in the last game

It's the major problem with DGWs. Nobody want to take a risk by ditching their strikers for the shitty DGW team striker (Saha or, er.... other) so we all pick cheapie defenders who concede 2+ goals.

        End result is -

Alotta people plumping for Yak in their WC but I'm not sure he or Blackburn will keep it up and their next few fixtures?

Fulham at home and on form, Everton will improve and usually very organised, Newcastle solid and Arsenal at the Emirates? QPR is a nice game to have him in I grant you but then its City away...

Who else do people think might be a better option? Fletcher, Holt, Morison, Ruiz, Bendtner round the Yak's price bracket.

And Sturridge, Crouch, Odem, and Agbon are options if you can stretch to it...

Thoughts on Berbatov? Need to fill the third striker spot with Aguero and VP.
Other options could be Yakubu, Agbon or Morison?

    Help would be much appreciated

Berbs - no - rotation. Morrison edges it. Then Yak. Agbonlahor is the best footballing-wise of the three (but then you already knew that and it doesn't matter) but Villa blowing hot-and-cold in front of goal.

I transferred out Ba and Krul. Two weeks ago for Sturridge and Stockdale. Stockdale just missed out on his clean sheet last week, didn't start him this week. Sturridge has scored 2 and 0 in two weeks.
The logic was "good" fixtures for Chelsea and "Ba-ad" fixtures for Ba seemed sensible.I even knew about his form against the big teams, but I thought surely he can't do it again...
I just want to say fair play to the people who kept Krul and/or Ba for this game week. Oh and more importantly started them!

Thx, considered Sturridge for Ba as well but it would be for a hit. With all the rotation going on I just thought the safest, maybe boring, thing to do was nothing. I got lucky.

As an outsider and a Toon fan, I have no idea why he took the captiancy away from Taarabt who got them promoted and is their only player who can add that bit of special quality to sign Barton. Fair enough Barton did well enough for us and has done for QPR but why alienate the one guy who could keep you in the Prem and trouble top class defences? Madness

You could be right about the transfer window. Might be wrong but wasn't the whole point of giving him the captaincy in the first place to give him responsibility and make him feel important and that. Stripping him of the captaincy to sign Barton was a low blow imo and as a unstable sort of guy at the best of times, he was never gonna react well to it.

So playing the WC for in GW23 (ready for GW24) has the benefits of:

    - Knowing who won in the Carling Cup S/F between Liverpool and City so which one will have their game postponed for GW26
    - The Transfer Windows is closed, so you know who is at which club.

Can we think of any others? I'm sure someone mentioned another yesterday, but it's slipped my mind.

Swing in fixtures for some of the better sides. Namely Spurs, who have great fixtures up to and including 23. Most people have three Spurs players, so the wildcard then is a great chance to get rid of them.

Also the games in week 23 are in midweek, so we'll have the teamsheets for the Tuesday matches before the deadline, so there's scope for taking some flair punts for just the week, before getting rid in the wildcard.

I have a captained bale left, adebayor, bae, drenthe(or 1 point from enrique if no drenthe)

so if who i have left gives me nothing but 2's and and a 1 from drenthe/enrique, thats's 2(x4), 2, 2, 1. totaling 9 points. a grand total of 61. the two bale would score would be added to his total making 61. hw would beat me in a tie, more goals scored.

so i just need ONE THING from bale, ade, BAE, or (gulp) drenthe. How are my chances? 50/50?

      75% at a guess.

Unless you have a week like mine, and Bale scores an own goal.

    2 free transfers. Who goes?

    Vorm - Ruddy

    Simpson - BAE - Brown - Evans - Wilkinson

    Bale - Silva - Nani - Dempsey - Drenthe

    RVP - Ba - Adebayor

    0.2 in the bank. Thanks
