While the Anfield faithful celebrate their Carling Cup semi-final victory over Man City, the minds of Fantasy football managers have already moved on to more pressing matters.

Following on from their 3-2 aggregate win this evening, we have another blank fixture looming, with the promise of a double Gameweek to come.

Prior to this evening, Liverpool were set to play host to rivals Everton in Gameweek 26, on Saturday February 25. However, with a trip to Wembley to face Cardiff in the final on the Sunday now secured, this league fixture will be postponed.

As a result, Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures (wlv, TOT, mun, blank, ARS) tell a fairly grim tale, while their Merseyside rivals have an equally unappealing slate ahead of them (MCY wig, CHE, blank, qpr).

The flipside of this, of course, is that this fixture will need to be rearranged and will undoubtedly, at some point, give both of these teams a double Gameweek. It’s now down to the Premier League to find the most appropriate date to reschedule the clash.

For now, we can only really speculate when the double Gameweek will fall. With both sides uninvolved in European competitions, there will certainly be many midweek slots available. We will, of course, share the news of the rescheduled fixture as soon as word breaks.

While the Carling Cup has made the impact on the Merseyside, the FA Cup will likely be the major factor behind all impending double Gameweeks this season. With such a tight schedule ahead of the European Championship, fixture congestion awaits.

Every FA Cup game from the quarter-finals, through to the Wembley showpiece, will take place on a Premier League weekend. The last eight of the competition will be contested in Gameweek 29, so we can expect plenty more rescheduling and double Gameweeks to arrive for the sides who make it through the next two rounds and beyond.

It's becoming harder to catch the leaders in mini league when everyone seem to have similar team!

    Silva Bale Valencia Clint Sezz

RVP Dem Baba (when he returns)

1 Newscatle defender, 1 Swan Defender, 1 Man City defender

    almost 11 similar positions!

Now it just depends on Captain choice!

One tough decision right now for me (and i suspect for many others too): Dempsey or Silva. I'm going with Silva and I'm going to risk being without Capt America (most of my rivals have him too).

So my dilemma with the Wild card is choosing my 8 attacking players.

These 9 are on my list
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon
    RVP, Aguero, Dzeko, Ba

So what philosophy to go with is the question - choose 8 good ones, or 7 good and 1 budget option.

I want and can do: Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon, RVP, Dzeko, Ba ... but then I have no clear-cut sub

I go for 7 good and 1 cheap. in that case Sezz --> Mc Clean to cover Sunderland.
We just should rotate defence, dont rotate attack player because you dont know when they score points.

Valencia did nothing vs Bolton but scores vs Arsenal, Sezz useless vs Blackburn but assist in ManC game...you never know and i'm sure you will make some wrong bench decision

I usually do preach about 7 strong and 1 cheap (best for lots of captain options), but Gaz that 8 looks awesome. Benching Sess or Demps or Val would not be terrible. Good luck.

    Alreet lads

Well, senegal going out, while being great for us in the real world, in the fantasy world, it totally messes with my carefully laid plans of getting Ba in for the wolves home game. So what do people think I should do. I'm pretty sure he won't start the blackburn game, even if he is back in toon in time. He might be on the bench. He should be back in the team for villa though.

    1) Get him in this week or next for Torres (that switch was reserved for Aguero).
    2) 8 point hit to get him in next week for Villa home (raylor, sess, best - evans, moses, ba). This might not be such a bad ,move, as Best will probably not play, raylor might still be benched, and sess' fixtures toughen up.
    3) Stagger the above moves so I only have to take a 4 pts hit in time to get him in for spurs away
    4) Stick to the original plan, an get him in for Wolves home with no hit

I would go for 4, but i would expect his price to rise by then, so I couldn't afford him

    What do you reckon?

To add to the demba debate, about what affect Cisse will have on Ba. Even before we signed Cisse, Pardew has often touted Ba as the perfect "no. 10". ie playing just off the main striker. Too be honest, i've never really noticed that too much, he always seems pretty high up the pitch to me, but that's what pardew has said.

Everything that I have read about Cisse, seems to point that he is the perfect no. 9. ie playing right up top. This all suggests that it could be the perfect partnership. But it also suggests that Cisse will steal a fair bit of Ba's goals. I'm hoping that our overall output increases (we've scored the least number of goals in the top 6) but even still, i would still expect Ba to score fewer. Saying that, i will still be getting him. He will still be an absolute bargain.

I would, but our nice fixtures (WOL, SUN), clash with cities nice fixtures (BLA, BOL). Need Kun in for those two at least. I'm gonna go for Ba in my team and Cisse in "my wife's team", in time for WOL, if he has started to show some form by then. I think that cisse will come in at a similar price to Ba. I would be very suprised if it was any more.

No reason why he shouldn't excel there too! He's played there for Senegal & West Ham in the same position & done well.

But I'd be wary of 1) Pardew doesn't like to change the winning formula too much 2) Cisse should take a while before he gets acclimatized to EPL, ala Santon. Ba for me, until Cisse is proven.

About point 1). We just lost 5-2, so not so much a winning formula! And our other striking options are Best and Ameobi!! I would still give Cisse a few games before considering him though. Wolves at home in GW26 would be perfect.

I think that the Cisse signing means that it is more likely that Demba will stay. Hopefully he will love playing up front with his (alledged) buddy.

We were always going to sign another striker. First in the summmer, then in this window. We had a deal or done for this window for a guy called Modibo Maiga, pending a medical. That one fell through. So i don't see why buying Cisse, suggests that we will sell Ba.

IMO there are lots of cheap strikers on display during these City's so called "awesome run of fixtures" - BZ, Studge (Gw25-28), Ba, Helguson (or other QPR bargains that Hughes might get)

                  Same with mids.

But I can't find decent options for defenders. Stoke will be back in Europa & are lazy defenders against weaker oppositions. Fulham can only attack or defend at a time (as shown vs newcastle). Enrique has a week taken off him, else I'd keep. No solid options at all.

Am not a big fan of doubling up on defenders but at this time it may well be the best thing. It would mean my keeping Studge and while I remain hopeful, I don't have great confidence in him regaining his goalscoring form. Will probably all be a little clearer by mid next week.

And you're spot on with QPR, may be some very nice options there and Helguson is definitely on my radar.

ack, never mind Huth and Riise mate!
Shotton cheaper, playing OOP. Huth will get yellow card or red card sometime. i just need cheap player to enter the defence, dont need expensive defender to find goals...

Riiise too. even I dont like Fulham at all. They got random CS so it's hard to rotate, dont know when we should play them. I like Swansea, Stoke because they're solid at home and you know when you need them.

I'd be wary of Shotton's nailed-on-ness due to 2 Europa games before GW26. Huth provides you significant goal threat for these 3 home games from Gw24-27 even if he doesn't get CS.

Shotton is my 5th defender so Shotton nailed on or not sometime, that's not serious.
3 home games but Swansea, Sunderland will be tight.
Stoke dont keep CS lately too, so i dont want to invest 5.6M in their defender. WBA without Brunt, Long, Odemwinge still scored, OMG.

I must be the only person wildcarding this week who isn't choosing Aguero alongside RVP.

Thinking of Dzeko instead but, to be honest with you, I see no reason to have 2 expensive strikers.

Also thinking of giving Cahill a go in defence and I am holding on to Vorm (going Vorm and Krul)

The Demba news dashes any prospects of Barfa playing up front anytime soon. I was expecting him to play there in the next few games. That means it is right wing or nothing for him. It also further harms Raylors prospects, as they will both by competing for one position (right wing). Raylors time in defence is well and truly over.

Morning China. Yeah, as a grieving ex-Barfa owner (ditched him in this GW's WC even before Senegal were knocked out) and ex-Raylor owner (ditched him when Santon was given his first start ahead of him) I've been pointing out for a while that when personnel return the team will be reshuffled and the ultimate consequences are bad for the pair... they're now basically as nailed on as any City midfielder.

I am hoping that when tiote comes back (any chance of the ivory coast being knocked out too??), that we will have a strong enough midfield base to allow Barfa to play on the right wing. If he does, then he will still be a good prospect. If that happens, we will have an incredible front 8 if you ask me

        Barfa ,Tiote, Cabeye, Jonas
        Ba Cisse

When I say champions league spot, I say it in the context that chelsea and arsenal are both rubbish at the moment, so the 4th spot is wide open. They have much stronger squads than us, so i'm not expecting us to finish up there. But i think that our first 11 is on a par with, if not better than those two teams. Anybody agree?

As a pessimistic Gooner I think you are pretty close to our current first XI.

              Barfa, Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas
              Ba Cisse

              Song Arteta
              Walcott Ramsey Ox
              RVP

Really crude simplistic comparison: Barfa is better than Walcott IMO. Tiote is level with Song, both class. Cabaye is better than Ramsey. Arteta is better than Jonas. Then it's just RVP + Ox vs Ba + Cisse... I think the former is slightly better. Dead heat.

Its not very long ago that no toon players would get in the arsenal or chelsea team. I would put Krul. Collocini, Tiote, Cabeye and Ba in the Man Utd team as well. How times have changed. I think it shows as much about the drop in standards of the top teams, as it does the improvements in our team.

Yep. Actually I think the top teams haven't dropped that much, I just think the contenders have really stepped up their game (Pardew and Redknapp). Heck, this is controversial but I quite like watching Dalglish's Pool too despite their schizophrenic Prem form. It is an extraordinarily competitive league and in my opinion this is the best Prem season ever. Breathless.

Not sure yet, but I get the feeling that Hughes likes him so that will help his cause.

Warnock didn't play him and he suffered a lot of injuries so he's got a new lease of life under Hughes now and he looks like he's grasping the opportunity.

At £4.4m there's not much to lose by picking him as you can always bench him if the worst comes to the worst.

Taiwo looks good but I think he'll have to get in line behind Buzsacky for set pieces.

Isn't Buzsaky the Faurlin replacement? I was under the impression that's why he wasn't getting in the side as Warnock was playing Derry or Barton as a ball-winner and Faurlin as the deep-lying playmaker. Now that Faurlin's out the playmaker role is Buzsaky's, is that the case?

    Two scenarios:

    A) Have 8 great attacking players, and rotate them according to fixtures and knocks/rest (Silva, Bale, Sess, Demps, Valencia, Dzeko, RVP, Ba)

    B) Have 7+1 cheapo and always bench the cheapo

So with scenario A I will sometimes have big scores sitting on the bench. But don't I also risk that with a decent cheapo? Is it really that bad to have points on the bench as long as the others score as well? Someone say its hard to predict when you have 8 great attackers. But that sounds more of a luxury problem than anything else.

I don't think it's possible to say whether this is a gain or a loss in theory... it all comes down to the difference in the points distributions of your great attacker v. decent cheapie, and the quality of your rotation decision making. If you name the players could have a stab.

          Right, so
          A) is the great front 8 you rotate
          B) Demps downgraded to Siggy, Dzeko upgraded to Aguero. 3-4-3 every week with Siggy on bench
          C) Ba downgraded to Morison, Dzeko upgraded to Aguero. 3-5-2 every week with Morison on bench.

I think in A you'll realistically be benching one of Dempsey and Sess. Either could bite you very big.
In B you'll be benching Siggy, which should cost you less points as I've not seen evidence of explosiveness yet. Upgrading Dzeko to Aguero will get you a few more.
In C you'll be benching Morison, which again should cost you less points as he's not that explosive. Again upgrading Dzeko to Aguero will get you a few more, the difference from B is that you'll play Dempsey and Sess every week so won't miss out on any of their explosive hauls.

C seems to have the least downside - I'd play C.

Although I am not sure about benching a player "costing" me points. I thinks its just like losing out of them - and to be fair, all FPL players that is not in my 11 is points cost or lost out on imo.

I have Aguero and Silva already. Was planning to bring in Richards or Kompany. Will bring in one with WC and then see after that. That's what I think right now, it could change by next week

So Ba looks like starting next GW. But this GW is a great week to have midfielders, with so many of the in-form ones having great fixtures.

I'm WCing for this GW. In which case I'm considering getting ahead of the curve and choosing a WC front 8 of

    Dempsey Bale Silva Sess Valencia
    RVP Dzeko Ba

I play 3-5-2 this week and 3-4-3 next week when Ba returns.

    Thoughts?

Probably Sess, depending on how he does this week - fortress Britannia isn't packed with goals. Can see Chelsea letting in a couple against United.

Nice, only concern is actually this 'form' midfield 5 have murderous fixtures in GW24!

Dempsey (mci) Bale (liv) Silva (FUL) Sess (sto) Valencia (che)

Will need to go through the ticker and work out if this five is sustainable...

I also thought about doing this but had the dilemma of who to bench, so eventually went Dempsey to Murphy and beefed up my backline so I have a solid, consistent but unspectacular player I don't mind benching. If anyone gives me a KLAXON for that I'll be livid :D.

Benching based on injury/suspension is an interesting strategy though; would probably decrease the number of 4 point hits you'd want to take.

    Here's my current team:

    Vorm, Krul
    Walker, Enrique, Evans, Naylor, Simpson
    Bale, Silva, Nani, Sess, Buzsacky
    Rooney, Ade, Morison

Planning on WCing after this GW. Trying to fit RVP in there and have come up with 2 teams. Which one looks better?

    A) with the super-mids
    Krul, Lindegaard
    Kompany, Enrique, Caulker, Simpson, Kelly
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Sessegnon, Dempsey
    RVP, Welbeck, Morison

Leaves me with 0.0m in the bank so would have to do a little adjusting to get Ba in there (maybe Enrique --> someone)

    B) Krul, Lindegaard
    Kompany, Cole, Senderos, Simpson, Caulker
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Sessegnon, Buzsaky
    RVP, Adebayor, Morison

Also leaves me with 0.0m in the bank but plenty of room to get Ba in eventually. Is Cole a good shout?

Team A looks more balance to me.

Stay away from Cashley too expensive, there are many other DFs with better return at lower price.

He is expensive but was leaning to him because he's returned almost as many points as Sturridge at 0.4m less. Still not sure though...

      I'd go with A.

Downgrade Enrique to Evans/Shotton & upgrade Welbeck to Ba. You could then afford Ba to be benched, with your 5 super mids.
