A consistent if unglamorous pick in recent seasons, many Fantasy managers have enjoyed a flirtatious relationship with Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega. With Charles N’Zogbia long the reigning belle of the Wigan ball, and heavy investment in an inconsistent side understandably rare, Rodallega’s liaisons with our squads have tended to be brief and furtive affairs.

Perennially priced around the 6.0 mark in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), a record boasting 272 points over the previous couple of seasons belies the Colombian’s girl-next-door reputation, and with N’Zogbia tying the knot with Aston Villa in August, Rodallega’s opportunity to step out of the shadows seemed finally to have arrived.

Fortune seldom scripts a straightforward ascent for would-be heroes, and a knee injury in September consigned Rodallega to the treatment table in what should have been his hour of triumph. Struggling to regain full fitness, his re-introduction to Premier League society was a stop-start affair. Seemingly burdened by Wigan’s reliance on his goals, a slump in form was exacerbated by uncertainty over his future. While a mooted move to Fulham may fail to come to fruition, a summer move seems a certainty, and, in the meantime, a fully fit and firing Rodallega looks to have his head back in the game and a determination that his last hurrah for Wigan will lead them to Premier League salvation. It’s worth noting that a transfer to Fulham could also prove dividend, though, with the Cottagers’ fixtures and strong home form affording their attacking options plenty chances of points.

Scoring or assisting every one of his side’s goals since the end of gameweek 16, Rodallega’s fine fettle has been the only ray of light in a gloomy winter for a side now happily poised on the shore of a sea of season-ticker blue.Wigan’s reliance on the Colombian hitman has never been more palpable, and Martinez’s apparent decision to let him walk away on a free transfer in the summer appears a judicious sacrifice for the Latics’ Premier League survival prospects.

A tricky away trip to Spurs is followed by a mouth-watering run of games (EVE bol AVL SWA nor WBA) in which Martinez’s men will be keenly aware that they must conquer or perish. Anything but prolific scorers in recent weeks, Wigan certainly have the ethos and the capability to rack up the goals, and with Rodallega back at his best and leading the line, he is more than likely to be involved when, not if, Wigan’s attacks bear fruit. Currently priced at 5.9 in the FPL, Rodallega could offer strong value over the coming Gameweeks, and, with setbacks overcome, the script seems to be set for a heroic final act to the Colombian’s Latics story.

no - I think Liverpool might keep a CS - they are still very tight at the back

Mclean is performing very well at the moment and I see him carrying that form into the Norwich game

I think you will be fine doubling up on United. May as well now, because you won't want to in the coming weeks!

I'm considering the same (got Lindegaard, considering bringing Evans in for Wes Brown as my FT this week).

Cannot decide what to do this week. Fixtures look awesome for my team, but there's too many choices.
Trying to decide on whether to play Sturridge away to Swansea or McClean Home to Norwich...

    Current line up looks like:

    Mignolet
    BAE, J Evans, Senderos
    Silva, Valencia, Bale, Sessegnon, (McClean)
    RVP, Aguero, (Sturridge)

(first defensive sub is Simpson and McClean currently first main sub)

Should I keep the faith with Sturridge OOP or double up on McClean?

    Which to play out of:

thanks everyone. I think it has to be one of fletcher and skrtl and at the moment Skrtl wins it. Fletcher is far better away and Liverpool have tightened up since Bolton. I think I'm backing HBA, as even if benched he'll get at least 30 mins and can easily do some damage against Blackburn. Kelly is basically 6pt maximum...not bad, but the others could do well and Skrtl is not shy about getting forward at corners.

And finally ...I'll be dumping one of Skrtl and BAE in a week or so. Keeping options open at the moment.

        interesting.

I think I'm set on 2 mid-priced strikers around RVP. Too many good ones with form + fixtures. I'll re-consider if Kun gets some goal-scoring form.

Not much chat going on about vermealen. he scored 3 goals in 4 before his injury and since back has had a few efforts every game. at 6.7 he's a good differential and surely will get more points than walters as an example? with sagna back you'd back him to get a couple of clean sheets at least. for the w/c i'll be hving him and kompany with 3 cheapies. plan?

I don't see too many clean sheets for Arsenal, Vermalen would need to continue scoring goals regularly for him to earn his crust for the price tag he comes with.

Vermaelen is his own worst enemy, Arsenal are conceding a shitload of goals from that left flank.

might get him for one of two games, long term you can't rely on his goals or fitness to justify such a high price tag

Any chance for "business" once I click the magic WC button on tuesday night?

Must be a player that will rise twice between tues and saturday (next deadline), and that I personally don`t plan to keep? In that case it`s possible to make 0.1 from each player.

Dempsey maybe? Don`t plan to involve him in my wc, but could possibly buy him for 8.7 on tuesday and sell him for 8.8 come saturday.

Tues->Sat is probably a too short time period for this to work though.

Watch out for GW23 top scorers, those are the most likely to rise in price.

I don't think the short gap makes *that* much of a difference, people still need to make their tranfers. The only ones you'll miss are people who simply don't realise there is a midweek GW, which I guess could be quite a few. Still, catch the GW23 performers, and you should make a few 0.1s.

He is still a solid pick for sure, but for me he just goes missing for spells of games where you expect more from him for the money (like the double gameweek for example!).

My forward line, like many others I'm sure, will eventually read RVP, Aguero and Ba.
