A consistent if unglamorous pick in recent seasons, many Fantasy managers have enjoyed a flirtatious relationship with Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega. With Charles N’Zogbia long the reigning belle of the Wigan ball, and heavy investment in an inconsistent side understandably rare, Rodallega’s liaisons with our squads have tended to be brief and furtive affairs.

Perennially priced around the 6.0 mark in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), a record boasting 272 points over the previous couple of seasons belies the Colombian’s girl-next-door reputation, and with N’Zogbia tying the knot with Aston Villa in August, Rodallega’s opportunity to step out of the shadows seemed finally to have arrived.

Fortune seldom scripts a straightforward ascent for would-be heroes, and a knee injury in September consigned Rodallega to the treatment table in what should have been his hour of triumph. Struggling to regain full fitness, his re-introduction to Premier League society was a stop-start affair. Seemingly burdened by Wigan’s reliance on his goals, a slump in form was exacerbated by uncertainty over his future. While a mooted move to Fulham may fail to come to fruition, a summer move seems a certainty, and, in the meantime, a fully fit and firing Rodallega looks to have his head back in the game and a determination that his last hurrah for Wigan will lead them to Premier League salvation. It’s worth noting that a transfer to Fulham could also prove dividend, though, with the Cottagers’ fixtures and strong home form affording their attacking options plenty chances of points.

Scoring or assisting every one of his side’s goals since the end of gameweek 16, Rodallega’s fine fettle has been the only ray of light in a gloomy winter for a side now happily poised on the shore of a sea of season-ticker blue.Wigan’s reliance on the Colombian hitman has never been more palpable, and Martinez’s apparent decision to let him walk away on a free transfer in the summer appears a judicious sacrifice for the Latics’ Premier League survival prospects.

A tricky away trip to Spurs is followed by a mouth-watering run of games (EVE bol AVL SWA nor WBA) in which Martinez’s men will be keenly aware that they must conquer or perish. Anything but prolific scorers in recent weeks, Wigan certainly have the ethos and the capability to rack up the goals, and with Rodallega back at his best and leading the line, he is more than likely to be involved when, not if, Wigan’s attacks bear fruit. Currently priced at 5.9 in the FPL, Rodallega could offer strong value over the coming Gameweeks, and, with setbacks overcome, the script seems to be set for a heroic final act to the Colombian’s Latics story.

    Midfield Differentials

Oxlade-Chamberlain- After a brilliant performance agianst United, using his pace, skill and agility to trouble the defence all game he's already become the dark horse for Capello's Euro 2012 squad. With Arshavin(£8.4) off form, Ox may keep his place until Ivorian Gervinho(£8.9m) returns from ACON and at £5.9m the Ox could be a steal.
    Next 6- BOL(A),BLA(H),SUN(A),TOT(H),LIV(A),NEW(H).

Ireland- Claiming he's built a strong relationship with Mcleish, Ireland(£5.6) has been under the watchful eye of many Fantasy Managers. But keeping his place hasn't been easy after strong performances from both Clark(£4.7) and Petrov(£5.8) keeping him out the side. But if he starts to play like he did at City and if he peakes form the Mcleish won't think twice about playing him.
    Next 6- QPR(H),NEW(A),MC(H),WIG(A),BLA(A),FUL(H).

Milner- With Yaya Toure(£7.6m) at ACON Milner has had a decent run in the City side including a goal against Liverpool. He looks set to keep his place in the City side for there decent run of fixtures which include Fulham, Blackburn and Bolton coming to the Etihad he could prove a good alternative to David Silva(£10.4m).
    Next 6- EVE(A),FUL(H),AV(A),BLA(H),BOL(H),SWA(A).

Etherington- The pacey Stoke Winger has offered decent returns this season with 82 points so far this season. Playing in all but 3 of Stoke's 22 games this season he could also have penalties under his wing after Walters missed against West Brom. His price £6.5m is slightly cheaper than Walters(£6.7m).
    Next 6- MU(A),SUN(H),FUL(A),SWA(H),NOR(H),CHE(A).

Giggs- With both Nani(£10.3m) and Young(£9.6m) out the Welshman looks set to play the next few games and with Rooney(£12.0m) also a doubt this could hand over most of the set-pieces to the Welshman.
    Next 6- STO(H),CHE(A),LIV(H),NOR(A),TOT(A),WBA(H).

Moses- The holy one has come back again with some favorable fixtures coming up he should hopefully do better this time round than he did earlier this season. With many packing the midfield with the likes of Silva,Bale and Dempsey, Moses could save you the extra money so you can bring Ba in after he returns from ACON.
    Next 6- TOT(A),EVE(H),BOL(A),AV(H),SWA(H),NOR(A).

Sigurdsson- Arriving on loan for the rest of the season and at a price of £5.0m the Icelandic midfilder made a good impression on his debut at home to Arsenal. He has a decent run of fixtures around the corner bar the Chelsea game.
    Next 6- CHE(H),WBA(A),NOR(H),STO(A),WIG(A),MC(H).

    Enjoy!!!

Mark I may be wrong but I think you had more control over the scout picks in recent years. They do seem to have gone downhill badly this season. I don't know if you realise how much influence they have on peoples team selections but looking at my mini leagues and seeing some of the punts in there I think they take the scout picks as gospel each week.

Judge my N'th WC team combo..

    Vorm - Lindy

    Vermaelen - Richards - Simpson - Shotton(?) - S.Kelly

    Silva - Bale - Valencia - Dempsey - Mcclean

    Rvp - Dzeko - Ba(Bench this week)

Had Sess and Morison instead of Mcc and Ba before to avoid wasting future FTs.. correct choice ??

Will Ba start GW24 onwards or should I wait and see how his return goes ??

Mancini is italian, so this free flowing attacking football may water down into a solid efficient unit as we get down to the business end of the season. Might see more of De Jong in the coming weeks.

I don't understand this. Last GW, McClean got 8 and Sess got 14. Two GW's before that, McClean got 10 and Sess got 11. They don't seem to steal eachother's points, so why not 'double up' on them, if they score lots of points each?

Agree with the first bit, but then again anyone in the box could score even if he isn't the biggest threat.

Not sure about the last bit, would say he's pretty nailed on tbh. Him and Williams are their first choice CB pairing.

I would actually have dempsey right now

The man is playing the best football of his career

Walters is a no for me - he is a bad player, he plays for a team that can't play football, and he might not be on pens anymore...

I don't care about the argument for favourable fixtures - I think Stoke will go on a bad run and I hope they do

Stoke fans - you may throw all kinds abuse at me - but this is just something I have got to get out of my chest.

No offense intended - just my view. Harsh I know... but it is my view.

After 10 days of tinkering I am (almost) there.

Here is my Wild Card team (I might just tinker a little bit more in the defence).

    Lindegaard, Vorm
    Kompany, BAE, Taiwo, Santon, Caulker
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon
    RVP, Dzeko, Ba

    - By the time Balotteli is back, Aguero might have found form.
    - I just can't remove BAE before a home game to Wigan, so will keep him a little longer while assessing Shawcross vs Cahill.
    - Might trade Caulker for Kelly

Your team seems great apart from the two punts i.e Taiwo and Dzeko. I just don't think Taiwo's attacking threat can make up for QPR's lack of cleansheets. How about Senderos for Taiwo?

Its basically Valencia+Dzeko or Sigurdsson+Aguero. Three factors has made me go for the former.
        1) Balotelli is out for a while so Dzeko is assured starts (unless Tevez comes back)
        2) I would like to know more about Sigurdsson before I get him
        3) Aguero has been out of form

Mark Hughes + great fixtures + wingback + possible set pieces = fair punt if you ask me

        Good suggestion though...
