A consistent if unglamorous pick in recent seasons, many Fantasy managers have enjoyed a flirtatious relationship with Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega. With Charles N’Zogbia long the reigning belle of the Wigan ball, and heavy investment in an inconsistent side understandably rare, Rodallega’s liaisons with our squads have tended to be brief and furtive affairs.

Perennially priced around the 6.0 mark in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), a record boasting 272 points over the previous couple of seasons belies the Colombian’s girl-next-door reputation, and with N’Zogbia tying the knot with Aston Villa in August, Rodallega’s opportunity to step out of the shadows seemed finally to have arrived.

Fortune seldom scripts a straightforward ascent for would-be heroes, and a knee injury in September consigned Rodallega to the treatment table in what should have been his hour of triumph. Struggling to regain full fitness, his re-introduction to Premier League society was a stop-start affair. Seemingly burdened by Wigan’s reliance on his goals, a slump in form was exacerbated by uncertainty over his future. While a mooted move to Fulham may fail to come to fruition, a summer move seems a certainty, and, in the meantime, a fully fit and firing Rodallega looks to have his head back in the game and a determination that his last hurrah for Wigan will lead them to Premier League salvation. It’s worth noting that a transfer to Fulham could also prove dividend, though, with the Cottagers’ fixtures and strong home form affording their attacking options plenty chances of points.

Scoring or assisting every one of his side’s goals since the end of gameweek 16, Rodallega’s fine fettle has been the only ray of light in a gloomy winter for a side now happily poised on the shore of a sea of season-ticker blue.Wigan’s reliance on the Colombian hitman has never been more palpable, and Martinez’s apparent decision to let him walk away on a free transfer in the summer appears a judicious sacrifice for the Latics’ Premier League survival prospects.

A tricky away trip to Spurs is followed by a mouth-watering run of games (EVE bol AVL SWA nor WBA) in which Martinez’s men will be keenly aware that they must conquer or perish. Anything but prolific scorers in recent weeks, Wigan certainly have the ethos and the capability to rack up the goals, and with Rodallega back at his best and leading the line, he is more than likely to be involved when, not if, Wigan’s attacks bear fruit. Currently priced at 5.9 in the FPL, Rodallega could offer strong value over the coming Gameweeks, and, with setbacks overcome, the script seems to be set for a heroic final act to the Colombian’s Latics story.

Hi Guys new member so please be gentle with me!

Been reading loads of comments about teams being available to view before deadline tomorrow night!

From my experience most teams are not announced until about 30 mins before kick-off, so we will most probably not know the teams for the games at EVE (v MC) & MU (v STC) which kick-off at 8pm.

I normally check with BBC, Is there a site that gives team info earlier. Would really love to know the Man U side before deadline - want to go with Welbeck or Berbatov (could even go with Hernandez if he plays)

It's at least 45 minutes, so you'll know the 8pm kick-off sides before the deadline.

If you want the United line-up I'd check in the match thread on RedCafe, it will be posted on there as soon as it comes out.

45 mins pre kick off minimum. Search for mufc on twitter at 19:15 and youll see the team. BBC is usually about 10 mins behind.

Alternatively come on here - it'll be plastered everywhere.

When you're trying to claw back a heavy deficit to a leader in your mini league, the consensus is usually to try and bring in a few differentials otherwise you will never catch them, especially towards the end of the season. So what tactics would you use when you are leading in 1 mini league, but far behind in 2nd place in another? Concentrate on a particular league and just hope for the best?

On the flip side, you can screw what your rivals are doing and take your own path, eventually they'll start taking risks to stretch their lead and look for differentials themselves... Watch them slide pass you 😉

Good points made by all, although I do believe that when it's the last few games of the season, then it should be time to take some gambles, but only if you aren't concerned with overall ranking, as the gambles may not pay off.

I kinda disagree with Heco there... for me, my minileague is my bragging right... i'd concentrate on both the leagues and try and outguess the leader or the guy/girl in 2nd place.... i.e going b their transfers over a period of time.. for eg, the guy who i'm chasing will more often than not chase last week's points... so i think, he has brought in Dempsey this week... (good thing i had him this week btw).... also if i'm leading by a considerable score i'd rather not care about the guy in 2nd and on my own team... but then, its pretty subjective priortisation

Concentrate on what you think the best picks are every week and totally ignore his team.
Remember, they'll likely make a transfer each week as well so your team could end up completely different to theirs within 3-5 weeks. This gives differentials without the element of 'gambling' on outsiders and simplt hoping they'll do the business.
And the most important thing when trying to catch someone is getting the captain right.
You do this 4/5 weeks in a row and even a 100 point lead can just disappear

More than 2.7 million players in the game. That's a lot of people who haven't looked at their team since they picked it in August and a lot of people would pick Ferguson as their 5th mid to afford the best starting Xl possible. That's my theory.

This is my latest draft of a WC team, please let me know what you think:

    Lindegaard Sorenson
    Walker Kompany A.Ferdinand Simpson Senderos
    McClean Bale Silva Walters Dempsey
    RVP Aguero Ba

I'll bring in Ba next week but wanted to budget for him.

My main concern is not having Sessegnon but struggling to fit him in. Any thoughts appreciated

I also have Lindy/Sorenson. Despite what some on here would have you believe Sorenson did not have a shocking game, he made a mistake. He also made an indredible save. The fact that Begovic played in the cup suggests that Sorenson remains number one for the prem.

Probably right. I just think that out of the potential keeper rotation Sorensen/Begovic, Mignolet/Westwood & De Gea/Lindegaard then Begovic is the most likely to become number 1 again and I would rather avoid the risk.

Good side. Not sure about Sorensen just now. I just took him out. Suppose we will know after the United game whether Begovic is back in or not. And I wouldn't pick any QPR defence just now. Taiwo is a good prospect with free-kick potential and defensively once they settle and start playing together but Anton doesn't offer much at all.

Good team all round other than that.

I'm not keen on the idea of a Spurs defender, their fixtures toughen up significantly after this week.

Huth/Shawcross look good options for GWs 24-27, allows you to do Walters > Sess (who I'd favour out of the two).

Alonso 14 posted the fake Spurs team news like tomorrow in example without VDV and then the site crashed. VDV played and scored plenty of points. Plenty of the lads sold DVD and lost plenty of points and everything. There was too much swearing that time. I was tempted but didn't sell him.
