Gareth Bale is at the double to down an out-of-sorts Wigan, with Luka Modric also chipping in at the Lane. Scott Sinclair produces once again at home for Swansea, Antonio Valencia picks up yet another assist, Man City continue to struggle for goals on their travels and a buoyant Liverpool sweep aside Wolves at Molineux:

Gareth Bale
His seventh double-figure points haul of the season saw Bale forge ahead of David Silva as the top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfielder. It’s an indication of his form this term that only Robin Van Persie has returned more points than the Welshman. Bale’s brace in the 3-1 win over Wigan means he has returned attacking points in every home game but one since gameweek 10; with the 3 bonus points surely in the bag, those who chose to captain him look like grabbing 30 points after last night’s display. Despite a schedule that reads (liv, NEW, ars, MUN), it’d take a bold Fantasy manager to get rid of Bale from here on in.

Luka Modric
The Croatian tends to be one of those players who, despite their undoubted talent, tend to frustrate as a Fantasy force. Last night saw Modric come to the fore and take on a starring role alongside Bale, returning a goal and assist for his Fantasy owners. In total, it was a 10 point haul for Modric, only the second time he’s hit double-figures this season. Closer look at Modric’s figures show that, since the end of gameweek 10, he has comfortably outscored Rafael Van der Vaart by 59 to 44. Granted, the Dutchman’s tendency to pick up injuries hardly helps his cause- he was subbed off just after the half-hour mark with a calf problem, according to Harry Redknapp.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto
An assist in his side’s win propelled the Cameroon international up to second in the defenders chart. Assou-Ekotto has now returned 5 assists compared to Kyle Walker’s 1 this term and continues to offer a far greater threat going forward than his fellow full-back, but with that aforementioned run of fixtures on the horizon, he’ll be relying on more of the same over the next month, with clean sheets looking unlikely.

Scott Sinclair
The winger opened the scoring against his old side, netting for the fourth home game in the last five. Echoing the Fantasy hauls of Jonathan Walters, Sinclair continues to keep his returns purely for home games- this was his seventh goal of the campaign, with every one coming at the Liberty Stadium. Pre-bonus, Sinclair has picked up 74 points in front of his own fans this season, compared to 26 on the road.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Afforded a 67 minute appearance by Brendan Rodgers, the on-loan Icelander once again shone for Swansea. Sigurdsson has now played a significant part in his side’s last two home games, helping the Welsh club pick up four points against Arsenal and Chelsea. His previous home appearance saw him climb off the bench to set up Danny Graham’s winner, while last night he provided the assist for Sinclair’s early goal against the Blues.

Michel Vorm
Neil Taylor’s last-minute own goal proved a huge source of frustration for the Dutchman’s Fantasy owners. Vorm’s early-season heroics has seen him snapped up by 35.6% of Fantasy managers- the same number as Robin Van Persie- but there’s no doubt his returns have been diminishing. While Swansea’s away form has improved as the season has unfolded, their ability to stop opponents from scoring at the Liberty Stadium continues to dry up. The 1-1 draw with Chelsea was the fourth home game in a row that Vorm and co have failed to keep a clean sheet.

Gary Cahill
The former Bolton man is finding it difficult to break into the Chelsea first-team. Despite John Terry being absent with a knee problem, Andre Villas-Boas decided to keep Cahill benched, drafting in Branislav Ivanovic alongside David Luiz and keeping faith with Jose Bosingwa at right-back. While Bosingwa picked up an assist for Chelsea’s late leveller, fellow full-back Ashley Cole received his marching orders for a couple of cautions and will miss Sunday’s game with Man United. If Terry is passed fit, Cahill could once again find himself on the bench, with the possibility of Bosingwa moving left and Ivanovic taking over at right-back.

Jonny Evans
The champions once again delivered a shutout with Evans back in the defence. In his last seven appearances, United have conceded just 2 goals, with the Irishman collecting four clean sheets for his Fantasy owners in that spell, having been replaced at half-time against Wigan due to a calf problem. With Phil Jones still troubled by injury, Evans is becoming established as the key Fantasy option in the United rearguard, with his 4.5 price tag looking somewhat irresistible as a route into a title-chasing defence.

Antonio Valencia
The success story continues – with Nani and Wayne Rooney sidelined, the Ecuadorian delivered yet another assist in United’s 2-0 win. Felled for the spot-kick converted by Dimitar Berbatov, Valencia has now delivered 9 assists in as many games – an incredible run. Further Fantasy investment has followed, with only Gareth Bale commanding more transfers-in so far in the Gameweek, in the midfield bracket.

Sergio Aguero
The Argentine’s form will be a major concern for Roberto Mancini and his Fantasy owners alike. Aguero has delivered patchy scoring runs all season and is once again in a slump, having delivered just a single goal in his last six league outings. The blank at Everton perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise – Aguero has returned just a single assist in his last seven away games in the league. Despite that form, the City remains a popular transfer option, with a fixture list that delivers three attractive home matches (FUL, avl, BLA, BOL) in the next four. Fantasy managers will be looking for immediate returns from Saturday’s encounter with Fulham.

Edin Dzeko
The Bosnian is, of course, the cut-price alternative to Aguero and, with his illustrious strike partner struggling for returns, Dzeko may well convert a few more Fantasy managers before Saturday’s deadline. With Mario Balotelli facing another two league games out through suspension, Dzeko looks assured of starts against Fulham and Villa. His form, in terms of raw Fantasy returns, is far from encouraging however, with just a single goal in his last five appearances. The fact is then, City are clearly misfiring, having drawn blanks in three of their last six. Ironically, six of their seven goals in that spell have come in their two most difficult fixtures – against Liverpool and Spurs. With United grinding out results, City desperately need to turn their obliging short-term fixtures into points – Fantasy managers will hope that the goal output will increase accordingly.

Everton’s Defence
Eyebrows were raised when Tony Hibbert lined up alongside Johnny Heitinga in the Everton defence and yet Hibbert, along with his team-mates, put up a disciplined display to keep City out. David Moyes’ defence have kept three clean sheets in their last eight league games, conceding just seven goals in that spell. While goals have remained hard to come by, the Everton defence has provided a strong platform for the Toffees to earn results. The signing of Nikica Jelavic could signal a upturn in fortunes at the sharp end, while there could still be value in the back-four. With fixtures stiffening, however, in addition to a blank gameweek 26, investment in Everton’s mid-price assets may be placed on ice.

Liverpool’s Defence
The red side of Merseyside also boasts a defence in form; the clean sheet at Molineux was Liverpool’s fifth in the last nine league games. Like Everton, Kenny Dalglish’s side have struggled to offer a consistent goal threat but the defence have stepped up accordingly. Wolves had scored in every home match since gameweek 5 and were on a nine-game scoring streak prior to last night but their visitors, perhaps buoyed by their recent cup exploits, were never in any danger at the back- Jose Reina make just one save on the 90 minutes. With (TOT, mun, blank, ARS) up next, though, they may well be hard-pushed to continue such strong returns in the short-term.

Charlie Adam
The Scot claimed his ninth and tenth assists of the season in the 3-0 win over Wolves, taking him above last season’s tally for Blackpool. Adam’s creativity has blossomed at Anfield – only David Silva has provided more assists. Despite this, in Fantasy terms, Adam has rarely tempted investment, thanks mainly to just 2 goals so far; Adam scored 12 times in his season with the Seasiders. Without spot-kicks in his locker, his goal threat has reduced considerably and Adam’s starting role and pitch time are also in doubt. With Steven Gerrard back in the frame, Adam’s is not assured of a start, despite his form, and he has completed 90 minutes just once in his last six league outings.

Andy Carroll
The forward grabbed his first league goal since gameweek 10 last night. Carroll also provided an assist in the previous gameweek’s defeat at Bolton, producing attacking returns in back-to-back fixtures for the first time this season. Just as Carroll is starting to adapt to a role as a lone forward and beginning to pick up Fantasy points, Liverpool welcome back Luis Suarez for the home clash with Tottenham this weekend. There’s little doubt their goal threat seems to be improving, though; the 3-0 win meant Kenny Dalglish’s side scored more than 2 league goals on the road for the first time this season.

Fiso is usually pretty accurate and it's logical really. Sturridge has been very off-form and FISO is pretty good on drops, so at the rate he's going I'd expect him to drop tonight or tomorrow night. He shouldn't have risen the other week really so I'm not losing anything by keeping him.

Ba had loads of transfers out and is currently sat on a big minus so it would surely take a lot of transfer in to make him go back up. However seeing as Ba isn't going to make the game tonight, it's going to be a bit of gamble picking him for this weekend regardless of prices. He hasn't had the best time at ACON, but his confidence at the Sports Direct Arena (lol) will still be skyhigh, so I think he's worth a punt. A punt it remains though.

Was waiting to see if Bale was in the starting XI and when I tried to log in to make him captain, I couldn't log in on my phone or computer. Afternoon all.

I really dropped a clanger with my WC team – took out Bale and Valencia for Mata and Gerrard 🙁 and have now gone from 2151 overall position in GW19 to 11,760. Ok I know there are tonight’s games to come, but I’m still dropping like a stone.

My planned change for this week is Best to Ba. But I also now want to do Mata to Bale and Walters to Valencia. Should I

    a) get it over and done with and just take an 8 point hit now to stop the rot, or
    b) do one of them plus the Ba change for –4 this week and the other next week?
    c) spread them out over three GWs but that stops me doing any other planned changes (such as Dempsey for Gerrard from GWs25-28) and doesn’t give me any leeway in case of injuries etc.
    d) leave as is and pray, Mata and Walters have better fixtures, but comparatively poor form.

Team linked. Anyone got any advice, pretty please? (Apart from telling me I’m a muppet)!!

      Ouch. Sorry about that Catmac.

I suppose this is all about how you rate the fixtures Spurs and United have. They are pretty ugly really, but I for one would still not want to be without Gareth Bale right now. Close to double figures at the Etihad last time out and all. My suggestion is that you go ahead and do Mata->Bale now and hold fire on Walters->Valencia. Walters have massive fixtures and I don't think United will rout Chelsea away.

Regarding the Best->Ba transfer I'd hold out for some more news at least, we might even see Best starting against Villa and if that's the case I'd be inclined to keep him. If you don't find out much I'd probably take the -4 for super Demba Ba.

Walters has a decent ficture this week, so if I were you, I'd keep him and do the other two. A 4pt hit more likely to pay off than an 8 pt one as well.

I know your feeling though. I seem to have been one or two transfers "behind" since playing my w/c too. Hence a 4 pt hit last week to get Sess and Valencia, already got Silva in this week, and tempted by Ba too.

Well that is a sticky mess. Plus you have Jose Enrique which lets be honest needs sorting too.

I would suggest that Best to Ba is not necessary immediately as he is a bit of a gamble anyway. Its best to get your team back on the straight and narrow first.

So I would just do Enrique to someone. And then take a 4 point hit next week. Your transfers in midfield dont help in anyway this week. Walters probably has the best chance of points. Unless you truly believe Bale is gonna smash Liverpool.

Next week I'm playing Santon, Shawcross, Evans - not the best fixture but Chelsea arent scoring a great deal.
Admittedly GW25 is a bit chancey. I'll play Kelly, Shawcross and hope for a 0-0 draw, and probably Evans, particularly if Lindegaard is in goal.
After that most weeks are pretty good.
I dont really want to change my defenders until GW28/29 when this tricky period for the main clubs is over.

THe other bonus would be by swapping Enrique you could play 4 at the back some weeks, thus making it not as urgent to switch your mids around.

My panic punt transfer(after all the unavailable messages at 19:20) yesterday since I couldn´t afford Berbatov, but I got to say that it was fantastic to watch the game knowing he was in my team, absolute pendulum.

That said at least 1 bonus point he should have. 😉

Chelsea are in a worse state than I thought.

Take this comment from AVB about Drogba

'Torres and Didier compete for the striking places, and we know Drogba's significance to this team, but when he returns he will bring extra competition for both Torres and Lukaku, but it will be a big plus for the team.'

So the team is relying on an unproven youngster, a terminally out of form striker with no confidence and Drogba. Looks like Drogba is straight into the team in that case when he returns from ACON, no competition at all.....looks the only bet for attacking returns from Chelsea over the coming months.

His decision to leave Cahill out is interesting...because of the solidity of Ivanovich and Luiz...well that worked well didn't it. I can see many more excuses over the coming weeks for leaving poor Gary out.

I'd be seriously worried about Chelsea's lack of ambition if I was a fan. Luckily I'm not and have a plum FA Cup tie with Liverpool to look forward to on the back of a draw with Palace last night.

I won't doubt this, Mourinho left because he didn't have control the things that the manager should decide on like transfers. Which confuses me because I don't understand a club bringing in a manager when you won't let him do his job and then sack him.

But I don't think they will let him rebuild. He seems to have so little say in transfers. Abramovich and the board call the shots. AVB looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

If they had real ambition they would have cut their losses on Torres by now and invested in a proper decent striker.

They also would be investing in their youth more. In comparison to say Man Utd, even lower teams like Watford, West Ham etc it is shameful how few members of their youth team make it to the first team. An ambitious club would address that.

I watched Everton & Spurs last night so I don't know how Luiz coped, but conceding 1 goal away to Swansa - a wondergoal - doesn't really make it obvious that Cahill should've played instead of Luiz to me.

The attacking department will have to take all the blame for that result, every teams concede goal like that from time to time.

        That's a good point.

But the point remanins that Cahill will come up against many more excuses in the coming weeks. Its fairly obvious that AVB doesn't trust him and with tough fixtures coming up I can't see to many starts. If AVB can't trust him against Swansea how can he trust him against Man Utd?

The situation at Chelsea is a shame from a fantasy point of view. They were usually such a reliable source of defensive and attacking options. This is the first season where I've rarely had a Chelsea player in my team. I've had Bos and Sturridge for periods, but have pretty much always had a man utd, arsenal, spurs or man city player in my team.

I know, I've been badly burned by Chelsea players this season. Sturridge did very well for me a period but I've been fooled by that shiny blue shirt so often this season and it's only been heartbreak.

Bosingwa, Mata twice, Torres twice. Disaster.

What state did you think we were in then exactly? Did you think we had another striker we were hiding somewhere (well, we do have Sturridge I suppose...)? And what do you expect a manager to say: 'All my options are out of form, inexperienced or unavailable'?

There are plenty of criticisms that can be made of Chelsea at the moment but I think 'lack of ambition' is unfair considering the young players and manager we've brought in. Everybody seems to want us to sack our manager, presumably so they can criticise us for sacking our manager.

As a Chelsea fan I'm looking forward to our own FA Cup and Champions League ties (something that can't be said for the joint leaders in the league) and, although improvement is obviously needed, I'm fairly confident given that we've been in this situation at this time pretty much every year for the last 5. Look where we've finished.

    Hallo all. Current defence:

    Richards – Skrtel – BAE – Santon – Caulker

Don’t know what to do with Skrtel and BAE.

I’m hesitant to ship them out as they've done really well for me (and as I may well want them back in again), but they’ve both got a nasty run of fixtures.

Should I get rid of one of them? Both of them? Are there any clear-cut replacements? I have 2FTs and .4 in bank.

    Thanks!

as I triple up on newcastle for the week ( santon, ben arfa, ba)

    and Gerrard>Ox
for a one week punt vs Blackburn at the Emirates before bringing in Silva next week for potentially ben arfa (tomorrows fixture could change my mind) and retiring Ox to the bench to observe whether Wenger plays him at all once Gervinhos back, if not an easy transfer out.(I got rid of him on my wc a couple of weeks back, he hasnt really done much I havent been punished for it)

Is this a plausible differential given the difficult top 5 fixtures or am I out of my mind?

Well Adebayor is officially past his sell by date. Just give the ball to Bale.

Also have Spurs signed Saha so they can compare his inferior hamstrings to VDV? Or is it just to keep Ledley company on training days?

Adebayor was taken off with a hamstring problem last night but you're right he's not doing the bizz so he's going from my team!

    Simpson Huth Kompany (BAE) (Kelly)

    Silva Bale Valencia Walters (Sess)

Have I got the right starting 11? Also have two free trannies with 0.0 in bank. Any thoughts on improving the team? Thanks
